  • may she rest in peace

  • She deserved more. Bastards.

  • This should've tooken place SO MUCH MORE in her life than it did cuz the woman deserved recognition like this SO MUCH MORE then she got while she was still hear to get it I swear.

Everyone seemed more interested in bringing her down instead of acknowledging & appreciating how unbelievably GIFTED this humble sweetheart was & how much she contributed & changed the world of entertaiment as we know it to be today during the very short time we had her among us until she was gone, its a sad shame.

  • Pretty humble but did she pay her hotel bill the next day?

  • this is great, thank you

  • oh my god, she's so sweet it literally breaks my heart. SO HUMBLE and thankful, unlike alot of famous people now. She is the definition of a STAR. I don't think she ever realized just how much she impacted music and cinema. Gorgeous woman, throughout her whole life, big or small, young or older. She worked so hard, and didn't get the praise she deserved. Unexplainably remarkable <3

  • The World's Greatest Entertainer...enough said :-)

    Davidx

  • How pretty and healthy she looks, she truly does look happy, but having done that when getting awards, not speeches, but eyes downcast or that, you like me? you really like me! kind of action, so much, seems to be the real Judy

  • Nothing's changed! She's SITLL number ONE!! Long live Judy Garland!

  • @Herestome2 TRUDAT!!!

  • Did you attend any?

  • SEE SHE WAS TRULY A STAR AND A GENUINE PERSON!...SADLY WHERE ARE THEY NOW IN LA LA LAND!

  • She worked her butt off for that little piece of tin and yet was still so humble and sincerely nice about it. True class.

  • imagine how she would be recieved at OUR tony awards!

  • it is nice to see her so happy

  • words cannot express how wonderful she was and that face. it is amazing that liza has won the exact same award last year i was able to see that show judy was and is an angel she was not crazy except for what people put her through but there was nothing like her i love liza as much

  • This is the Judy I knew and loved. I remember the Palace appearances so well.

  • wow do u hav any other old tony award footage?

  • great footage thanks!

  • Love your rare video's, some I had not seen before! thanks for sharing them!

  • What a shame that the film community never honored Judy with a competitive Oscar.

  • judy was a gentile goddess

  • She looks so much like Liza here! This is the first time i've seen anything like this. Thanks for sharing.

  • wow, she is radiant. :D

  • She's gracious no matter how many takes she had to endure.

  • Wow! This is rare! Where did you find it? I've never seen it before and I know there is very little known footage of early Tony broadcasts, both audio and video.

This was the turning point in Judy's career after being dropped by MGM. Great video.

  • God, she was gorgeous.

  • She looks so incredibly pretty here.

  • also...

what a bizarre set-up...they're making her re-do the "thank you" speech. the director guy is a jerk at 8 seconds...

  • @Samarastube I didn't catch that at first, but my god, you're right. What an ass! Talk about ruining her moment.

  • she glows

  • Thankyou so much for posting this. I've never seen Judy recieving any of her awards till now. Its funny how they get her to do a few takes of her acceptance speech. Same with Marilyn when she won the Photoplay award.

  • It is great for Judy's admirers to see her given a "Tony" award because she was certainly denied other awards that she deserved, namely the Academy "Oscar" and the "Emmy". (I know that she was given a special mini "juvenile" "Oscar in 1939)

  • OMG thanks so much for this.

  • she is not heavy she is a woman but this is hands down the best youtube bit i have ever seen especially since her daughter liza minnelli won the same award last june that's on youtube too. i love them both and she was unsure in these settings cause in mgm days everything was orchestrated and she never felt confidence about herself but never tragic....

  • Simply enchanting - Imagine spending a day with her - just one day of your life - what a thrill it would have been.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! And I wonder: how did you get this footage??!!?? Unbelievable!!

  • I'm planning making trip #2 to Grand Rapids, MN this Junefor the annual JG Fest. Last I went in 1997 she would have been 75 yrs old. Sid, Lorna &Joe were there & I had the pleasure of actually talking to Sid over some drinks & my pic taken with him. He signed My 1962"Look" Mag. It was a huge spread about Judy. All the Lufts signed it. I'd like to have Liza sign it too since Judy and her family were in it.. Sid was gracious that nite he & I talked for a while over Drinks. The Festival is fun

  • @NFitalianGuy I agree, there really isn't that kind of talent out there, but that has more to do with the money and makers of talent. It even happens in tennis. Think of it: NO ONE used to quit a tennis match unless they HAD to. NOW, if they just think they're going to lose, they quit. (FRANCESCA SCHIAVONNE!!! LOVE THAT ITALIAN WOMAN!!!) I always loved WOO, and that's where I first heard her. It was love at first song. There are great singers, but not that many great performers/people.

  • This is as rare as it gets I'd say, thank you for sharing this beautiful clip. Each time

I watch I play it several times; she is so genuine and gracious ("Helen, darling"). Let's face it, she didn't receive nearly as many awards as she deserved, so to see her accepting this one is a remarkable thrill.

  • LOOK at that face! How can anyone not love that face! She was so genuine and appreciative. She was a very humble girl! Today there is no one like her around. They walk up pick their award and have the cockiness and feeling of "entitlement" Judy was a true pro! Thank you so much for finding yet another Gem! This is for Judy if she can hear us "Thank you Miss Garland for granting us the priviledge of experiencing your Vast Ocean of talent. You have no Idea what you have given the entire world" xo

  • @NFitalianGuy Great post. I loved your comments about Judy Garland.

She was such a fixture in my childhood, all of ours I suppose, as Dorothy in WOO, that it's hard not to take her talent for granted. It is granted. It is a given. She may be the single greatest performer we have ever seen in this country.

I urge you to see Sade live. COMPLETELY different, and I was no big fan until I saw her live. She is like Judy in her professionalism. And a great performer.

    Best to you.

  • @MrMahlerman I am very flattered you liked my comment. Judy was one of the very few Living Legends. Today there isn't really any living Legends except maybe for Liza and maybe one or two others. That title alone sets Judy Garland a part from even the most exceptional performers. Once I heard a commentator once call Lindsay Lohan a legend! I almost spewed coffee out of my nost laughing. Judy was Human and had her problems but most were inflicted on her thru the ppl that worked her to death.

  • @MrMahlerman I'm 42 & was just over a yr old. when she passed. My brother used to make fun because I listened to her and it wasn't until the early 80's that she was huge in the gay culture. I've been a huge fan since I was 7 & I seen "That's Entertainment" on TV in 1976 when ppl rarely had more than 1 TV, no cable. my folksgave my bro & I, a 13'' B&W TV our bed room. Fred Astaire intro'd Liza then I seen Judy & that unique voice that got me hooked. I was 15 when i heard more of her albums.

  • @NFitalianGuy I'm 48 and can't remember when she wasn't part of my childhood. Not happy childhood, so Judy helped me see there IS good in this world. GREATNESS.

I also think she was an amazing actress, and Fred Astaire would tell you, she was the best dancer he ever worked with. Just a total natural.

    She was also HYSTERICALLY funny.

Her love of performing was based on her love of people.

    Saint Judy? Maybe...

  • @NFitalianGuy NO, to every extent there was a gay culture during Judy's time, she was always a part of it. Judy's Palace performances were highly attended by gay men. For evidence, check out her interview on Youtube with Mr. Kup.

  • @NFitalianGuy I have to HEAVILY disagree when you say no one is as humble when accepting an award. When Lady Gaga received her first onscreen grammy in 2011, you can so tell her humble ness and how shocked she was to get it. She is not cocky at all. Im not comparing the two, because Judy is definitely one of a kind. But i think you should rethink what you say because as time passes no one can replace her or be like her but there are people who share her humbleness. Saying whats right. Period

  • Oh Michele...this is just wonderful...I have never seen this rare gem before...and I love it very much...I can never get enough of seeing things like this of Judy...I have a TON of catching up to do with your channel...and with you...thanks for sharing this...John :)

  • Absolutely enchanting. What a pleasure to see Judy accept a great honor. Thank you so much!

And to below --What do you mean "she was still so beautiful at this point" ? Goodness, the lady was 30 years old here, "at this point" (?). Have you seen how gorgeous she was in her 40's on The Judy Garland Show, or later on Hollywood Palace, or Sammy Davis, or at her 67 Palace show, or on What's My Line, or on Merv Griffen, or Johnny Carson in 68? Yes, she was "still" quite beautiful her entire life.

  • What a rare find! Interesting that she was still so beautiful at this point...heavy, but lovely. So gracious and genuinely humble. Greatest talent in the world. Nobody touches her.

  • wow...amazing!

  • This is great!!! It reminds me of Vicki Lester's Oscar acceptance speech in A Star Is Born.

  • nice video...great to see....5 stars!

  • I think this meant so much to JUDY because it was her only Tony win. As all of you know, she wanted "Mame" so much but it was just not feasible at the time. Thanks again for the post Darling!!!!

  • This is a real treat. Where has it been all these years? Thanks for sharing it with us all.

  • Just to be able to see this footage is worth it all! Thank you so much for this post. I'm indebted to you...really!

  • wow- New footage on Judy- Ive never seen this- what a treat and Judy looks so beautiful and happy - thanks so much for posting this

  • I'm stunned...She looks absolutely beyond beautiful here...I honestly can't get over it...She is gorgeous...Wow...Wow...0:08...That smile...GOD!!! LOL...Thank You for this amazing video--

  • this is awesome!!Thanks so much! Xx

  • you are an amazing fan! thank you so much for sharing this.

  • I completely agree with you Michele, this was the "real" Judy. Great to see and you do have the best Judy Garland vids on YouTube.

  • radiant!

  • I've never seen this clip either!!! But she was as beautiful as ever. Although she received much applause and acclaim over her life, she deserved every award she won. Thanks so for posting this gem.

  • WOW! I never knew such footage existed. I have never once heard of any footage of this event. THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing with the world :)

  • Beautiful! Hey, if this was recorded in March 1952 then she was pregnant with Lorna. Her face seems to glow here, don't you think?

    Thanks so much,

    Lisa

  • Amazing footage! She appears so vulnerable. Your Judy Garland videos are the best on youtube. Such rare footage. Thanks so much for sharing!

  • @fortiesnutcase I think the reason she appears vulnerable is because at 0:08 you can hear the guy behind the camera rudely telling her to "tell him about the award" and yelling at her to show it to him. She couldn't even have her moment without someone controlling her reaction. Aside from that, it is nice to see.

  • wow!!! thankyou SO much for sharing! I don't know anybody else on youtube who posts such good Judy stuf as you!

  • O. M. G. Judy was sooo beautiful that night <3 Aww, I can watch this over and over again, thank you so much for sharing this with us :D

  • Judy looks gorgeous in this video and very grateful. She was so modest to receive the award and the nicest and sweetest. I see her vulnerability here as well. I feel like I want to give her a hug and tell her how much I love her as the wonderful gift to the world that she was.

  • I've never seen the cilp before. Rare indeed. Thanks.

  • Miss Garland looked extremely healthy here. This is so nice to see . . . Thanks for this rare gem!!

  • Helen Hayes and Judy!!! But it does bring a tear to ones eye when even at THIS point she`s so fragile.... even by then she was "touched" and on her dark journey on a yellow brick road....

  • WOW! I have never seen much footage of Judy between 1950 - 1953, this is awesome to see!

  • I love her dress, and the way she has her hair.

  • Wow, I never thought I would see this speech. Judging by this video it seems Judy didn't receive at the actual Tony Awards otherwise she wouldn't of had to do the speech a few times.

  • she looks so beautiful
