Thanks for the suggestion but as it turns out that's how the flasher operates. It simply shunts power back to ground which normally would be the car frame and essentially becomes a heating element for the small amount of time it's off, the heat expands the bimetallic strip, it expands and cuts the connection thereby resetting the cycle.
im geting a bell and i want it to do march time code . what can i do to make it do march time because i dont have a panel and the bell is 24volts. is there something small i can get at radio shack to do that?
The problem with that is the current required by a bell/horn - flashers are meant to flash low current light bulbs and tend to behave unpredictably under high current load. You can try - worst case scenario is it won't work or it will fry the flasher.
Well, as it's a science project meant to demonstrate the basics of electricity in an elementary school science fair, I wasn't too concerned about its ability to actually warn of a fire.
if your not alowed to use ac power from an outlet you could use a transformer and that gets its power from the battery and gives the alarm a boost. and where did you get the flasher switch?
No need for a boost - the system is designed to run on 12 volts DC except for the horn; however, it runs on 12 volts without a problem. The flasher is a simple automotive flasher available at any auto parts store.
HEy Um do u have an extra b key To reset This Pull station and i just got a new simplex Pull station but i dont have the key could like make me one or somthin
Your best bet is to check eBay; sometimes there are keys, but more often there are old simplex pulls with keys that usually go for less than 10 bucks.
actuallyi phrased my question bad...sorry...my question was...how do i connect a momentery switch to my homemade panel to create a silence switch for the bell? my latching circuit is a relay.
I have a Mirtone pull station which operates between 15.2 and 19.95 VDC and I also have a Simplex 4903-9237 which operates between 23.5 and 29 VDC how can I get a power source which accomadates both units without a control panel and also how would I wire the 2 together
That was the idea - the car flasher is the best low-budget subsititute for a march-time circuit I could think of; however, I have no control over the frequency.
Simple - only the horn ran on 24 volts - i would have not been able to easily get 24V lamps in town and I've never seen a 24V electromechanical flasher, and the batteries are 20 bucks each - I was trying to keep the cost down.
how could i connect a cheap battery pwoerd smoke alarm to mine? it doesnt have a panel just direct to 2 buzzers, however i wanna connect it to a smoke alarm so wen its pulled those 2 buzzers go off and the smoke alarm goes, and wen theres fire underr the smoke alarm all 3 sound? is that possible?
Yes, in fact; during school they will take it outside (weather permitting), or into a classroom and set it off for the kids (the science projects will be on display all week in the school for the kids to see) The fair is Thursday night (3/22)and they will just make an announcement every now and then an set it off. The rest of the time the horn will be silenced.
how do you make it

can you show me how you hooked up the pull station
Firealarm101 4 years ago
The video clearly shows all of the wiring. The pull station is nothing more than a switch.

how do i connect a momentery switch to my homemade control panel?
firealarmfreak 4 years ago
A momentary switch connects just like a normally closed or open switch, but you need a latching circuit in order for the alarm to stay activated.
brettman273 4 years ago
ya i have a latching circuit, im using a relay

I dont know how to make a latching circuit on my fire alarm panel. So when I reset my callpont the alarm stops. HELP what do I do???
