I'm sorry Jeremy, but I have to disagree. I'm an Underworld fan myself and I thought the movie was pretty good. One thing that disappointed me however was the lack of story. But the story that was given is still rather good, the effects are decent, the acting was great, and the movie delivers on the action and gore. I could understand why some Underworld fans might be disappointed, but the "dogshit" award is way too harsh for a movie like this.

i saw it, i liked it. i did not read anything about the movie before i went it, had no expectations, but it surprised me. i didn't like where they finished the movie, thought it had a good few minutes left, but still, not dogshit. i'd give it maybe 6/10
I don't entirely agree with this review. I liked the movie. Of course the 'Boss battle' was dumb, for me that thing never happened. The problem I have is the back story. It would have been great to see a movie of those things happening. It would have felt different than all the other movies of the franchise. Had they made U:A after this back story movie it would have bean an average movie of the series.
Also, am I the only one who thinks the elder vampires kept this from happening, the purge?

Underworld awakening to me is like the Breaking Dawn of the underworld franchise. It's the fourth installment that has almost nothing to do with the previous three and is just plain pointless.
The first underworld movie. Really cool story, really cool effects, really cool vamps and were wolves, and hybrids of both. After that it's underworld rise of the lycans. It was awesome to see them go against the vamps and revolt and the effects and style was great.The ending lost me though. Then it's evolution. Just cause it was really cool to watch but the story was kinda dumb.

It never butcher lore, it stepped aside to tell a new, crucial, story. Onto the werewolf of giant assery. I'm a huge gamer and I never thought of it as a video game boss, I thought of it has the leader of the raid on their coven coming it to secure the child. It kinda happens. I love the Underworld franchise and I also loved Awakening. It may have a different story direction but where was it supposed to go? The first movie is my favourite. I think the big problem in this one was the lack of the Michael character. 1 minute of a stunt double with a CGI face doesn't count. Selene was totally inhuman and virtually unstoppable. She was lacking all the vulnerability from the previous installments. The Kid wasn't enough to make us feel for her. The story should have intercut between her and Eve and Michael in the lab so we could learn more about the villains. This is a new storyline setup I think.

My favorite Underworld is Rise of the Lycans. It was just cool to go from thinking of Lucien as the bad guy in the first movie, to the good guy in a prequel. It was fun to see why and how he got to where he was in the first movie. And after Rise of the Lycans, I actually felt really bad for Lucien.

DON'T GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It is honest to god dogshit. I saw it in 3d and they didn't utilize it whatsoever. The acting is poor. The plot is underwhelming. And the action is so over done its almost cartoonish. Plus the main character is difficult to relate to. First of this series I've ever watched and thought it was awful start to finish. Also there is a twist but it is so ridiculously easy to see coming its not even worth calling a twist.

@IamPixelism He's in it, but only in a limited capacity. Scott Speedman did not reprise his role so the only shot's of Michael are from archived footage and a stand-in. However, Producer Richard Wright has stated that Michael will return and will be played by Scott Speedman should a fifth Underworld ever be made.

After watching this review, I was expecting the movie to be horrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. It might just be because my expectations were so low, but I really enjoyed it. I've even seen it twice. I'm a HUGE Underworld fan, and I don't think this was too irrelevant. I wasn't sure where they could have gone after the second one, and I enjoyed where this one went. The story was decently interesting and I enjoyed the action scenes. PLUS, the effects were a zillion times better than the 3rd

My favorite vampire movie is the "Blade" trilogy. The "Blade" movies a far more better than the "Underworld" movies. The "Underworld" movies and simply the "Resident Evil" movies but with different monsters and a different heroine. Besides that, they are essentially the EXACT SAME PIECES OF CRAP.
I saw the movie today then watched your review... You do realise the reason the film was marketed as having humans as the enemies was because the realisation that they were actually Lycans was a plot-twist? The audience isn't aware of the fact that the main antagonist of the film is a Lycan until after the half-way point... Put a spoiler warning next time because I really think you just ruined one of the most important plot-points of the movie.

i really want to know why the hell Len Wiseman wasn't allowed to direct this one. I know that the prequel/3rd one wasn't done by Wiseman but at least that guy knew not to fuck with the original storylines. i haven't even seen the movie yet and i'm really glad i waited for reviews before wasting my money seeing it in theaters.

Also, yes the description is misleading because the ending with the humans is a twist. I don't want to spoil it. The one for the first movie was worse

The first movie is my favourite. I think the big problem in this one was the lack of the Michael character. 1 minute of a stunt double with a CGI face doesn't count. Selene was totally inhuman and virtually unstoppable. She was lacking all the vulnerability from the previous installments. The Kid wasn't enough to make us feel for her. The story should have intercut between her and Eve and Michael in the lab so we could learn more about the villains. This is a new storyline setup I think.

Well that is disappointing. I was hoping it would continue were it left off. I will probably rent it if I am bored. Seems like Vampires and Werewolves are either going 100% action/effects or romance. I like the first Underworld because it was the movie that started it all but it is not my favorite creature flick. I still enjoy Ginger Snaps the best even if the movie is low budget, and Interview with the Vampire.

343 is a subsidiary (if I remember) of Bungie and is making Halo 4.

My favorite Underworld is Rise of the Lycans. It was just cool to go from thinking of Lucien as the bad guy in the first movie, to the good guy in a prequel. It was fun to see why and how he got to where he was in the first movie. And after Rise of the Lycans, I actually felt really bad for Lucien.

DON'T GO SEE THIS MOVIE. It is honest to god dogshit. I saw it in 3d and they didn't utilize it whatsoever. The acting is poor. The plot is underwhelming. And the action is so over done its almost cartoonish. Plus the main character is difficult to relate to. First of this series I've ever watched and thought it was awful start to finish. Also there is a twist but it is so ridiculously easy to see coming its not even worth calling a twist.

@IamPixelism He's in it, but only in a limited capacity. Scott Speedman did not reprise his role so the only shot's of Michael are from archived footage and a stand-in. However, Producer Richard Wright has stated that Michael will return and will be played by Scott Speedman should a fifth Underworld ever be made.

Saw the movie today, it sucked. To much CGI, to much over the top fight scenes with pointless slow motion, crap acting & crap dialog. Why don't movie directors & producers take pride into their work & stop producing films to make a quick buck, it's really sad how these so called directors get praised for their, lack of effort, work. After watching this review, I was expecting the movie to be horrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. It might just be because my expectations were so low, but I really enjoyed it. I've even seen it twice. I'm a HUGE Underworld fan, and I don't think this was too irrelevant. I wasn't sure where they could have gone after the second one, and I enjoyed where this one went. The story was decently interesting and I enjoyed the action scenes. PLUS, the effects were a zillion times better than the 3rd

My favorite vampire movie is the "Blade" trilogy. The "Blade" movies a far more better than the "Underworld" movies. The "Underworld" movies and simply the "Resident Evil" movies but with different monsters and a different heroine. Besides that, they are essentially the EXACT SAME PIECES OF CRAP.

I saw the movie today then watched your review... You do realise the reason the film was marketed as having humans as the enemies was because the realisation that they were actually Lycans was a plot-twist? The audience isn't aware of the fact that the main antagonist of the film is a Lycan until after the half-way point... Put a spoiler warning next time because I really think you just ruined one of the most important plot-points of the movie.
