  • The House that Ruth built-Atlantic Records thanks to Ms Ruth Brown in the 1950s. Rest In Peace.

  • This lady was the Queen of Rock and Roll and this song is her signature song and one of her biggest hits and easily was a million seller. Not surprising to me- her two biggest pop hits are her most unfamiliar hits to her true fans. The songs 'Lucky Lips' and 'This Little Girl's Gone Rockin' can't compare to this song and others like "Oh What A Dream;,'5-10-15Hours, 'Teardrops From My Eyes', and "Mambo Baby' and 'Wild,Wild,Young Men'. These were the true hits of Ruth Brown.

  • ROCK'N ROLL WILL NEVER DIE

  • thumbs up if you're here because you love ruth brown and that's it !

  • @KeethReetchard Thats right!!! I love Ruth Brown--

  • True story: I made Ruth Brown real mad when, at the Cinegrill in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in the 90s, I presented an album for her to sign, one that Ruth had never seen, called "The Atlantic Records-Phil Spector Sessions," which included the original tracks produced by Phil on various artists, including Ruth Brown and LaVern Baker, who autographed the album a few months before; Ruth, who is always warm, went ice cold seeing LaVern's name...and refused to autograph the album.

  • @KojiRecords Ironically, Phil Spector was at the same show, my approaching him first; Phil, too, had never seen this album and was livid as his friends crowded around to see this album Phil was blowing up about; Phil, likewise, declined to autograph the album on the grounds his signature could be used on "a legal document." I met both Ruth and Phil in later years, happy to meet both under better circumstances! When LaVern passed, Ruth included her in a tribute rendition of "Tears in Heaven."

  • OHH! I love this song! I haven't heard this song in a long time now.

  • @beyoncetyratina me too omg!!

  • ahh, the days where you actually HAD to have talent to get on tv :)

wish i lived in those days.

  • @nothingbutnickole

I wish you'd had the opportunity to live in those days as well, because things sure were different and the music was the very best! We COULD have it again if the ones with talent would just only go ahead and write and sing better musinc with meaning to it instead of all the profanity and other side-show stuff that's called music and entertainment today.

  • Wow.

  • amazing talent.

  • Buscando musica de Ruth Brown... Me mató la potencia que tiene esta mujer.

  • That little squealy high pitch note in every verse is simply amazing, so full of vibe and soul.

  • shes one of my favorites she had a great career she had to stop for a whille us in the mid being of her career cus she had a baby with clyed micfater of the drifeters on of alntic,s bigest sellers. and ray chreals could not go on with the tour cus she was in it with him but she coudn,t go on with the tuor cus she was having a baby and that compromised the tour Jerry and Amet didn,t know why she cancelled until latter.

  • Ruth Brown meand really brave, really black really blue, choose whatever you want but all these mean rhythm and blues

  • Ruth Brown means really black , really blue, really brave choose whatever you want but all these mean Rhtym & Blues

  • yeah cool song wohoooo...... :) ;)

  • WOW!! Amazing!

  • yea I agree with opium 177 old time music is great!! I love it

  • The album version I have of this is much slower. Is there an alternative version more the pace of this live performance? Or is it just how she performed the song live? Because I prefer it with the energy featured in this video.

  • old music is the good music

  • I just stumbled across this song - a happy accident I think. This actually got me dancing in my chair. I hope there's a revival of this type of early, up-tempo and upbeat R&B, or at least a further revival built on the success of contemporary artists such as Amy Winehouse and Adele.

  • nice song

  • ma mauuiigh

  • Mama ... He treats your Daughter meaan <3

  • Damn! That's hot!!

  • I was not around this era, but grew up watching this kind of performances in movies and T.V. I love it!!! Ruth Brown, you are great!!!

    respect!

  • Pause at 0:09

Love the way she says "mamA"; How she goes on a high note at the end... This song is so true lol

  • Up til the day she died, Ruth could sing like that. It's really amazing.

  • what a dynamic voice, like her perfomance, that`s real R`n`B !

  • @MrSteamhammer100 actually she used to say that R&B means Ruth Brown .. and i think she was right

  • Ruth Brown equals R n B, lol she said something like that on t once.

  • The truly Queen of R&B!!

    Incomparable!!

  • R&B means Ruth Brown. Simple as that :)

  • love her! now i know why she used to say that R&B means Ruth Brown

  • Now Ruth Brown's life would make a MOVIE!

  • I agree. Sometimes, during the down time in her career, she was so broke that she had to work as a maid. That's why she became such an advocate for musicians' royalties. But who on EARTH would portray her?

  • I see Jennife Hudson in her, but I love Fantasia so much, I'd like to see her as Ruth. Monique has the versatility and personality with a dub-over. I just thought of Countess Vaughn (who is so underrated and underused)

  • @MusicalLyrica Good call. I think Fantasia would eat it up. They would just have to work on her acting the part.

  • Hey Musical Lyrica I agree and Vivica Fox would be the perfect one to play this music legend. They could pass for mother and daughter easily!!!!!!!!

  • I never thought of Vivica. I have to look at her again. I just got a flash of how she looked in court as the older "wife" of Frankie Lymon

  • @MusicalLyrica Yes she would be perfect to play the role of thiis fallen legend too bad she died before they would ever have met in '06

  • She said that R&B stood for both Ruth Brown and Rhythm and Blues. I couldn't agree with her more. May she rest in peace!

  • this clip is also featured in a great documentary series called Soul Deep.

  • we watched this in our enrichment class(: History of Rock 'n' Roll

  • Hey me too! Did the video also have Caldonia by Louis Jordan?

  • Me Too! In The Beginning Though! Love It!

  • me too!!

  • how many of you know that was Rakim's aunt

  • i like. you kno ya history. dnt know where youcome from you never see where you going.

  • I do

  • She's soooooo cool! Great post.

  • You go girl!! haha great

  • I love her attitude.thats almost as entertaining as the song itself. the last couplu of seconds made me laugh. she is really feelin what she is saying. GO RUTH! also, she is a very kind girl cuz she would go on the radio station my father worked at in vegas and try to get donations for things. very charitable woman.

  • i love this song i first listened to it when our music teacher made us watch the history of rock and roll

  • Now your moving.

  • x factor my ass

  • Far-out Fantastic!

  • I love, love, love this song. My mom and uncle use to play the hell out of this song. It brings back so many memories. Does anybody have the recording version of this? If so, please post it.

  • LOL Look at Ray Charles on the piano! Get it ray!

  • I still think it's hilarious how she squeaks on the second syllable of some words!

She sounds like a little parakeet!

    That's a cute style!

  • i love this SONg you go RUTh. she can sing!!!!!!!!!!
