That's a shame, I've done it a few times now.. not the hard way though... lol. Too much effort messing with all the wheat & wort, even though I would like to try at least once.

I bought a "Beer Machine 2000".

Add the gear, leave it in a warm place for a week or 2, then another week in the fridge. Bam- 20 pretty decent pints for a fraction of the price (about 50p a pint)- fast!

I'm a lager man & can really fizz my brew using the built-in CO2 valve, so I love it and think it deserves a mention! =D

Theres tons of craft beer styles produced like Imperial Russian Stouts, IPAs, DIPAs, etc. Germany on the other hand is stuck on the low fermentation spectrum. Good country for beer though.

If you get the chance to visit a microbrewery, it's cool to get "up close" while they're brewing. The mash & wort they talk about during "sparging" smell like nectar from the Gods! Hops haven't been added yet, so it's very sweet smelling. Some good lagers off the top of my head: Pilsner Urquell (Czech) Okocim (Poland) Zywiec (Poland) Blue Paddle (USA) Some good ales: Full Sail (USA) 90 Schilling (USA) Sawtooth Ale (USA) Not familiar with many stouts, but Guinness is great.
