Great great song. But yes man, you have the lyrics way wrong. Such as: Maver and her bonnet Streaks of life upon it Bettin on the ponies So things could get easier Just praying on a easy peace for her Also: She was a true blue blooded traveler She left her.... ... ... And a fool hearted head of hope She landed in a flat ... Cause she could play the six string Better than those macho pendejos Just thought all should know. ;-)
This is the order of the big 5 by popularity, but I think that ALice in chains, and Stone temple pilots should be the top 2. THeir my top 2 of the 90's.
WOW this album is undoubtly stp but it doesn't sound dated. I think thats due in part to the fact that the music hasn't really evolved much since 96 and also due to the fact that STP sound has always transcended genre and has a timiless element to it. Even though AIC is my fav band of the 90's, STP sounded like the most progressive of the grundge big 4.
This song strikes me as sort of a goopy eighties ballad but I love to just jam some off the wall lead guitar along with it. then I don't feel a little guilty for liking it.
This song strikes me as sort of like a goopy eighties ballad but I love to just jam some off the wall lead guitar along with it. then I don't feel a little guilty for liking it.
I thought this album was okay at first, now it's really starting to grow on me, it's probably my 4th fav STP album behind Tiny Music, then Core, then Purple, then this one :D
Dean DeLeo said:This is Robert's song and I think he wanted to combine different worlds. If you listen to the backbeat and check out what the bass and drums are doing, the drums are very distorted, very big and broken up, as is the bass.Yet the rest of the song is very beautiful and ethereal.Great piano playing too.And then Scott wrote this gorgeous and very dramatic story about a girl who goes to San Francisco. She wants to be a star and puts all her money on the ponies. He's an amazing storyteller
The same thing happened with Tiny music.Noone liked it at first because it wasnt Core but it grow's on you.If you heard Dont drop that dime from the last Velvet Revolver album you knew there would be a little country inspiration on down the road.
@beravutmak i wasnt to keen on slash , i like this album but dont love it i love some of the songs especially this one, my fave album this year is the gaslight anthems new one american slang
i have all the STP cds. Core was the most predictable. It had great songs, but the ones after that completely surpassed it for thier diversity alone. This is what STP has allways been about. It ain't Rock, Pop, Alt,ect... It's STP. nuff said!
@kristianPJ absolutely agree. the harder ones on this album fucking suck in my opinion. if they make another album, they outta just make an entire album of mellow songs cuz i think theyve run out of ideas for hard stuff.
this album is an instant classic.... only among true STP fans.... the rest of the bandwagon fans who only know core wont understand the new album... been waiting nine fucking years for a new STP record and im extremely happy with the new album
Thing is, that's not the case with a lot of STP fans like me.
Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good album with some great tracks in it, but it just isn't the STP I fell in love with back in the 90's.
Now, I'm not against a band changing styles. At all. But with this new album I think STP just left behind everything that made them unique. Tiny Music, Purple, N.4 and Core are the sound that made STP the band that it was, to ME.
this is why scott isnt arron lewis and johnathan davis and chester bennington this is what makes him scott and in my opinion way better than any of his watered down competition
There's also a return to really solid rock 'n' roll music, esp with songs like 'Dare if you dare', 'bagman', and 'fast as you can'. One of the differences with their previous music, is it's very smooth. At first I was not used to it, I thought they'd sold themselves to sounding cheap. But a lot of bands from the 90s have been doing the same thing over the last few years. Keep listening and you will love it.
I think fans should listen to the whole album first. I made the mistake of listening to a few songs on youtube first, and they were out of context. The album as a whole has a great feeling and personality. It certainly has a summer feeling about it, and its like a celebration or a gift to fans. The album still exhibits STP's diversity; there's some punk in it with Hickory Dichotomy (superb song) which really suits STP and scott weiland.
Great Album. DeLeo Bros. and Kretz are awesome and Weiland's lyrics and vocals are amazing. Not sure why some people have to bash them. They do something that no other band does, they change their sound from each album. If you listen to BuckCherry or Nickelback, then you can see what I am talking about. Their first song sounds like their last song. Way to go STP!!!!
@ChadnMel Agreed, they are very diverse and rich in their music. They're not just a head bashing band, but they've proven this before this album. What makes this album stand out is it is very clear headed and it sounds very fresh. Its not seeped in head bashing music, which is a very minor departure that is welcome. I pull back my previous comments, its a great album.
Well after listening to every single song off of this album, I can honestly say that this is the absolute worst STP album ever created, I would honestly listen to No. 4 than listen to this. If I wanted to listen to buckcherry, david bowie, country music, maroon 5, or green day I would listen to them, not to a copycat album. It sad that the band has forgotten its roots and completely lost its edge and have become an abomination of STP
It's weird, I'm not a country fan AT ALL, and I've been an STP fan since Core when I was 12, and I loved their harder sound then, but I've loved each new album as it's come along, even though they've gone in so many directions. I feel like my tastes have matured with the band. SO happy with the new album. My only complaint is that Scott's lyrics seem a bit too dark/not on the same page as the rest of the band on a few of the songs. Overall I love it though. I guess I'm just getting older.
@blaini6 Humans become set in their ways without even realizing it, that's why new things and change are hard to accept. When I first heard "Maver" I was horrified to hear such a country-ish tinge from STP. But it became one of my favorite tracks and I'm always playing it now. We need open minds or we lose out on a lot of great things. Have you heard "About a Fool" the iTunes bonus track? Very different sound for them. It's an amazing and gorgeous sad song.
its' great music, it is....but I know what you mean about the lyrics. I'm a sound person myself, don't really pay too much attention to them...but i've noticed that a lot of songs have that "velvet revolver-too anti drug" message....which is fine, but def. not the pilots i loved of earlier. great album though.
cant wait to hear the cd when i get it...from what ive heard online its very interesting..but id like stp to go back to their 90s style next time. i love their heavy rock n roll with melodies style..keep it up guys.
@KulaAShaker i've been a fan of stone temple pilots/ scott weiland since i was 10 years old and plush was a hit on the radio. they are amazing musicians and songwriters and i supported them up until this. i'm not downing their music by any means, but to wait almost 10 years for a cd and this is what they got, it is very unencouraging. i know they can write better songs than this and i still think scott is the best vocalist still alive, but i just don't agree with this whole album.
@riverofchains well scott just got back from velvet revolver about two years ago, when they gave him the boot in april of '08. i'm suprised that stp took him back, didn't they give him the boot also? idk how it happened but maybe they just aren't in the swing of things yet.....
@KoolAidHair no they didnt give him the boot or stp. he quit velvet because of creative differences, and same for stp. not boot but quit. get your facts right
