  • i think Ian needs balance his needs and desires of where he wants to play with his fan base. He does have fans in new zealand and i am pretty sure he does not really want to disappoint them.

  • i went to a roots to branches concert in bonn, germany.i got in,lost my ticket and found out that i miss my money.so i got out to my car, found my money and the stupid security did not let me in again (10min.later).

so i enjoyed the whole concert from outside the wall.

  • Ah, the burdens and responsibilities of being world famous.

  • Im watching this in New Zealand and in 1995 my friend and I had tickets for the Roots To Branches tour but then it was cancelled. Fourteen years later we now know why. Obviously poor ticket sales combined with the cost and time to travel here resulted in the cancellation.Major drag but understandable. New Zealand really is at the bottom of the world but such a lovely bottom it is ;-p

  • You do have a beautiful country. I visited for 10 days, mostly the north Island and upper south Island. Ian missed out as much as you did! He should bring his wife & kids on tour to NZ and play his two or three concerts then drive around the beautiful countryside.

  • @thefurv Just had to point out (two years too late) that Tull didn't cancel that tour because of poor tix sales. Ian got a dangerous blood clot in his leg while flying to Australia on that part of the tour and had to be hospitalized. He had broken his leg on stage in South America earlier in the tour and had been playing the rest of the tour in a wheelchair (poor guy). I saw them in Atlanta, GA where I live - he was rocking out in his wheelchair. You can read about his DVT experience on Tull's

  • @thefurv I saw them in NZ in 1994, when they played two concerts in New Plymouth. They were bloody fantastic and the crowd went nuts.

  • Thanks for posting this GREAT INTERVIEW footage of Ian's musical career....(btw, it's NOT supposed to be a flute lesson)!

  • I get "Classical" students all the time who were miss taught. Basic technique problems, forbidden to improvise or think. If you get some good technique there then at least you have a chance. But world outside School can be even colder and you'll see that the people who do best are not the best but those who can bullshit (market).

We had Joni Mitchell; now we got Jewel. We had Miles; now smooth Jazz Botti, From Hendrix to Benise. And I know many quality players out of work. Good Luck.

  • Gee, thanks for the "lesson" but I was gigging before you were born.

If You're at a "Conservatory" where VERY FEW BECOME MUSICIANS...then it must be a shitty place. Good Conservatories have higher standards and you don't even get in without some musicianship.

You sound like a troll from comments left at your site.

Anderson was great with Tull but he really sucks playing Fauré. Bet you do too.

Dole out the free info to someone other than myself because I'm decades ahead of you junior.

  • No clips of you on your page though. I guess you didn't want to show Julian Bream or David Russell up.

  • You're right; this is for people who have a clue. He is not patronising his audience.

  • Great Sherlock; God forbid an artist would actually discuss his craft...boring and lame (isn't that what someone said about you?).

  • If you want to learn an instrument there are plenty of sources to do that. When you perform all sorts of other factors come into play that are not obviously connected to playing the instrument. But you've never played in front of an audience, right?

  • Wow, you must be psychic! What a gift you have.

    Right.

Yes never played in front of AN audience...but many.

Now go dry your tears...and take any further tears back to mommy.

  • I think he has both feet right on the ground.
