Season 1 had a wonderfully dark & original feel to it. Season 2 played up the darkness even further & managed to be totally original as well. The problem was, they bore absolutely no resemblance to each other whatsoever. It's like the new crew that took over the show for season 2 felt that continuity was their mortal enemy, right down to the name of the alien's home planet (Mor-tax, Morthria..?) The Advocates were great, if a bit bumbling, while Malzor & Mana were deadly serious.
The first few episodes of WOTW, Season 1, were well done with likeable, believable characters and exciting plots. Unfortunately, the season gradually lost its intensity, flair, and even believability, often substituting sex and gore for quality. Season 2 was just awful and needed a complete overhaul: The episodes were completely inconsistent with Season 1 and written by a crew that clearly had no feeling or concept of the first season. All in all, a disappointing end to a promising start.
Besides the fact that this ending contradicts the first season and the '53 film, I would've liked a little more closure with these characters after two years than just "Let's go outside." I mean, this episode didn't even really have any emotional beats for Harrison, and I was always under the impression that his quest against the aliens (because of the murder of his parents) was the whole thrust of the series.
If it seems rushed, it's because the writers got hit with the "zomg, gotta wrap everything up in one ep" hammer. That's why there are so many discrepancies and continuity errors.
For example, the aliens have long invaded and plundered other worlds (they mention doing this several times in the series). The '53 Invasion was not a scientific expedition (if it had been, they wouldn't have needed to send War Machines). And if murder had been a big deal to the aliens, then the Advocacy and Mor-Taxan aliens from Season 1 should still be walking about. It's a pity that the people who took over from season one never took the time to figure out what worked in S1.
Not to mention that this final episode confirms once and for all that the Mor-Taxans of Season 1 and the "Morthren" of Season 2 are one in the same. You know, despite their different names.
Also, this idea that the "Morthren" were unaware of other alien races before discovering Earth directly contridicts the Mor-Taxan rivalry with the Qar'to in Season 1
I wish we could have a do-over with Joss Whedon writing a new season two that started from the end of S1. Yeah, some people would say he's overrated, but the man can make some sweet dark fantasy or sci-fi ... and generally have his shows follow continuity.
Not exactly the final showdown I expected. Felt very rushed. Frankly, the whole sympathy move with the aliens all of a sudden made the whole series seem worthless.
They did the same with "V" - although the bulk of the series sucked, I still stand by the original miniseries. Shows what happens when creative teams get changed over from the original visionaries.
Yeah they should've had a lot more than let's just go outside.

if malzar is a trater what does the eternal think of all this?
the eternal did not seem to want him to use the oblisk but he went ahead any way.
