"sport models" are a grey area. Even full size aircraft are strengthened according to their purpose & models are no exception! eg) aerobatic aircraft are strengthened specifically for the purpose of aerobatics! A real PA-28 isn't strengthened for aerobatics! ..But when it comes to models, if you want to fly it "scale like" it would've been FINE. If you want to fly high G split S maneuvers then inspect it and strengthen it yourself PRIOR to flying it !
The same exact thing happend to my CMP EP-PA28 last week. The Horizontal Stabilizer snapped in the exact same spot that Tinkerman's did in the above video. It dropped lik a rock and smashed in the cabin. It flew so dam good (before it crashed) that I just purchased another one. I reinforced and re-built the snapped tail and will install it on the new plane. I didn't even bother asking Nitro for a new plane but wondering if CMP's Mfg defect warrants a new replacement plane for free???
@taurustbolt I have purchased several models through nitro and I believe the answer to your question is yes. This is why it is $99. I don't think TinkerManRC would admit to that because his videos are on Nitros website. That would be a conflict in interest.
Hey Tim, sorry to see that happen. I know how you must feel after that! Looked like a great flyer right up to that point bud! Im posting this video on our forum that NitroPlanes watches so they feel the pressure to take care of you! Good talking to you last night! Talk soon! ~~Robert.
Ouuuuuuuwwwwwwwwchhh, bummer Tim, that sucks, but I have to agree with others, this vid should be grounds for a refund, as no model should do that in such a simple manouver...
Without this vid, proving what happened would be impossible, but for the tail to just "Fall off" is bonkers, seemingly a weak design in the rear of the fuse/stab..
@123RCUK I would agree very well said and all great points you are the man.. Thanks for your support on this and nice words.. We will see what happens and how this go's. great comment..Tim
that was a sweet inverted hard landing. joke aside. sorry for the loss mate. but its our life. I liked the way you honestly shared the flaw of the plane during your review. :D that counts. Keep up the great reviews.
@alishanmao hey hope all is well and thanks so much for visitng and commenting I sure do appreciate it .. Sure will keep up the reviews for you.. thanks..Tim
@TinkerManRC all is well here. thanks tim and yes I do watch your plane reviews but do not comment often. you have some great planes with you. how do you store them :D walls or ceilings. I am getting more into helis due to my new sponsor who is more into helis
sorry for your loss and that was a great video plane flys so nice and then the hole tail breaks off im glad i dont have that kit and im happy i wont now thanks to you. thanks for shareing tim
@randyneighbour No Worries bad kits come and go but the good ones stay with you.. You know the deal on this one..thanks for the kind words and visiting.. Awesome man ...TMRC
Was that the voice of Mrs. Tinkermanrc? Sorry for the loss. The flight till then looked awesome. Mine is still in the box, and I've heard of similar incidents from other pilots with this model. I will be sure to beef mine up when I get around to building it. Keep up the good job with videos TM, they are very informative and helpful. CMP = Cheaply Made Planes.
dam that sucks tim i know what is like to lose a bird LOL you have seen my vids and it is not fun lolol but that is part of the hobby. You are a good builder and i look up too you for tips and stuff.well hope you get fixed....if you are like me witch i know you are not lol i can fix and rig stuff you to make it work so if you are going to trash that let me know and i will buy it lOOL
You should send this vid to nitroplanes and DEMAND a new plane. It was obviously a design flaw. Just look at how many subscribers you have - all it would take are a few not so good words about them and they would loose business. it is their resp. to replace your plane due to design and build issues.
Sorry for the loss of what lookked to be a good aircraft. Just goes to show that even with all the maintenance, pre-flight checks, etc. Planes do and will fail us from time to time. As long as no-one gets hurt, we learn, build, fly, crash, repeat.....At least this wasn't pilot error...I hate when that happens.!!!!
How you doing. Yes you are right the real one does have the moving tail This model, the Stab does not move. As far as the tail failing its a week point of this model as you can see.. Thanks for commenting and visiting man. Sweet..Tim
Great video and nice explanation. After purchasing mine, I've heard reports of the same problem. And to this day, its still sitting on my bench. So far Ive taken all the covering off the horizontal and vertical stabs and Im in the process of planking them with 1/32 balsa sheet for rigidity. So is yours total loss or can you rebuild?
Awesome you are doing the right thing, yes you are right on the money. in addition, I would recommend the Vertical Stab and inside the Aft section of the Fuselage. I may be able to save it, just don't know were to get the canopy. Good luck with yours and strengthen it were you can,. because your going to need it. Thanks for visiting and sharing ..TMRC
Sorry for the loss of this great looking plane, were there just simply too much stress on the airframe, or just a bad design that caused the tail to fail you think?
@tommern89 Well the tail does need to be strengthened I have never had this happen to me in all the models I have flown.. your right it speaks for itself. Thanks for commenting and support..TMRC.
Buyer beware!
