one of the best concertos! such an inspiration, i have a version of the largo that is mostly influenced by john, you guys should check it out and comment.
@Deesade86 You have a fair amount of sports programs too, though. At least that was my impression when I was over there. Granted it was almost all football (soccer here in the U.S.) but I remember cricket and racing as well.
@jjobie Yes we get a lot of football, but it is small in scope. Very little football from the continent is promoted (Italy, Spain etc). We did have a classical TV channel but it only ever has soprano solo singers. Most of our TV promotes the worst music. Real lowest common denominator stuff. Maybe these "artists" have the best agents??
Guitar the outcast of the string orchestra yet one of the most popular ones!
though it may not have the sustain of the violin family nor the number of notes of a harpsichord or piano, but it deserves it's right to a great classical repetoire. Love the Guitar! I'm left handed!
The first time I came across this piece of music was on an album entitled "Vivaldi's Greatest Hits". This was about 19 years ago. This was the outstanding piece on the album, although it is all worth a listen. The live performance here is every bit as good as the sudio version on the album. In some ways I prefer this one, as there are fewer violinists etc cluttering up the overall sound.
Thanks for this beautiful music. Vivaldi is definitely one of my favorite composers. By the way, John Williams the guitarist and John Williams the composer are two different musician. What a double blessing! They are both outstanding in their respective fields of music.
To Surfshark 13. I have been studying and playing Classical Guitar for the past seven years ,in addition to studying it now as a guitar and music major in college ,So you calling me a phony is very disrespectful ...anyways why am I fighting with someone over the computer , I will be the bigger person and just let it go , But I wanted to say this you gotta stop talking smack, and if you do talk smack about someone get your facts straight
Oh yeah and I forgot to mention JOHN WILLIAMS ROCKS !!!!
I read somewhere (I have forgotten where) that he sometimes doesn't even practice each day. Amazing. People who make fun of things tend to be jealous.
oh to have been a fly on the wall while this was being recorded. The acoustics must have been incredible. Such beautiful music in such a beautiful setting - thank you so much for posting this!
There exists only guitar like instruments before the 15th century. These include the "Kithara" lyre from Greece, "lutes" from Uzekistan and Egypt, and the Arabian "ud," which is still played today as a traditional instrument in Arabia. Moors invaded Spain in the 8th century, bringing the ud with them. There is a wonderful book on the history of the guitar called "The Classical Guitar Book: a Complete History." It is published by Balafon Books. You can find it on line or in a library.
im in a jam i have a concert tonight but when i hit a open note all i hear is buzz when i fret it the buzz is less but is still there just a little it sounds like the buzz is coming from the bottom part of the bridge if i hit a note then slightly push my hand on the area of buzz it goes away but as soon as i lift it it is buzzing what can i do to fix this in the next 4 hours before the concert
A lot of people think the music of Gustav Mahler is generally quite depressive...I don't always agree but you could try it. Further on I'd recommend Grieg'ss "Death of Aase", Samuel Barber's "Adagio for strings", Richard Strauss' "Beim Slafengehen"...A lot of the music of Rachmaninoff and Chopin is very melancholic as well.
Vivaldi wrote this for the Lute but I think it sounds just as good on the guitar. Come to think of it, most classical music is played with modern instruments and not what they were written for (often referred to as "Period Instruments")...
2nd movement is too fast - it loses its majesty when played this way.

Classical arts showcase channel sounds interesting. Shame I live in England where our TV is only really good for comedies (which we do well).

The guitar is developed from the lute which ,in turn, comes from the middle eastern instrument El Oud.

I thought the guitar was originally an african instrument? though developed from a lute definately makes more sense =P
