  • Thanks for your video cast!

I didn't see your list. Do you have a list of needed materials specs needed to clone an older primary boot drive and send it over to a possibly new ssd replacing the old drive? Thanks...

  • Please tell me whats with the stethoscope and doctors office background? Were you at work one day at the docs office and said "hey, Im going to make a tutorial on how to clone a hard drive for a Mac"? Kinda random, but thanks for the video...great job :)

  • hey if i save it to disk image and burn the image to a disk what will happen?

  • Hey Steve,

This video was a huge help. Thank you very much!

    - J.

  • thank you for the easy tutorial, I'm upgrading my macbook pro to 1tb tomorrow! Was really easy to follow your video, thanks!!

  • I am still having problems cloning my drive. How come they don't give u a pin board when u get the cloning kit from bestbuy?

  • Thanks! this helped me, nice tut.

  • Thanks a lot for the Tutorial my friend! I tried to clone my disk by using CARBON COPY CLONER but that software did not work fine with LION, so I saw your tutorial and downloaded Super Duper 2.6.4 (which is LION compatible) and it worked just fine!

    thanks a lot

  • IM going to be doing this on Thursday.I already have the new 500 gb hard drive but I. Didn't know u need an enclosure and inboard. All they gave me at best buy was a esata cable

  • Thanks man, great video, perhaps the easiest one to understand. I now have little fear about upgrading, and can finally get that 720GB HD I want (Currently have 5GB free on a 250GB),

  • This is going to be really useful when I change my MBP's drive this evening. Steve, thanks much. Your presentation has been "super-duper", nothing more nothing less than there should be. And BTW, that last tip, although I knew about it, seems like a real good idea. More portability. Thanks again. Cheers!

  • Hi Steve...do you think i need to format the new WD 750gb HD before cloning?

  • What about the partition?

  • hi steve .. im planing to buy a new macbook pro 2011. will it work if i clone the hdd from my old macbook pro 2009. onto a new hdd and put it into the new mac book pro? or can i just take my old hdd off from my macbook pro 2009. and put it into the new macbook ??? thanks in advance !!

  • wow thanks dude! helped alot!

  • What external enclosure do you use?

  • I have an SSD currently in it, and i own an external drive. 1TB. In a case thing. So i back it up, (clone) then take the case thing for my 1TB drive off then replace?

  • So how do I clone both Mac OS and WIndow 7 on the Bootcamp partition? Is it possible?

  • Question , how do you feel about SSD, Solid State Drive, for MAC thinking about making that move to a SSD.

  • can you tell me what kind of pin reader i need i think that is what u said you call it i have a wd hard drive but i lost that part so i cant clone my macbook now

  • Are you a doctor

  • plz respond, im buying a wd scorpio black 500gb for my 2010 13" MBP, will i have to format it to FAT32 or not?

  • @TheLonelyHappyMeal Use Mac Journaled! Let us know how it goes

  • @stevesmacfix Can i do this exact procedure with an SSD Hard Drive?

  • Hi Steve. Unfortunately my wife drop my MBP and made a big dent by disc insert. But my real problem is that it's started freezing with a pixelated screen and turning of by it's self, and now it won't go on. Was the HD damage? Do I need a new+ OS x? Thank you in advance

  • @veraso1 It might be several things. Possibly the HD is fine. Good way to find out is to pull out the hard drive and and try it on another mac. You can also try to get an enclosure to see if the hard drive is preserved. As far as the screen, that could be a loose connection. Personally I would take it into the apple store and see what they say. I can only give you so much advise without having my hands on it.

  • Hey Steve, Do you have an old video on how to clean up your mac? When I say "clean" I mean find old files/apps/downloads and delete them? I think a spring cleaning video would be kinda cool because I know I could definitely use it. If you have an old one could you please post it?

    Thanks I love your videos!

  • @tvbuster I think i do. I will look for it man for sure!

  • Great Vid very to the point. What format was your new Western Didigtal formatted to before you ran Super Duper? I just made the switch from P.C. and I want to backup my MacBookPro to one of my externals which are currently Fat32. Thanks...

  • @sambar Mac Journaled

  • i had a spare 120gb hard drive that i bought for $100 years ago, i just took that apart and use the enclosure from that.

  • will this help if lets say.... I plan on buying a imac and want to sell my macbook??? I plan on selling my macbook since I got a ipad. and for my home computer I'm going to get an imac but can I do this same process on my external hard drive so I can sell my macbook first?

  • @herme611 I don't think this is advisable, as you're switching computers (different firmware, etc.) Just get the iMac first and use migration assistant or save only your essential files.

  • Hi Steve, nice vid. Are you a doctor or so seeing a Stethoscope around yr neck?

  • What if you are running Windows 7 on Parallels 6? Do you think that would be a problem?

  • Thanks, your tutorials are the best.

  • Good video Steve !

  • Hi Steve,

I want to this with my intel Imac. I have 250 gigs and want to upgrade to 1 tb do I need to buy the hard drive enclosure and pin reader or is that step just for laptops.

  • @Rangerxlt21 If you want to transfer your data to your new hard drive, you are going to need to have some type of appropriate enclosure (larger 3.5" size for iMac) and a cable to transfer your data. I'd really recommend a Firewire enclosure. If you don't want save any files, or you have everything you want to keep backed up some other way, (CDs, flash drive, or on other Macs). Then of course you can just swap out the hard drive, and install a fresh copy of OS X from the install disk.

  • @an80sGuy cool thanks

  • hhaha this THIS is what i needed thank you Steve!!

  • i want a 640gb hard drive on my macbook pro, do you recommend 7200 or a 5400 version?

  • @w35t51d369 7200 is faster than 5400. Those are the RPM's so thats basically how fast the information can be found and transfered. Always go for the faster RPM's
