...well, the "fireman" at his usual stunning...and this man died in 1942..from complications for a hemmorhoid operation......Toscanini was a pallbearer, and called it murder
I like Feuermann very much, but I can't understand why every virtuoso plays everything like he wants, not like it's written in the notes! I mean that he plays different notes, not about the individual interpretation of every musician! :) But truly beautiful performance! :) :)
@CelloVoice When you consider that they're virtuosos I think they are quite qualified to make a bit of changes. Its a personal and artistic matter, though. or thats what I believe.
For those interested, here is some additional information: This recording was published as Parlophon P. 2233 (master numbers 2-8761 and 2-8762). According to the original Parlophon recording ledgers, who have miraculously survived, this was recorded 25 March 1926. Five months later Parlophon gave up acoustical recording altogeher, so the catalogue life of the disc was extremely short. Eight other Feuermann masters from the same session have not been published ...
I rarely have problems with sound quality - hell, I can listen to a Ysaye recording without ever complaining about the quality but I always thought this was a bit...over the top. I love Feuermann's art, though.

@CelloVoice because if everyone played every piece the same. then there would be no point in interpretations because there would be none.
then there would be no value in anyones playing except for "he missed that note in the second cadenza"
