Out of curiousoity, does your YT name come from the Jerry Mengo record named Bibi? It was recorded during WW2 in Paris on the Swing label but not released until about 1990.

Everything I've heard and read about Warlop points to the conclusion that he was a hyperactive child that never outgrew his hyperactivity. The passion, the intensity, the power all lead to this. It was said that his talent came from somewhere else, that he was totally original, etc. I think he lived in his own world and had his own frame of reference and that was reflected in his music.

Until 2002, the pastry shop where grew up still had the Warlop name even though it was on its 3rd new owner. Now it's part of a chain and has their name and colors. The new owner is named Cucci and he has kept the same high quality that the shop was famous for. They also seem to be nice people even if they've erased all the traces of the past. This was released as the 13th record in the catalog of Disques Swing (in other words, Swing 13), the first record company in the world dedicated only to jazz.. I have the original 78 and this is on the A side. Also, it was recorded on 21 December, 1937 and not on the 27th as I mentioned below. I wanted to be Disques Swing 13 but YT wouldn't let me have that one.

Today, Sunday, January 23rd, 2011, is the centennial of Michel Warlop's birth. I'm going to Douai, France to visit the pastry shop at 160, rue de la Maire, where he grew up. Today is also the 101st birthday of Django Reinhardt.

Ce fut le chef-d'oeuvre de Michel Warlop. Elle montre ce qui est possible quand vous avez la meilleure éducation de la musique classique, technique qui permet tout, la passion au-delà de la croyance et l'intensité comme jamais existé auparavant. Warlop a remporté de nombreux prix a été appelé l'un des trois ou quatre grands violonistes du siècle (20e). Django et Louis Vola à la basse, étaient également présents sur les 27 décembre 1937 sur disque 13 dans le catalogue du label Swing.

This was Michel "Michou" Warlop's masterpiece. It shows what's possible when you have the best classical music education available, technique that makes nothing impossible, passion beyond belief and intensity like never before existed. Warlop won many prizes and scholarships was was called one of the three or four top violinists of the (20th) century. Django and Louis Vola on bass were also present on 27 Dec. 37 to record disc 13 in the Swing Label's catalog.
