I'm in the opinion that only thing we should be doing in the country is fixing our mess, stabilize the reign and the Afghan government enough so to leave. As a veteran of the 10th mountain division (infantry), it is my assessment that the war is quite winnable in Afghanistan. It is just taking a bit of time to adjust the CTTL/ killing program model to the bucolic and racially homogeneous Pashtun taliban.

On the one hand, continued activity in Afghanistan will definitely continue Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. However, is there some other solution to the war? I'm in the opinion that only thing we should be doing in the country is fixing our mess, stabilize the reign and the Afghan government enough so to leave. However, what other solutions are there to maintain a environment for Afghan state to grow?
I don't feel we were in the right to go into Afghanistan, but do we leave without fixing the country.

the problem is taliban / al qaeda operatives wont come out and fight head on. the guerilla warfare they engage in, sadly is effective. US's conventional warfare isn't as effective. Their presence could indeed fuel more anger in the long run resulting in more insurgency recruits. It's complicated in my opinion

As a veteran of the 10th mountain division (infantry), it is my assessment that the war is quite winnable in Afghanistan. It is just taking a bit of time to adjust the CTTL/ killing program model to the bucolic and racially homogeneous Pashtun taliban.

It seems alot of young (non-wealthy) men die for old men's (usually well connected and rich) agenda's. How many politicians have their own kids dieing in the middle east?...................... The Taliban will split up and some will go with the government. Pressure from Pakistan will increase and with our drones we can destroy the leadership. This will weaken the Taliban forever. Right now there are only a small number of AQ in the country. AQ is on the way out forever.

The soldiers in Afghanistan support the mission overwhelmingly every time they're asked, even in Iraq where public support went down to the 30's for a while, the troops were still in favor of the mission. These cherry picked liberals represent themselves alone, not the majority of the military. They have a right to their opinion, so do the majority that disagree with them.

These wars are not about protecting America, they are about making rich people richer and spreading their influence. I remember how many soldiers in my division who were thoughtless lemmings who actually thought we were there to protect our freedoms. As Iraq has ever been in a position to suppress our freedoms. warlocks, if you served, you're entitled to give your views on it, I noticed you mainly went off on Iraq which wasn't as popular over time, though the soldiers always said they supported the mission. I agree with the majority of them, as opposed to you. The soldiers you disparage as thoughtless lemmings were protecting our freedoms definitely when it went to a war vs. terrorists after 2003 in Iraq---wasted a lot of Alqaeda trash and helped build Muslim support against the jihadi murderers.

warlocks, when we first went in, it's debatable as to what freedoms of ours we were protecting, despite non-Alq Saddam terror links/assumedWMD. However, when terrorists took the chief enemy role, we were fighting people like Zarqawi who trained with the same Alqs who bombed our NY civilians. AQI and Muslim terrorism in general took a big hit in Iraq, especially during the surge, which is good for those who want to protect our freedom to not have airplanes crashed into our office buildings.

Well Iraq had a strong leader who was not on good terms with the rest of the middle east.
Now on the other hand Taliban and Al Qaida have much greater chance to prosper there, rather than before were Iran and Iraq were on bad terms.
Rather keep em split up, fighting against themselves than have their attention drawn on the vest.
After all Bush attacked Iraq and afghanistan in good spirit of the bush doctrine, but has ended up increasing the hatred to the vest. Meaning, the bush doctrine failed.
