If it's not ova, they more or less just used the same idea and name, but change details, maybe even the whole ending (just look up Hellsing, there's a real difference between the OVA and "not-ova", or Fullmetal Alchemist, where they didn't wait for the books, so the anime went of in a compleatley different way than the "original" (they made a new ova-anime, just to get everything right)
