People who play FPS's should watch this video and realize silencers aren't tacticool attachments which reduce all noise when firing to just a "tick tick tick". Real silencers are still pretty loud and can only fire a limited number of rounds before they get tossed.
@wangmsater - Real silencers are definitely still pretty loud, however I have over 3,000 rounds through my rifle silencer and it surely doesn't need to be tossed, still sounds like it did on day one. Though my rifle silencer isn't made out of plastic like the one featured in this video ;)
@wangmsater Depends on the suppressor. Baffled suppressors can have several hundreds of shots fired through them before cleaning is needed. Wrapped suppressors are good for about 25-50 shots before the cloth liner needs to be changed. The real purpose behind them is to disguise your location, as suppressed firearms sound like they are a lot further away then they actually are. It also depends on the rounds, sub sonic rounds though a suppressor are incredibly quiet.
Movies are so inaccurate. The average dB rating of a suppressed firearm seems to be about 130dB. That is not as quiet as a whisper (~50dB) as the movies would like you to believe.
@bangmeister Assuming he is using 45ACP as stated in his description, it is in fact sub sonic ammunition. all 45 ACPs out of the box are sub sonic, they chronograph about 750 to 850 fps. speed of sound depending on temperature/air density is somewhere around 1115 fps (the average super sonic 9mm cartridge)
@AV3NG3R00 that is the way most law enforcement are trained to shoot, it is fast and efficient and it lets you see your surrounding with out having a waving gun in the way....i think you shoot funny.
Thanks for sharing! Been a Glock fan for a few years now and had no Idea there was a factory suppressor! Sad that in the states we would have to pay $200 for a tax stamp, and then have to throw it away after 15-25 rounds!
Love the square shape. Never seen that in a suppressor before.
What I'd really love to see in vids on suppressors is a sound meter in place so we can actually see the db reduction, rather than deal with camera audio limitations.
@patchbunny SilencerCo has made a square-ish suppressor, it's actually a better design increasing overall internal volume without sacrifice of increased diameter that would get in the way of your sights. dB reduction numbers are on SilencerCo manufacture website and also their youtube channel. sound levels do vary depending on ambient temperature and air density at time of measurement.
The shooting style is NOT weird. Watch Costa from Magpul Dynamics shoot. I think the disposable is cool but useless here in the U.S. when I can rebuild my Osprey and keep shooting. But it's still neat for "Offshore" tactics.
What I would have really liked to see was a string of about 30 rounds shot, so we could hear for ourselves (even through the bias of the sound equipment) just how much sound degradation occurs throughout.
I suspect since this can is only intended to be shot wet, that the 15-25 round figure is when the coolant medium burns up.
I'm betting it's still a serviceable suppressor, just 10+dB louder.
(Though a long firing string may very well melt it! :O )
Rob, the reason your camera does that is because of the compression feature common in most microphones. It will actually ramp down the output of the microphone to get it under a certain threshold for recording purposes. A professional soundman might be able to get it recorded right, but probably a decibel-meter would be the way to go. Awesome vid, by the way!
I suppose one had better not have one of these in the States. My suppressor requires a Tax stamp to be legal.....don't plan on paying a visit to Club Fed!
Who is glock marketing and selling this too? I don't get it, you have to purchase a different barrel, and every time you go through a magazine you need to chuck out the can.
It is either a cheap supressor for people who occasionly wanna fire a suppressed gun, or, as i´ve never seen marketing for it, an undercover agent/spy/hitman tool...
I dunno tho, I guess it has it´s uses...normal Supressors also degrade, but cost alot more.
Plastic. The barrel is actually about 5.5 inches long and a has a very simple straight slot cut in it. The device has a spring loaded metal wedge that snaps into the slot in the barrel when you push the device onto it. To remove, turning 90 degrees causes the non-cut round part of the barrel to "cam" the spring-loaded metal wedge out of the slot and you can slip the device off.
Actually, after watching it a few times now that I am back in the states, I am convinced that my video camera's microphone/processing must be affecting the way the can is heard. There is clearly not as much difference between the un-suppressed shot and the suppressed shots as there was on the range. The can was actually pretty impressive. Not "worth" the effort/money in the US, but cool for those overseas who are interested in having the capability or experience of shooting suppressed.
I hate to post anything negative..But I don't quite understand it..Here in the states all the major brand cans cost less than that to produce..granted the markup is super high because the production numbers are so low..(Well mostly because no silencer company has a clue how to advertise) I mean lets be honest..But with that can its good for maybe 25 rounds..Its loud..and the pistol doesn't cycle..I'm not sure of the application or laws there but an oil filter would be a better choice..
Rob, Thanks for the video. I learned about these at Glock Armorer's school, but have not been able to find any videos related to the Glock suppressor.

That's not an uncommon stance. That's a textbook Weaver, though Isocoles seems to be more common.

Damn nice review. Very nice tap-rack.
What type of mechanism is used to secure the suppressor? It looked like you simply pushed it on.
KirShizzle 1 year ago
you are correct about the added weight making it harder for the action to cycle, but suppressors do in fact increase back pressure
