Sweat, i wish i was there! nothing sounds better than pure British muscle "DBR9 - V12" sounds like a rocket with an exhaust the size of a pee shooter?!?!
unluckyid...i believe the only gt aston will be the drayson barwell gt2 vantage which isn't doing so well. amr/prodrive pulled the dbr9s to focuse on the lmp1 cars. i have amr footage from when they last they won at road atl in petit couple years ago. i know peugeot will be at petit le mans 09...i hope aston will run the lmp1's where they would have a chance lapping on pace with the turbo diesels.
yeah putting on a little show. It is usually just a meet and greet at Aston Martin of Atlanta before Petit Le Mans, but that year was a little extra fun.
the peelout on the way out would warm up the tires, but yeah why not melt your tires before you put some new ones on right? ive popped old tires from burning out before, its fun if you have them on cheap rims
@LaOnicap1972 i'm pretty sure in a race doing a burnout out of the pits would get some heat into the tyres and peel off the slippery skin of the new tyre
Does anyone know why race cars like this Aston Martin has only one large "lug nut" as opposed to 5? How is it that the wheel is secure to the hub with just one? Wouldn't it be easier for the wheel to slip off?
im not even gonna try to act like an expert cause im not... i would think that they have one because its 4 less that they have to take off... and as for the wheel coming off (again just what i think) the wheel nut takes up basically the same amount of same as five so its probably on there just as good.
the one is stronger than all 5 of the normal nuts. its less likely its going to brake as opposed to 5 smaller ones. its not like its a normal size lug nut.
racing cars have a single wheel nut for the obvious reason of time. its much quicker to undo one nut than 5. as previously stated, the wheel rim is splined, as is the driveshaft on the car. its perfectly safe, and if you think its a new idea, it first came about back in 1935 when it was invented by a british firm called rudge whitworth, and wheel made under license by an italian firm called route borrani. back then, wheels had 'knock on-off spinners' which were hammered on with rubber mallets.
that was freakin awesome

ArchEnemy65 2 years ago
maybe to heat the new tires quickly to gain grip
jedikillah101 2 years ago
@LaOnicap1972
That burnout would be quite useful in competition. Tyre warmers are not allowed in GT racing, so they can at least heat up the rears.
They do use heat tents to pre-warm tyres, but not as effective as the F1-known warmers wrapped around the tyre.
PS: Burnouts are forbidden at Le Mans pitstops since a couple of years for safety reasons
tommy9927 1 year ago
@LaOnicap1972 they do it in real races too, but that's to warm up the tires

the wheels are but on a toothed spline, with corresponding grooves on the wheels. the lug nut is there simply to hold the wheel in place
