  • One of the greatest songs ever recorded.

  • Definitely the best version of this song. The chords in the beginning are just magical

  • Love affair also had this song

  • Really beautiful and amazing song. Reason for many of covers.

Versions from Jamie Cullum, Gloria Estefan & U2 are absoluely terrible - song is degraded.

Version of Carl Carlton & The Love Affair are neutral for me.

Robert knight is king knight - this original soul version is perfect...

...and that for me is nice version from Sandra, because I like genres Synthpop and New wave.

  • My brother and his Annie....This is their Song! I will remember this Song, connecting them as One, since I was a young girl!!! Romantic, Classic....The best memories ever!!!

  • Robbed of stardom by the average "Love Affair"...

  • Absolutely fantastic song!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the instances in which the remake was a bigger hit than the original. In 1967, Robert Knight's version peaked at #13. Seven years later, in 1974, Carl Carlton took his version to #6.

  • awesome, timeless song.

  • How can anyone dislike this song? I'd like to meet those 4 people. They must need medication.

  • YES YES YES This is THE best version of this song. Most of the oldies stations play the stale Carl Carlton version. Listening to Carl vs. Robert is like comparing $3.95 wine with a fine Merlot - there is no comparison.

  • @tritonrocks I agree, i've always thought this is the better version. More heartfelt and soulful, plus it's the one i loved in the 7th grade.

  • The writers of this great song - Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden - both performed at a show in Nashville last week and still sound excellent. They're both talented guys who have enjoyed super-successful careers.

  • Wow, Vanilla Ice apperently stole the baseline for Ice Ice Baby. and Madona stole the chorus for Like a Prayer.

  • @AngeCord Listen to Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie, Vanilla Ice *literally* stole the bassline from there...!

  • oooh yeahaaaaa nice

  • Great Music, but does anybody have the "B" side POWER OF LOVE?

    cant find the track ANYWHERE

  • I saw him one time as a child Ilove this song this is when all girls wish to be married ! Did he ever do another song ?

  • Peaked November 18, 1967

  • Y is der cryllic writing?

  • This version by Robert Knight is

Far and away one of best love songs of the rock and roll era !!

Thank You for this post !!

  • U2 version is the worst I've ever heard. Thanks Robert Knight! ;-)

  • Robert Knight, Carl Carlton either or - its a great song!!!!!

  • @taxman14072 Agreed. I like both versions. I also like both Temptation's and Rare Earth's "Get Ready."

  • underrated, way too good to be underrated

  • One of the sunniest songs I have heard

  • Love this song....reminds me of the good old days when life was so much simpler! This is by far the best version.

  • Just perfect!

  • Check out Howie Mandel's "MObbed" show on Fox. Episode one, THIS SONG RULED IT!

  • Wore the grooves off my record. Great song!!!

  • Yes this was the original, I remember buying it on 45rpm!! Love Affair no contest!!

  • This song was recorded 44 years ago, and that chorus is still going!!! It'll never end

  • Original version from 1967. Nice song, thanks for posting.

  • This was mine and my boyfriends song back in 1967. Although the relationship didn't last I still think of him when I hear this song...

  • Heard this was the song that was used by the Montauk Project as a brainwashing memory trigger out on Long Island NY at Fort (CAMP) Hero. Is it true? I do not know, but I can tell you that Fort Hero is an eerie place. One time my cousin heard something heavy jump down from a tree top and scurry off through the woods near the radar tower out there. It was about midnight, pitch black out. Normal animals do not jump out of trees at night and leap to the ground....

  • Undoubtedly the best version of the song, though Jamie Cullum did an awesome rendition!!!

  • great song

  • No other version even comes close...

  • I keep wondering why i thought the song was nicer than what i had been hearing ..... yeah... this is the kind of celebratory feel that draws me to this song. I like!

  • @MamaJoan1958 That's a real nice way of putting it!!

  • This original version is amazing! Jamie Cullum´s is also great though.

  • @TheChrisplot Cullum couldnt carry a tune in a bucket

  • Tgis original version is amazing! Jamie Cullum´s is also great though.

  • I love this song! I was waiting for a lift outside a garage. There were two mechanics working on a car when this came on the radio. They both started dancing to it ... it was absolutely brilliant ... MMD ... will always be a great memory :)

  • This is the best version hands down. Carlton might have the beat, but this has sincerity and feeling, which Carlton's doesn't even touch!

  • Great classic song that will last forever!

  • This takes me back many years as it was the theme song for The Hit Man And Her. Used to follow the show and go to it,where has the time gone.

  • 2010 there will be only love affair in great britian oly the one and only MR Steve Ellis i thank you happy new year colin x

  • I Love Robert Knight!!!!

    This original song is absolutely!!!!!!!!

    the best version ever!xxx

Happy new year to everyone xxx

  • to ManulovaSoul : Can you upload Robert knight's other song "rainbow valley" ?

  • wow great memories, thnx for sharing this classic!!!

  • Gloria Estefan's version was a huge pop/dance hit in 1995. In fact, it is still one of her best loved hits from the 90s. She gave a great feminine twist to this 60s classic!

  • Carlton made an important change to the harmonic structure which adds tension. Compare the melody/harmony on the line "I went away JUST WHEN YOU needed me so" between the two versions. Carlton sounds like he needs her love, but Robert Knight sounds like he's prepared to give his life for it. Absolutely sublime music.

  • @spankiek I think that the statement that "Carlton sounds like he needs her love" is even too strong. Carlton quite honestly sounds a bit insincere. I think a more accurate statement for Carlton is "your love would be nice, if you're willing to give it. If not, oh well." Knight sounds like he's completely serious and absolutely prepared to give the person that he is singing about TLC for a lifetime.

  • The original, the best!! Beautiful!

  • I like this version better. Better pacing and clearer.

  • never realized how good a tune this was til I heard Robert Knight do it. The original.

  • Everlasting Robert Knight !

  • best version

  • I love him....... and my Star from Italy ;-))))

  • Love this and I'd like to hear his version of 'Rainbow Valley'

  • you cant beat the old skool soul the rest just followed keep the faith

  • Both versions are dynamite.

  • Great song and thanx for the memories..5*!!

  • Got this record on a brown monument label without backing singers and without big orchestration 1968- any ideas as to what it is?

  • The best song i´ve ever heart !!! Great !

  • 60s music is fucking awesome

  • This version by Robert Knight, the original, IS the best version, by far!

  • I love both versions

  • I love both this version and the remake by Carl Carlton!

  • @doctorhill11 yeah me too! :)

  • this is by far the best version....carl carltons isnt so bad but this original has the emotion (not saying carlton's doesn't but knights version is more genuine, thats all). absolutely love this song!!!

  • Hi my mum LOVES this song she was dancing round the Kitchen!!

  • Gloria Estifan covered this tune. Cant find it on Youtube. But it's out there and it's great.

  • This version by Robert Knight, the original, happens to be the best version, by far! Carl Carlton`s is a distant second!GREAT SONG!

  • Jeez!!!
