Two days earlier an ef3 hit northern illinois, (near Harvard, Il.) a UP train, Edwards Apple orchard, several homes were obliterated....no loss or life at last posting.
haha i remember that day ... I didnt like it .... i love storms but not ones that can kill me merely by admiring it ...far to much power for me.
And unbelievably the guy who owns the trailer park put more trailers back in ....um...dangerzone ... cut your loses dude it will happen again ...We live in tornado alley for gawd sakes lol.
Well there isn't a rule that says they have to be and YouTube allows up to 500 characters to be used in their comments so I don't see how it is harming anyone by posting longer comments. If they are too long for you to read simply just don't read them. Problem solved.
It isn't freakishly dangerous unless you are reckless and do so with out any meteorological knowledge. It takes a lot of focus, research, and patience and while it isn't safe by any means it isn't freakishly dangerous. That said DO NOT CHASE TORNADOES by your self if you have not a good understanding of meteorology or a lack of experience.
I remember that day cause I saw that same tornado from far far away. I hate tornados. I've noticed that we have more chances of them developing late at night or when it's dark. Well thats when the storms have been getting ugly or hit us in northeast oklahoma.
A lot do, and to give you an idea from 1950 to 2006 an estimated 1,922 tornadoes touched down in the state of Missouri according to The National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) which is the world's largest active archive of weather data and is run by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). NOAA also runs The National Weather Service (NWS) and The Storm Prediction Center (SPC).
And those are just recorded ones, damn. Anyway thanks for your response. I was going to move there, I still might, who knows. That's why I was curious.
Well if it makes you feel better, the probability that a tornado would hit the house you are moving to in Missouri is the same as you throwing a dart at a map of the state while blindfolded in an attempt to land the dart on your future home.
Thanks, that's good for me to know. I would probably think of a way to make it a least fearful experience as possible if I moved down to Missouri or anywhere else in the mid west or southern states for that matter. Like become a storm chaser. Anyway I don't know whats more devastating tornadoes or the mentality of Southern Californians. The same aggression wise, otherwise tornadoes are much more fascinating. Sometimes I wish we got more tornadoes in these parts,to much sun is bad for you anyway.
ok sorry I guess youtube did not send my last comment and i entirely forgot what i had said. but thanks i appreciate this information. i can only imagine the numbers of non recorded tornadoes adding to that list.
No it went through, I just have it so I have to approve comments on this video to weed out stupid posts like "ah shit dawg its fake!" or other stupid trolling messages.

That was awesome, and notice at 0:08 there was pink lightning strike? Check it closely guys. And then another flash? I thought it was cool, and man. did you hear about Epsom, New Hampshire? EF-3 Wedge, or more people say it was an F-3 but, weather stations say a strong EF-3 Very weak EF-4 WEDGE! I know, sounds scary. Imagine being hit by a tornado. I almost did, lol. They're super scary.
Well the ol F scale has been official retired and also an F3 and EF3 are essentially the same thing, the only difference is the recalculated wind speed sand the added damage indicators to allow for a more accurate ratting of the tornadoes strength and remove a large amount of guessing from damage assessment.
Yeah, man. It's more of the factual thing than a guessing game now a days, I use to guess on the tornadoes when I use to chase these bad boys, I gave up when the turned WEST (They say it usually has the probability of turning east rather than west) And it chased us until it recided, and 5 minutes after that. We ran out of gas and pushed our car a 1/8 of a mile to the un-harmed gas-station, EF3 tornadoes following you is some scary shit, it killed my camera!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!
Yeah, I guess you're right. Oh yeah, this is my other account. :) Dude, I know how crazy those storms are, one time. (I broke my camera) I was in Kansas, and I remember the scariest EF-3 of my life. I was sitting in my house, a tornado warning went off. And it was hailing like hell, then. Before I knew it, I saw my neighbor's house be covered by debris and it was all-over the place, a wood plank went through our window. Tornadoes are beautiful killers, aren't they. Thanks for the vid BTW.
your old nemesis from nearly 23 years ago came back for more:) i am born in barrie as were my mom and 3 uncles and they said tragically 8 people died in the 1985 one.
Technically yes. The old F scale was just recently replaced with the EF scale which is much more accurate and the wind speeds have been modified slightly.
It may look small but it was rated as an EF2, just shy of an EF3 and it destroyed numerous mobile homes as well as a barn, which is what the initial derbies you see in the beginning of the video. An EF2 has winds of 110-137mph. The tornado was about a quarter of a mile from us at the most.
Awesome intercept Bart & Chris! Sorry about the technical difficulties, but the footage you guys did get is great! Hopefully there be many other chase opportunities during the upcoming season.
great video... some of that lightning was close.. what a way to start the year.. hope the severe season from the plains to where i live in virginia is good this year..pretty much a down year for us here last year.. thanx for the post
Duh, I guess I should have watched it all first...

Actually, that tornado happened on the same day and was associated with the same outbreak that produced this tornado.

That is why you generally do not approach a tornadic storm from the north or the bears cage and always have a southern escape route.
