  • Looks like some of the same equipment we had at KCSN in the late '80s and early '90s. I had a show there for awhile. Great old station. I think it was heavily damaged in the '94 Earthquake. Keep having fun there.

  • so great for your friend, frank langella, on his oscar nomination for frost/nixon, sam. i hope he wins, as well as ron howard for director, and of course the film itself:-) xoxo-vicki

  • @VLPRESL Frank is simply the best!!! I´m affraid that very, very underrated too...

  • Yes, Sam--Starting Out In The Evening is indeed breathtaking. Langella is amazing and your enthusiasm is contagious.

  • How fun!...

I just found out Mamie Lee's "Once in a Life Time" is being reissued on CD to be released on January 28.

Also found the Cass Elliott and Doodletown Pipers CDs. I put the links to them all in the description to the right of the video.

  • The song Sam is singing in the background is "I Don't Want To Know". There is a link to the song under the video.

The video Peter mentions with Sam and Liza seeing "Balls of Fury" is a Video Response. See the icon above of Sam wearing sunglasses.

    Enjoy!

  • brilliant words of wisdom :-)

  • Thanks Sam,

I agree with all that say that you should have your own Talk show! And Don Costa is the bomb and bag of chips, but I never heard of Mamie lol. Now compare "Pippin'"music to "Wicked. I'm sorry but I love Pippin so much more. But I do love his new score for "Enchanted"!!! Your rendition of "I don't want to know" is simply delicious!

  • I agree; great people always remain curious. Never stop learning! Great vlog Sam!!

    Love,

    Mary Beth

  • What are you thinking when you are listening to yourself sing? Like when the radio people were playing your songs, whats going on in your head? Are you interested in what they think of it or are you busy just analyzing it?

Thanks as always for reading/answering our questions! Stacy :-)

  • I've forwarded this to several friends, the consensus is clear - Sam you need your own talk show PERIOD!

  • Sam,

I really think you should consider a 'Doodletown Pipers sing The Mamie Lee Songbook'. Please make it a double CD and don't leave out anything.

    your friend,

    Chris VonTanner

  • ahhhhhhh....thanks.

  • Oh. You get to go on radio. Lucky you.

Not a very funny vlog though.

I always expected some humour out of your vlogs.

  • Wow, Sam...that was a fascinating and wonderful vlog today. Thank you! It is so much fun to hear you talking about your friends and work and the business. I kept waiting for the radio people to find out they left dead air playing while they were talking with you. :D

  • what would life be like without curiosity? we remain stagnant, and stop growing and learning. i loved this vlog sam. i loved watching you listening so intensely to your music. your passion is so palpable, that it gave me the chills. thank you for sharing these great moments with us. for each one we see, we are able to see a thoughtful and most extraordinary person. all my best, vicki

  • Thank you aumusicman. That makes sense. One more question. What is that amazing song that Sam is listening to himself sing? I thought I had all Sam's cds but I've never heard this song. What cd is it on? Or what's it called so I can itunes it?

  • The song is "I Don't Want to Know" by Jerry Herman from the musical "Dear World" (about the mad woman of Chaillot) It can be found on "Tap Your Troubles Away" CD which Sam is a guest on - recorded live. Worth listening to - his version is a spectacular and singular arrangement. - Webmaster

  • Last line is, "All of the great people remain Curious." Meaning, never give up the desire to learn.

  • What's the last line? Anybody? "All of the great people remain __________" What's he saying? I love this vlog. It's funny. Really funny. And then watching his face listening with such intensity to his music is incredible. And hearing him say he was depressed during Pippin and it wasn't his best work. Sam is so human on these. It's really amazing. But what's the last line???!!

  • Sam,always a hilariously entertaining Mensch.
