It is a form of metal even if you must call it nu-metal or alternative-metal. It might not be heavy metal, or death metal, or black metal but that doesn't mean its not a form of it. Most music genres are described more by vibe and emotion of song rather then how much noise exist in it. Example. A black girl with a strong voice and the right passion can be an alternative rock singer while still sounding like shes a soul singer just with a little edge
