i agree! fitness is not all about the knowledge about nutrients and how the body works. everyone has a different body that will require different workouts. Being a personal trainer should require that he or she is in shape. Just like cops that go through training with being attack by dogs or pepper sprayed, personal trainers should be fit themselves.
I disagree, just because someone is out of shape doesnt mean they arent educated about fitness. Maybe they just dont have the time to workout or the money to eat right.
Just going to say that you don't need to be in shape to be a good PT. That is along the same lines as saying Tiger Woods' coach needs to be better at golf in order for Tiger to benefit..not true. You can know very much about physical fitness and training people, but just not do it yourself. That doesn't mean you know any less about the topic as a fit trainer whatsoever.. I do agree that getting clients would be extremely difficult however, and that you may look better suited for diff job
Yeah. I work as a personal trainer and there are sometimes trainers who are out of shape. You can know the fundamentals about personal training and be certified without actually being fit but unless you practice what you preach it's going to get clients to take you seriously.
I agree...Well...when you say out of shape...it sounds like the trainer is morbidly obese...even ex powerlifters or ex bodybuilders has the mass and shape...but less definition..and to me they are still very much acceptable as personal trainers. What he's maybe trying to say is that....ok...imagine Nutty Professor claiming to be a personal trainer...would you agree? lol
maybe the personal trainer was way heavier like 500lbs and is now at 300lbs. If thats the case then hes a good personal trainer. Btw im a personal trainer thats in excellent shape but there are many that are out of shape that are excellent trainers. Maybe this trainer has a thyroid condition or had a injury and cant workout. I believe in following by example and youre right but if you didnt ask him questions about his weight dont question his methods without the truth
sooo true. theres a couple at my gym, when i first started going i just didnt understand it. like they look like theyd lose breath goin up the stairs. ive never used a personal trainer, but if i did i wouldnt want to go to someone who was a tub of lard
I've seen a fat trainer at my Gym, I heard him say that even though he was out of shape and in bad condition, he didn't want people to get in bad shape like him and wants to help out. He knows how to do every exercise well, the motion, etc. He's a very good trainer with a good intention but not a good physique. It really depends.
Worst I've seen is a PT that was a smoker and used to drink a large thick shake in front of clients Every arvo. She was in good shape but god she was an idiot
i agree it does look bad for a pt or gi to be fat, but they might know the theory behind what they teach as good as anyone, but then again its like a doctor telling you to stop smoking but then you see them coughing up a lung with a cig in the mouth outside the surgery :P
Good point. You can have all the knowledge in the world about health and fitness, but if you don't look like you practice what you preach, people won't listen to you and as a personal trainer, you are selling yourself to the public.
Love your voice.
