I remember this demo, yeeeears ago I found it at soulseek, but my hard disk died and I was trying to download it again and nobody believe me that there was a version of this song by Bono xD
This is pretty hard to listen to. Tina turner's version is great. I'd love to have heard what Shirley Bassey could have done, but she'd doneso many Bond themes already...
Bono and The Edge are the greatest songwriters of our generation. B-Man really knows how to write to other people's voices/strengths, even when his own voice isn't 100% suited for the material. He's truly gifted, a musical genius!

I think it sounds the way it does because it Bono and Edge wrote the song for Tina, and her register. So Bono can´t really use his voice the way he usually does. This is...i guess....just a demo. Just to show her his thoughts on how the lyrics sould be sung.

I love Bono but I'm grateful they didn't use this version of the song in the movie, or else Bono and U2 might have fallen prey to the infamous 007 curse that ends the careers of all the artist who do record a Bond theme! lol! Thank god U2 lived to play another day!
Both versions are great...but I feel like the Tina Turner one is a tad darker (I can't figure why...this one seems like it would resonate darker with me, but it doesn't.) which worked better for me in the end. Great song either way
but still i think a good bond theme leaves you humming the tune on the way to your car outside the cinema, and the Turner one does that, though a proper version would be great.

Thanks (there's another demo???)

Neat, but I can see why Tina Turner sang this song and not Bono. :/
JamesBLonde0059 1 year ago 3
@JamesBLonde0059 they wrote the song specifically for her so obviously he sang it in a way that ina Turner would/should sing it.

@jordanlee24 its mr macphisto. An alter ego of bono who used to call presidents in early nineties live at concerts
TheAmiyakumar 2 years ago
This feels more like Bono imitating Shirley Bassey than him actually singing.

I want tina and bono singing this song together one day....

LOL..Turner copied MacPhisto, her version is exactly the same!

Tina Turner's vocals are much more in line with the Bond franchise, louder, bolder and brasher. Great lyrics, but I think it's Tina's song to sing.

I agree! :P
She has added more power and feelings to it too I think :D

I think what actually happens is that they take artists who are already at their top anyway.

You're wrong! It's not Bono singing, but Mr. McPhisto, can't you see?? It's the only studio recording of McPhisto's voice!

Yeap, indeed, that's not Bono by the microphone, it's mr. McPhisto! :)

Bono just professed his secret crush on James Bond over MIDI instruments.

I always wanted to know if Bono made a version of his song, interesting difference from the original! It doesn't even sound like Bono.
