The F-14, one of the best planes we've built in recent history. But does the brass care? No. They'd prefer to waste money building new planes that we don't need, instead of simply upgrading the ones we already have, wich would cost less.

@DashPronger @DashPronger The F-14 can only be upgraded so much before it becomes obsolete, and it was taken out of service because of it's high maintenance costs and was replaced by a more cost effective plane, the F-18 has lower maintenance costs, and is a multirole aircraft, instead of just a fighter, with the F-14 you needed another plane to fill the ground attack role, the F-18 easily handles both air superiority/interceptor and ground attack roles.

@Nogoalov02 You may wanna look that up, buddy. The tomcat was designated to the bomber roll during the first gulf war because it didn't have IFF. That is why the F-15 has such a high kill rate. It was one of the only fighters that didn't have to rely on the AWACS to guide it to its target. The tomcat was about to be phased out early because of that fact. Then they gave it IFF and several other upgrades. Including the ability to drop laser guided BOMBS.

Even if the russian fighter jets are not as good as the american fighter planes, they still are so bad ass. I think the biggest factor between which plane is better, is the pilot.

I played online once with an F-18C and I knew I was no match for my foe's Su-47 or his skill at high flying fights. So I used my plane's small size combined with my dangerously high skill at flying and fighting ultra low, and lead him on canyon chase telling, "I'm not coming out of the canyon, come and get me" and all I had to do was fly fast and avoid walls until he crashed into a wall.

Hmm against an F18C your opponent would have been better climbing and then stooping down like a bird of prey or bearing in mind the piss poor range of the c model hornet just buzz around till you run out of fuel and dropped like a stone.

In a close range dogfight, the F-14 would win due to its manuverability. The F-15 was designed to be an Air Superiority plane, engaging with long range missiles. The F-14 was meant to do dogfighting over sea. However, between the F-16 and F-14, in a down and dirty fight you can't match the F-16.

@LordKylar I disagree, the F-14 (for me) would be a nightmare in close combat in AC6. The spec weapons are medium-long and the speed (though immense) means that it's turning circle is too wide. The Sukoi or the F-16 would be my choice for up close and personal.

@ferahgo90 well if you look at what the F-14 was when it was still in service it was the navy's only interceptor, not only for other jets/planes but as well as missiles. That's why it was so fast, and in my thought shouldn't have been replaced with the F/A-18. So all the medium-long range weapons all make sense when you look at it from it's job in the US Navy.

@lotrfan8888 where did u get ur figures from? the one's i saw wer 30-45 miles. Where as the AIM-54C Pheonix's range was 115 miles. equip it on a F-14 and it was capable of striking cruise missiles far from a carrier fleet or any other HVA the military may possess.

My info came from the wikipedia page on the AIM-120, so I guess there could be some problems there. But in the section near the bottom called "similarly armed targets" it states that when the AIM-120 D is deployed it will have 30+ miles more range than the Russian R-77 "Adder" missile, which has a range of about 60 miles.

I do concede that the Pheonix probably had more range than the new AMRAAM will, but the F-14 didn't have the IFF capabilities to strike at BVR, and the new Super Hornets do.

This is because modern fighter planes (like the Eurofighter or F-22) are disgined to be Aerodynamically unstable so they can pull off all those high G moves. Also the pilots of the Eurofighter have the wear G suites otherwise there bodies would not take the G Froces.

It is impossible to fly with the computers, it's not that, it's just a human can respond quick enough and with the amount of reactions required to keep that bird in the air. It's front wings are constantly making adjustments to keep it as stable as possible

They are the company that did the ACE combat series said that they are going to continue with the games in a press release a while ago. I think it was in July of 200. No detail of console or story line. My option is that they are waiting till there are some newer fighter craft. Probably by 2009 or 2010. I don't mind waiting that long for a good game
