I was playing this vinyl record in my brother's audiophile stereo and I got the bug to find the solo to learn it - and wham-o! there it is. A very authoritative version of it, almost blessed by the very Joaquín Liévano whom I saw playing it live in Austin, Texas way back when JLP was touring there. Thanks a lot! Now, where is the half-speed control in YouTube? ;-)
I've been trying to learn that solo for years. I never will play as well as Joaquin on the guitar, but I kicked his ass on the racquetball court in 1984. I had him running around like a scared goat! Then I went to see his band in SFO and he kicked my ass right back to the power of ten. When he gets good enough to beat me at racquetball I'll get good enough to beat him on the guitar (yeah, fat chance!) Well done, you have my admiration. -- Nick, who was Ed Marshall's pal, who was Joaquin's pal
I play drums and our guitar player also was hooked by this technical solo, however i thought that this solo was play by Peter Maunu ?? Fantactic solo, supreme done.
Just stopped back to make a correction. It was Joaquin Lievano that played the live solo I was referring to. It was from the Jean Luc Ponty live album from 1979. That is a monster solo and version of ''Egocentric Molecules''
Very well done! Love this song and solo. Also loved the solo from the live version of this song, which I believe Jaime Glaser played. They say " Highway Star '' from Deep Purple is a great song to drive to. You'll drive your car off a cliff listening to this(LOL)
destroyed many vinyl copies of this album practising to every song! never took the time to learn any of the solos though... i liked practicing to 'ethereal mood' and 'don't let the world pass you buy'
Nice job. I'm actually working on this solo myself. It's interesting that you are using slightly different hand positions than I am at times. I think yours might be more correct. Very nicely done. A solo well worth learning! Excellent choice and great job!
great work man ^^ Nice!

Allan Holdsworth is my favorite guitar player of all time...seen him play live a number of times.
But I MUST say that even the great 'AH' can't touch Joaquin Lievano's solos on "The Art of Happiness" and this song.

The soloist on the "Cosmic Messenger" album/CD, performing the "Egocentric Molecules guitar solo, would have been Joaquin Lievano.
You did a great job on this!
