Dear Jebus, I was a Freshman in high school in 1995, and these songs were a part of that life. Thank you for the wonderful trip back to a better time for me!
It seems ever since 1993 came, most black musicians cracked the top 50 of the hot 100. Damn. I finally remember. Hip Hop & R&B were popular in mainstream between 1993-1996.
@pivoteer971 not awkward at all, sign of the times, the urban artists were killing the mainstream and grunge was running it's course but got little airplay
@pivoteer971 There were very few White Singers in the Charts during the 90s and 00s. Its only been recently that White singers have been starting to dominate the charts again, and actually 2011 was one of the Whitest years in the charts since the 80s.
aww mj made the list, i wasn't expcting it, since many said his album flopped in usa...you are not alone is his weakest from history though, but still an amazing song..
Great memories 1995!I am 43 now back then I was 27.Loved my years in College and listening to all those great songs that made the charts!!Wonderful days those were!!:-)
I don't understand why people are surprised that there are so many Black artists in 1995. Black artists dominated the charts throughout most of the 90s and 00s. It was only in 2008 or so when Black artists dominance started to fade but they still dominated 2008- 2010 some what. But it has really been this year 2011 that Black artists have completely stopped dominating the charts.

1992 is the last year when white outnumbered a bit black in Billboard top20. So black took the lead In Billboard charts since 1993 up till now, though the amount of urban music decreased somewhere since 2006. The most urban years in Billboard charts were 2003-2004, there used to be 3-4 non-black songs in top 20 for many weeks. Also 1999 and 2000 were exceptions, in those years there was a revival of alternative and pop. Hope, I answered your question.
Loved ! Good work ! I was born this year, good songs, B.I.G., Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Madonna, TLC, Mariah and Other Good Work ! U have other years ?
@BillboardGoddess are you planning on making a new one anytime soon? when can we expect another throwback video? just want to know, 'cause i really love these vids.
"i got 5 on it," "you are not alone," "freak like me," "fantasy," "on bended knee," "kiss from a rose," "creep," "waterfalls," "gangsta's paradise": CLASSICS
haha, i also love how really trashy dance acts like nicki french and the real mccoy were so successful!
@ScorpioAndHisMusic actually, it is a representation of the most popular songs. whether or not, you agree, or what pop radio played, rap and r & b pretty much dominated in terms of sales, and popularity throughout the 90's, rock music didn't sell as much despite being the grunge era. i think the only song that should have been on this countdown, but didn't due to the chart rules then was I'll Be There For You, which topped the Airplay charts. other than that, the rest of this list is accurate.
god 90s music is such shit. i love these top 50 singles of the week AND the yearly ones (billboard godess is awesome) but jesus fucking christ how shitty were all of these songs lol. 95 shitty year.. scratch that, 90s music just blows hard in general
@90sandearly00srule3 youre actually an idiot. who said i liked music today? you just assumed i did because you wanted to troll. actually, i'm more of a classic rock fan. although, in general i like pretty much all genres of music- except the 90s. literally every single kind- rap, death metal, classic rock, jazz, reggae, modern pop, country.. i just hate the 90s. because theres no skill and the music is just fake
@PenaltyKillah just to let you know, i was born in '85, i grew up in the 90's, i wasn't born in those times. but, yeah, i really enjoyed 90's music. i'm a huge 90's fan.
@90sandearly00srule3 I also grew up in the nineties as well. That's why this music speaks so much to me. It was so much easier for a ballad to top the charts and these songs had so much meaning. Of course my favorite has to be "Colors of the Wind" by Vanessa Williams... but I also remember songs like "Waterfalls" and "I Believe" that really resonated with me and sometimes bring me to tears. But yes.. it was a very R&B heavy decade.
@BillboardGoddessmy favorite of this list is easily "This Is How We Do It". well, lucky for me, rap and r & b is the music i predominantly listen to, especially the 90's ones. unlike most of the people here, i know all 50 of the songs here, that's a rarity, and even more shocking i liked 45 of the 50, something that i can't say about the top 50 of today, i like a few, but i felt music mostly lost its meaning. thanks for the video, keep making the old school year end ones.
Back in the 90s, country singles were ONLY released to country radio. Billboard had a rule restricting airplay-only songs -
Which was why 95% of country songs never charted on the Hot 100 back then, as well as AC radio staples like No Doubt's Don't Speak, Natalie Imbruglia's Torn & Goo Goo Dolls' Iris.
Now that Billboard has lifted that restriction, and with the advent of iTunes, we now have country music and "I'm Yours" clones everywhere muhaha
@PenaltyKillah YOU say this? You have always been one of my favorite channels on youtube ... and you think that "I'm Yours" is a country song??? it's a indie pop rock song.
@ihavevocaloid If you read carefully, I was definitely NOT thinking of "I'm Yours" as a country song...
I compared "I'm Yours" to the other AC radio staples (Don't Speak, Torn, Iris) which are also pop rock. Since then, many songs have followed the trend of I'm Yours, including Hey, Soul Sister, Stay the Night and Keep Your Head Up - all also with AC radio airplay - I just called it "I'm Yours clones".
@BillboardGoddess yeah, what people don't realize is that the Billboard charts have been black dominated year up until 2008, when Flo-Rida score the #1 song for "Low". since 1992, the Billboard charts were mostly filled with rap and r & b songs because those genres took over the mainstream. outside of that, pop was mostly either ballads, rock songs, or house techno until the whole bubblegum pop craze of the late 90's came. only since '09 has the Billboard gone back to being mostly pop.
@reekoolibr if you think that, just wait until 10 to 15 years from now. they'll say the same thing about today's music, that you're saying now. at least real talent was being played, and trust me, there are many people who still remember these songs.
@90sandearly00srule3 yeah , im not trying to bring this down, since before till now still listened to real and good music even oldies music . im just telling that not all are my genres .. but my previous comment wasnt that negative . sorry though .
@PilotOfTime because back in the 90's, black music was extremely popular (and better in quality and talent), that when urban music really became a part of pop culture. rap and r & b were at the top of the game in those times, trust me, i grew up in the 90's. now, not so much.
@jay144k are you kidding me? the 90's were legendary compared to new music. if you don't like the 90's whatever is your opinion, but saying the 90's were worse than now, is just plain stupidity, back then, real talent was played, and there was no auto-tune, or generic, repetitive music. and you say the 90's were worse? get out. it wasn't about looks, or just catchy dance beats, it was about whether or not you had talent, although for the late portion of the decade, i can't say much of the same.
@90sandearly00srule3 i'm not big into auto tune and I hate anything overly repetitive. But I don't like most 90's music. It isn't the talent it is the style i don't like. Also auto tune came in mid 90's and was used in many songs. And song editing has been around longer than that.
Wow I feel really old. I was already 11 when these songs came out and I remember most of them. This is right around the time I started to listen to the radio. I had Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Sheryl Crow, and Hootie Cassettes.
I hope you make more of these! They were really enjoyable. I was only 5 when these songs came out, so it's nice to hear them again and see who actually sang them
@2r3notgoodas1 yes, it was. the Billboard chart clearly says it. it made history by becoming the first ever rap song top the Billboard year end charts, only 50 Cent and Flo-Rida (if you want to even call him a rapper), were the only other 2 rappers to have the top singles of a year on the Billboard charts.and that song is a classic. that song was off the hook.
there were better 90 bands out there like metallica nirvana Beastie Boys Oasis Dream Theater Megadeth etc, the music that Billboards put on here is shit
Dear Jebus, I was a Freshman in high school in 1995, and these songs were a part of that life. Thank you for the wonderful trip back to a better time for me!

90's music sucked. very few listenable songs.
jay144k 6 months ago
@jay144k What did you expect? Pop music is pop music, today or back then.
TRiLLSiPPiN 6 months ago
@jay144k you obviously don't know real music when you hear it. today's music is hardly what i would call listenable.
90sandearly00srule3 6 months ago
@90sandearly00srule3 I don't like many songs today, but the 90's were worse.
jay144k 5 months ago
@jay144k are you kidding me? the 90's were legendary compared to new music. if you don't like the 90's whatever is your opinion, but saying the 90's were worse than now, is just plain stupidity, back then, real talent was played, and there was no auto-tune, or generic, repetitive music. and you say the 90's were worse? get out. it wasn't about looks, or just catchy dance beats, it was about whether or not you had talent, although for the late portion of the decade, i can't say much of the same.
90sandearly00srule3 5 months ago
@90sandearly00srule3 i'm not big into auto tune and I hate anything overly repetitive. But I don't like most 90's music. It isn't the talent it is the style i don't like. Also auto tune came in mid 90's and was used in many songs. And song editing has been around longer than that.

@90sandearly00srule3 but I do like number 1. Though I must admit I heard Weird A's parody first.

Wow I feel really old. I was already 11 when these songs came out and I remember most of them. This is right around the time I started to listen to the radio. I had Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Sheryl Crow, and Hootie Cassettes.

i dont think coolio was the chart toper of 1995. but still good list.
2r3notgoodas1 6 months ago
@2r3notgoodas1 yes, it was. the Billboard chart clearly says it. it made history by becoming the first ever rap song top the Billboard year end charts, only 50 Cent and Flo-Rida (if you want to even call him a rapper), were the only other 2 rappers to have the top singles of a year on the Billboard charts.and that song is a classic. that song was off the hook.
