@cpukid00 can i run it on a dh55tc motherboard and a qori cpu case with a 350W PSU or should i change the cabinet? Im not much of a computer person. So plz let me know
@Camel23465 You'll be able to power the card, but depending on what other hardware you have, I'd consider getting a 600W+ power supply to have some room.
@ruffino77022 As long as you're using the Chimera boot loader, it's plug and play. If you're installing it for use in Windows, you'll need drivers from the included CD or from their site.
@KillTheCreeper You'll probably need a more powerful power supply for a crossfire configuration with this card. That's cutting it pretty close. If you plan on doing this in a hackintosh configuration, then you'll need to research to ensure compatibility.
i'm getting this graphics card tomorrow, and i was wondering if I should get an adapter to connect to the card and then run a cable to connect my card to my monitor?
or will it be fine if I just install it and don't connect it to my monitor?
I bought the adapter today, but i forgot to buy the cable, so i was wondering what's better?
@cpukid00 : Hi, i would like to know if this card fits in a normal case. Because i am looking at this card and i can see that the panel with the DVI is wider. So i want to know if it will fit behind my case, because i have one opening in the case panel behind. Sorry for bad english.Thank you
@Masterincommander I believe the 6870 may support 3 displays a little easier, but I'm not sure about how much better the tech specs are. You'd have to research a little bit.
@NoConfliction iOS? XDDD Are you kidding me? I use my mac for work and little gaming.
iOS has no real desktop games for it. My Mac Pro is freaking fast with my HD 6770 and 4 gigs of ram. I can run every game in high settings. And it does not lag. Also i already have an iPad and a iPhone. Im perfectly fine with my Mac Pro.
@cpukid00 Hi! I just want to know if this video card fits in a basic case and if a 450W source is sufficient? The motherboard is also from Gigabyte and it's the one from Inter Core i3, i5, i7 so i guess there's not a problem with this. Can you help me please?
@cpukid00 Thanks, really appreciate because you answered me. One more question if you don't mind. What's the difference between Sapphire HD 6850 and Gigabyte HD 6850, I mean, basically they are same cards, only manufacturers are different. The price is very similar. Some say that Sapphire are best manufacturer and others it doesn't matter the manufacturer unless it's no-name.
@at0micmushroom There's only subtle differences between the cards. They use the same GPU, but some cards might not work as well as others due to the default frame buffers. Luckily, Chimera can take care of most of this. Just do your research before buying. I have no experience with Sapphire, but I've heard good things.
@MXR789 That would work. However, keep in mind that if you go with the HDMI then you'll need to change your default frame buffer to use HDMI in OS X. This isn't hard, but you have to know how to do it. If you get a Displayport to DVI cable/converter, then this won't be necessary. Thanks for subscribing!
@cpukid00 Oh, in that case I will probably get a display port to DVI as I will use the top DVI for my main display. I assume I will get 1920 by 1080 through both connections. Thanks for your help.
nice vid, i just built a compputer a few minutes ago, and i cant seem to get the video card working. I would try without it, but thats the only output to the screen... I have doen everything in the video starting from putting the video card in(and plugging it in) but the fans will not even turn on. any ideas?
Thanks for your video. I've built my first hackintosh and it's not running... I can't even get to the BIOS screen. So I've been troubleshooting for a little while now. I definitely installed my 6850 properly, the fans are working and everything. And the motherboard itself only turns on for a few seconds and then shuts off. I've ruled out everything else. It's either a bad motherboard or power supply.
Nice video, I'm going to upgrade to this card at christmas, I'm ATI at the moment and I'm planing on keeping with ATI and, would it just boot normally because I'm putting another ati card it or will I have to do the thing you were saying about because you have moved to ati from Nivda?
@GungraveZ1 It would all depend on your bootloader and/or any kexts that you use to get your current ATI card booting. I don't believe you need any kexts with ATI cards, as most should work as long as GE=Yes in your boot.plist. If I were you, I'd install the Chimera bootloader on your system now, see how your card performs, and once you get it working, then you won't have any work to do to upgrade to this card. You will be able to install the card and enjoy.
@cpukid00 question..is this card good? i mean by the quality speed, and customer service? also will it fit in my small 17 cm width 41.0 dimension and around 30 hight
On AMD's website it says that two "75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors" are recommended and I saw you only plug in one power connecter. I'm pretty clueless about this stuff, but you only plugged in one. Or is that one you plugged in not the PCI express?
I was considering buying a GTX 560 TI for a future hackintosh untl I saw your unboxing of this video card. I really want to get the 6850, but I have 2 questions: 1. do hackintoshes support this card using tonymacs86's method or do you have to modify kexts and other stuff? 2. could you PLEASE post a video on how to remodify the drivers, or basically how to switch from a card to another? you got my subscription bud, keep up the good work. literally my favourite hackintosher on youtube :)
@TwoPlusFourIsSe7en Thanks for the kind words! This card requires absolutely no modifications to kexts. As long as you have Chimera installed and your GE=Yes in your boot.plist, this card works out of the box!
Really? Wow. So Chameleon will not work? Can I just install Chimera from multibeast now or must I reinstall OS X? Sorry for the bother Bud, its just that I spent a whole weekend trying to get my previous 5770 to work. Never happened :(
@nvanadium You don't have to reinstall; me having to was a special case. Simply run MultiBeast, Change GE back to Yes, and reboot. Keep in mind you can only use the top DVI and the Displayport.
@cpukid00 Thanks for the quick replies man. Going to give it a whirl right now as soon as I'm done backing up. Can't wait to boot into Windows and play Battlefield 3 with this new card : )
@cpukid00 I have a hd 6670 , and i am i planning on replacing that with the card you just got the 6850 . Will i have to do anything other switch it over. As in will i have to reinstall windows 7 or get a display port cable ? Thanks :D hopefully it will work right out of the box :D
@divenutslincoln If you run a hackintosh with dual monitors, then you'll need a displayport cable. If you have a hackintosh, you might need to do a restore based on the card before the upgrade, as well as the bootloader you're using. Since you had a 6670, you should be good to go as long as you have Chimera installed and have GE=Yes in your boot.plist.
Hey there. I just popped in my new 6850 in to my hackintosh. I had to type GraphicsEnabler=No To get it to show display. You said that you need to do a reinstall. What mutibeast options do I need to put to get this to run fully?
@oskolic Try looking on YouTube for AMD Radeon HD 6850 GTA IV or Crysis 2. I'm sure people have done videos on it. Personally I haven't tried those games, but I can imagine this card can run them pretty close to, if not maxed out.
