The ferries bring visitors to the island all day long. At the dock workers scurry to unload bicycles. Then foot passengers depart, and if they wish they may pick a bicycle for their tour. They hear the gentle rub of tyres, the click of cogs and gears around the streets smooth and flat, and the clop of heavy hooves, a soothing, meditative rhythm.
“This is a living history museum,” says Damon, “and I feel like I am living in history as I walk down this incredible street, like we are living 100 years ago. This is how you learn about history, by living inside it, but in the present!”
@healthy777 Depends on what you're looking for, if you're looking for Cedar Point or Disney World, then you wouldn't like it. But if you want some breathtaking scenery and a history lesson plus some good food and fudge, then yeah come on up!
Was there in 1994 for a week. The Movie "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeves was partially filmed on the Island. Most romantic time of my life.
im sorry but i worked and lived on mackinac island for 7 years. i worked for the service company, aka carriage tours. i didnt give tours instead i dilivered anything and everything to hotels, businesses, construction crews, waste management, and to personal homes. ive been everywhere on that island, and did everything threre was to do. but there are cars on that island ive ridden in them. there are police, abulence, firetruck, regular trucks and dump trucks. sorry to dissapoint
@TheTiananmenMan1 yeah I grew up in Mid Michigan and went on vacation there twice. My second time there I did catch a glimpse of an emergency vehicle driving. It was somewhat disappointing, but understandable. Still, it's rare that you see those and it adds to the illusion of the past. I love the horses and bicycles everywhere. It's a beautiful, peaceful place to vacation.
Mackinac Island has no "w" as the video states, only the "city" Mackinaw City, MI. I went to Mackinac Island in 1997- after seeing Somewhere in Time- and it was exactly wha tthe movie portrayed..and I also named my daughter after Jane Seymour's I will always keep copies of this movie.
Ferry to Mackinac Island, no cars only bicycles. The popular activity of shopping, sightseeing old forts, pageant of cannons, important reminders of history - time capsule tourism, French, British, American past life at the pace of horse drawn carts, sun infused shine on flanks, smell of animals, gunpowder, musty cryogenics of preserved class rooms, stores of manikins fixed behind sturdy counters. The swishing bikes round the smooth island circuit, the occasional report of nostalgic rifles.
Many people come and get drunk, then pass out

great videos, last time i checked you had 327 videos, now you have 328.
everyday i always visit your youtube page to see if you upload a new video.
i hope you'll post intensive tutorial about: "has, have, had"..
i already watched your video about HAS, HAVE, HAD but i'm still confused between:
" i HAVE HAD think of it" and " i HAD HAD think of it"..
sorry if my grammar is wrong but my real concern is why there are some sentences having two "HAD? " thanks paul

Mackinaw island is amazing. It feels like you traveled back in time before cars were invented.

They also have an airport, and in the winter you can get there over the ice.
