In 1970, Patrick and Robben Ford decided it was time to leave Charlie Musselwhite's band and start up their own unit. They called on long time friend Stan Poplin to join them on bass and the youngest Ford brother Mark to play harp. This was a four piece blues band that was to have a lasting impact on the modern blues scene and proved to be only the beginning of four solid and successful careers. The band was named the Charles Ford Band after the father of the three brothers.
For those that don't know, the reason for the Reunion album was because Robben and Pat dumped Mark to join the Charlie Musselwhite band in the mid 70's. The original Charles Ford Band record was released in 1972 and is a fine addition to any ones Blues collection.
I had the first Charles Ford Band Reunion album on vinyl back in the 80's and these guys blew my socks off then and still do. And to think they've only gotten better. Whoa!
This is great! The Ford Family is such a great part of being in California. These guys have it in their blood! Looking forward to seeing them in SAC on April1!
