Hunting is good on so many levels. The least likely understood is that you have to cull. When you don't, you get scrub grass and dirt, and an epidemic of starving and suffering animals. That's one of the things that African wild life preserves provide. And yes, they cull herds with scheduled big game hunts. Ted is a wildman, he's not everyone's cup of tea. But he's right on here.

What you are referring to though, is not done on the part of the Alaskan Tundra where this was filmed. Second - the weapon was sighted in but if you watched the show you would know that the dad fell while holding the rifle and this is probably what knocked the scope off.
Finally, the shooter was very capable as she took the backup 7mm mag, a larger caliber rifle, and made a one shot kill.

Hunting is good on so many levels. The least likely understood is that you have to cull. When you don't, you get scrub grass and dirt, and an epidemic of starving and suffering animals. That's one of the things that African wild life preserves provide. And yes, they cull herds with scheduled big game hunts. Ted is a wildman, he's not everyone's cup of tea. But he's right on here.

I don’t think it’s a necessity for people like the Ted Nugent’s and the Sarah Palin’s of the world to hunt. These people are wealthy enough to pay for others to shop and cook for them. It’s a sport of killing for them; and even though they might keep the meat while making it harder for other who might need to do this. (Hunt) I would say there isn’t enough for 7 billion people all with guns.

@practicalwhacktical in my experience the only thing that will drop an animal in it's tracks every time is a head shot. A shot to the vitals will usually send an animal running until it bleeds out. I'm not saying drop shots don't happen, but they are damn rare and your telling me she got one, with a front on shot and it wasn't a head shot? Right...

There are multiple hits that will drop an animal in it's tracks including neck shots, spine shots and vitals shots that also hit the spine. If you watched this episode she shot the caribou into the front of it's chest and when they were cutting the meat later, you could see the exit wound up near the spine.

There is no way you shoot at a Caribou, or any animal, that many times without scaring it off. Was obviously set up.

Second - Canned hunting requires the installation and maintenance of a high fence, which is not economically feasible on the Northern Tundra - thus it doesn't exist. Canned hunting doesn't require the installation of a high fence you dope, it can be anything from a fence to having a long rope attached to the animal, it's a term used to describe a fixed hunt-which can be done in more than one way if you use your head or history and aren't just googling definitions. By the way, if this was a canned hunt - why did she get such a small caribou? Why not a trophy? Why did the other guy get a trophy and not her?

@practicalwhacktical Canned hunting is a semi-modern term used to describe a practice that has been going on for centuries in various forms. I don't know what is so hard to get about that for you, but I can't change something's name just because you don't know what it means. I could refer to it as a "fixed hunt" though if you're really having a hard time with the term.

@PossessDismiss I know what you're talking about. Old Stone Fence is a preserve in northern New York state that does exactly what you're talking about. What you are referring to though, is not done on the part of the Alaskan Tundra where this was filmed. It's too remote and not feasible, not to mention there would be no profit in it because of the amount of free ranging caribou. You have no facts to back up your argument.

Yea, many of us still hunt, but the caribou hunt Ms. Palin went on pretty much proves she isn't one of us hunters. If you can't even operate the action of your firearm you're not a hunter, and really aren't even a shooter. Then there's the ethical question of entering the field without sighting in the weapon and knowing the capabilities of the shooter/weapon combo. It appear Sarah Palin is a fraud when it comes to the outdoor aspect of her persona. Her own video brings this into question. Sad!

@poorsportsman She did operate the action of the rifle at one point. Her dad just kept jumping in to do it. It's called a dad getting excited about hunting with his little girl.
Second - the weapon was sighted in but if you watched the show you would know that the dad fell while holding the rifle and this is probably what knocked the scope off.
Finally, the shooter was very capable as she took the backup 7mm mag, a larger caliber rifle, and made a one shot kill.

How could Sarah be a hero when she presents herself as an average person? Rallying political retards equals heroism now? Nonetheless, Ted thinks she's a hero, because he (very poorly) shot a deer. That's amazing Ted, such enlightment, have a lobotomy, shoot deer and be an all American hero.
