@GEO3535 when it needs it, its a wear and tear item, the amount of time and milage can vary depnding on road and eather conditions, type and amount of lube, type of use the bike is under and also quality of chain.
dont forget that sprockets wear out too and sometime will need replacing before the chain, how ever both sprockets and chain must be changed as a set
