Display Zune on TV without the dock (part 1)

Have to say, I had zune and ipods in the past and perfer the zune by far. Besides the larger screen, when it comes to music I totally dig the play next featur so I don't have to sacrifice the music shuffle.

@andrewboy402 Microsoft made it so that the conventional cable setup doesnt work. This a a trick to get you to but the AV dock. If you try color to color it wont work.

How does the radio function work with this? Does it need headphones or it will play and display on screen as the other functions do.

The radio works fine. on the new zune HD the headphones are the receiver for the radio.

Yes I just tried it, it works on all the zunes but the zune HD (im guessing) because you need the headphones. But the zune 80 & 120 work.

well actually i think the color order is needed, because then if you get it backwards, the right channel will come out of your left speaker and vice versa.

I dont know about 2nd gen but if you have a classic or a "video" then it will work. its worth a try they are only like $2 cables. **note that the ipod can only display video and not the entire screen like the zune**

Hey i have a zune 120 gig and i try it with a zune dock and regular av cable the video works just only in black and white and the audio dosnt work its just a buzing noise what is wrong?

The home av pack is actually $59.99, the 3 dollar cable does the some thing as the dock. You can also buy the $2.99 charger or the $4.00 remote if you really want to. When it comes right down to it I would rather pay <$9.99 then pay $59.99 for something that does the exact same thing.

No "dummy" it doesnt work that way, just leave this stuff to the people who know what they are talking about. You cant just plug them all in to the same slots it doesnt display a zune or an Ipod that way

gobo, you are wrong... Yellow gives video, Red and White give audio... if you plug yellow in white, it wont work because it will try to take audio waves and there arent any audio waves in video waves and it is like using a TV remote for your phone.

I know, yellow gives video, but it is different for the zune. It will not display unless you do it the way I showed you in the video, I guarantee you.

for $5 just ask for a 3.5mm jack to av out and if u live in Europe or Asia it has to be on pal not ntsc

I used the colors that are suggested, they are not all wrong, but they all work. I have leaned that the red cable must go into the yellow (because thats the video output and it will not work any other way)but the other ones are just audio and can be switched between the two as much as you like, i just did it that way so people wouldnt get confused. But what jerry800 said is correct about Microsoft and apple products.

The reason is because microsoft along with apple have switched the rings inside the device to prevent third party accessories from making products without licensing but there is an easy oblivious workaround, just switch the yellow and red ones.
