DAMN hearing about turbulence is one thing, but seeing those wings flapping with those shaking and roaring sounds and those looming dark clouds give it a very SCARY feeling as if one's life really hangs in the balance during those fateful moments!
@CX135pilot: I have no idea, it was more of a joke than anything. being a frequent passenger on airliners, I know the flight attendant always announces to turn off anything with an on/off switch. I'm not an electronics guy, but I can only assume that they have a reason for doing so....
I think it has been asked before, but was that a tornado forming right around 2:20? Sure as heck looks like one, and that could be the reason for the wind shear...
Most people on youtube post videos of "scary turbulence" and its a video of what would be moderate or even light chop in a 152. You, however, actually captured some serious turbulence. Thanks for posting!
what was so bad about this? This was not the pilot or plane's fault, the weather was pretty bad. The pilot made a decision to go into a holding pattern to allow the weather to improve, because he didn't like the way it felt on the first approach. You should be happy about this, not sad. It's when pilots force landings that planes crash and people die.
@tinaw1969 Because this damn aircraft did a go around due to the weather and for the safety of the aircraft.. but saying that you guys had to go around because you were too close to another plane that was infront of you. its like you're saying that the airport you wanted to land at had no ATC (Air Traffic Control) to organize the airplanes landing which is not possible like i said, it might be possible to go around if the run way was busy yea, but you sounded like your aircraft was gona crash
Not very nice approach - it looked like the plane was approaching a storm with downdraughts or possible microbursts which can be fatal for aircraft. I was wondering whether there were some funnel clouds I could see on the horizon. Pilot seemed to handle the aircraft and the situation very well
@ryanhaart You're so mean! Everyone has fears!! I BET U DO 2! Y be so mean? U r a very cold hearted person and no one wants to be with u even for a split second ya moron!
ryanhaart, that's not what it said. it was a flight from london to Jacksonville with an B757 of Delta Airlines. He changed in London from a flight from Shanghai!
what a load of tosh this video is. Firstly, this is not a Boeing 757, because a 757 does not have the range to fly from Shanghai to London. Next, this is not a "scary" go around or turbulence. This is all fairly normal and happens all the time. Due to the string winds, there was a missed approach and the pilot decided to go around. Get a grip and take the bus next time if you are too scared to fly.
@ryanhaart I'm terrified of flying so this would be a very scary experience for me. I've been on a flight with turbulence which wasn't as bad as this and I was near in tears =/
@ryanhaart "from shanghai to Heathrow then on Delta 757 onwards to Jacksonville"
If you have normally working brains you probably realise that this was Delta 757 to Jacksonville from Heathrow maybe, or through some other city, idk about american cities so much. And from the look of the wing you can easily tell that this is 757.
@c172kid you are right....the plane was definately approaching minimums and therefore was a G/A. The aircraft was definately within the threshhold and there was not a missed a approach.
I was on one of the big two-engine Airbuses on a final into Texas, and it was way worse than this by appearances. The plane felt like a big bus slipping and sliding back and forth, we'd hit "hills" in the air and go up and down--it was severe weather. Couldn't see the ground, the soup was so thick.
Top that off with a one-point landing (right side, I believe) and it was the scariest flying experience I've ever had. This looked pretty choppy, but not quite as bad as what I went through.
That was a really scary attempt, the pilot made the right call to go south and get out of the weather. It would be completely irresponsible and dangerous to keep trying to land in those conditions, IMO.
@mcmanus1806 true. chinese pilots have brick landings. sink rates always seem high. in fact, some years back they crashed a plane because of high sink rate.
@mcmanus1806 This was delta aircraft. But whatever, if you would rather die on crash caused by pilots trying to land after fked up approach instead of go around then its ok.
@mcmanus1806 Haha, I agree there are many videos from the asian regions showing aborted landing etc.. But please remember, that these guys have the most extreme conditions to land in. They have monsoons/cyclone seasons. and they have to battle that often. I live in Australia and we never have that, even at the worst we have our northern wet season, but those poor guys deal with a lot. ANd I know the standard of Cathay for example is extremely high. They are mostly western pilots flying too.

See what happens when you don't turn off your electronic device like the flight attendant says? it screwed up the navigation system.
