  • Stewart Cppeland is fucking boss

  • They could have left the camera on Stewart.

  • The world is driven to tears

  • fuck justin bieber!!!! I justo listen to this and want to blow up my head when I hear today´s music!!!!! I love the policw!

  • Twitter ant got twat

  • One of my favorite drum performances of all time. Besides Rush, has there ever been a better trio? I don't think so.

  • Thimbs up if you watched, cuz u heard on twitter.

  • wow what was that

  • no oralagreement69 you are wrong i know true blond people

  • murders aren't as many as by cars, the draft, plane crashes, and poor diet and exercise.

  • Comment removed

  • 3 blond dudes all in the same band?? how can this be... ? . i dont see 3 blond dudes if i go out of my way to find them. (my point is that blond hair is being erased by nature for some reason)

  • @OralAgreement69 Because the Black Hairs are going to take over...

  • The interview at the end is just as tremendous as the live version of the song itself!

  • There might be better bands. I haven't seen them. There was an earlier comment saying they'd like to see a concert with the camera aimed only at Stewart Copland. To which I would have no objection.

  • the police will never be equalled

  • McEnroe...really? unorthodox... left handed...Copeland....jazz grip on the sticks...seeing things that other mortals never could.

  • Seems that when some innocent die all we can offer them is a page in some magazine. Too many cameras and not enough food, this is what we see.

  • monster version!!!i love the police

  • is a shame that the audio quality is kind of shitty, isn't it?

  • Totally underated, and i'm saying this about what is effectively a very well selling pop group, their collective talent is simply amazing every member can be an inspiration or idol of any learning musician

  • @GenericName86 Very well put.

  • Are those Imperialstars? Freekn' sweet and not even the better top line Superstars!!

  • The Police were so, so good.

  • Not sure if you can hit the ride any harder!

  • Stewart Copeland still plays drums like that...he hasn't slowed down

  • Stick to the original fucking solo Andy! ...

  • @Rikitocker Oh, come on... that was what was so exciting about the Police. They weren't afraid to stretch the songs out live. Can't Stand Losing You ended up around 7 minutes long, but it was still amazing. They did end up screwing up the songs a lot when they got back together, but that's because they were messing with the feel of the entire song. A different and interesting guitar solo is perfectly acceptable, especially when they're playing the same songs every night for 9 months!

  • Copeland: my G--!!!! Amazing and The Best - myriad, multinational rhythms & styles incorporated...the guy is SOOOO underrated.

  • Unique drummer

  • @Andres21479 - Er... You're kind of slow buddy.

  • Sting's shirt is the same one he wears in the "Don't Stand" video!

  • @MacGyver8806 Good eye!

  • A damn shame that these guys hate each other so much. There has to be an amazing amount of music left between the three of them. Will we ever hear it???

  • 2:54-56!

  • love that bass line

  • They break at 1:30 ..........one of my favorite all time manic inducing parts of any song ever.

  • i always kinda likened them to the Doors . . . no matter how good the band, the lead guy got all the press.

  • The Zenyatta Tour was by far their best IMO. Ghost and Synchronicity sounded over-produced and too commercial. Sting wasn't totally full of himself at this point, but getting there. Ha!

  • Telecaster and stereo Marshalls. He never used a Rickenbacker anywhere I'm sure.

  • Man I'm thankful for the police and bands like them, for the influences they gave me musically.. What the fuck do we have now a days for music??

  • @razzia89 I'm responding to a message you put on a police video. I agree that the police are awesome and influential. You said "what do we have for music now?" Well unfortunately a lot of the good music of today( and there is a lot.) has been driven "underground" because it's not commercial enough and because major record labels don't want to spend enough time developing artists they want the quick money. There is a lot of good music out there. Just look for it. pitchfork, youtube.

  • @razzia89 nothing :(

  • Man i'm thankful to have the police and bands like them to look back on for influences, i would be lost musically without, look at the music now a days what that the fuck do we have lol??

  • Stewart Copeland made The Police.

  • What can you do but play jazz, when the best pop music has already been played?

  • I'm lovin' Stings English Beat shirt haha!

  • @ckaledin Do you know where to get one?

  • @SteveShivik I was lucky enough to see the English Beat in concert, so I got one there :)! If you can't go see them (which I totally recommend) I'd check their website

  • Way above average. Ahead of the curve. Off the scale. Only a handful of rock acts can understand this kind of music, much less play it.

  • U just never see three jazz lovers playing a mixture of fusion and punk. At 2:34 Copeland pumped the tempo up to double that of most punk bands did at the time. Stu is a legend.

  • @soberek So concur! That is the allure for me :)

  • Who's playing the single-note sustains on the synthesizer at the beginning and the end?

    Is that a studio overdub?

Or is Miles Copeland sitting off the edge of the stage somewhere with his finger on a keyboard?

  • @brianallancobb No, any synths you hear are Moog Taurus pedals that both Sting and Andy had on the floor, operated by the feet. The were pretty primitive, I don't even recall them being polyphonic. Later, they went to having keyboards at each end of the stage for Sting and Andy to add in sustained notes on occasion.

  • @typsypyg

Thanks, I'll watch again and watch their feet. :-)

Saw Joan Jett in a club in Seattle in 1994. Her manager/producer, Kenny Laguna, sat off to the side of the stage playing sustained notes and chords on a keyboard.

He would even applaud after each song, as if he were a member of the audience.

  • These are the only Police I love!!! :-D Thanks for posting...

  • Stewart Copeland is amazing !!!! Great Drummer !!!!! And the others guys are not bad...........

  • Too many cameras and not enough food.

They'll be quoting this with Shakespeare, assuming we still exist.

  • Always liked a drummer who beats the shit out of his drums.

Never seen Andy Summers so animated.

Sting is, of course, the sexiest man since Paul McCartney.

Too many cameras and not enough food.

Didn't think this song was playable live.

Thank you for the post and showing me the fallacy of my thought.

  • Rock in it's rawest...definitely a big highlight of the 80's!

  • Great video thanks ! Sting, is wearing a cool t-shirt another cool band...

  • Stewart is simply a beast on the drums, and with Sting on the fretless bass (come on bass wankers...Sting sucks..right... WRONG) and Andy's kicking solo... the three were just ON!

  • I love Andy's weird solos - hitting off key notes in a purposeful way and deconstructing the 8-bar rock guitar cliche.

  • @harrissasha Ah...yeah! He's special. He made great choices. Some people just wanted him to masterbate on the guitar throughout all the songs.

  • 2010 te ting ting timeliness bravadeaux ducts

  • best version! love stewarts octobans

  • Old time monsters of rock....

  • the end of this song !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They are way too amped up when playing live and the CDs/videos are better. I am still a big fan, but don't want to hear jazz versions of Police music. Their sound was originally a bit of raggae not jazz.

I saw Queen at Madison Square Garden in 1983, and missed the Police a month later, but the QUEEN performance was first class with Freddie Mercury.

  • Caught them in Germany on this tour. There were so different live. A lot of Energy. And very cool to see all these kids from overseas enjoying the heck out of a great band.

  • The Police: What a band should truly be like. Maybe they had fights here and there, but on stage they were the best. Stewart's drum beats wouldn't have as much power without being behind Sting's high, raspy voice and bouncing bass lines, which wouldn't be anything without Andy's catchy, piercing guitar licks and chords, which wouldn't be anything without Stewart's syncopated beats and other-worldly hi-hat rhythms. It's that simple

  • Shakespeare, Einstein, Winston Churchill, Pele, McEnroe....Stewart Copeland.

  • @winterbourne7 Finally someone says what I have said since 1978 I cannot believe that he is not regarded as the best dummer in the last 30 years

  • @winterbourne7 Yeeeah!!! ;D

  • @winterbourne7 You jerk off to all of them? Or just to Copeland?

  • @winterbourne7 ....McEnroe, really?

  • @TTGBMR McEnroe....no adjectives worthy of describing him.... no one ever come up to his level

  • @winterbourne7 the best.....amanzing.....¡¡¡¡¡

  • @winterbourne7 I don't know what the hell he does with those drums...but he's just bloody amazing!!!

  • @winterbourne7 love you !

  • we liked it

  • This is from about 1982-83. Stewart is amazing, but how the hell is it sustainable to play that fast and that stiff? It looks like joint pain hell.

  • I look at how stiff Stewart is and, though I know he's young, I wonder how he avoided serious joint problems. You can play that fast, but that stiff is really rough on you.

  • @ WANNAROCKNROLL -good drummers can play like that... @absting1 Great power trio! Rush is another... can't think of any others on that level, can you? I had so much fun jamming out with a bass player and a guitar player last week.

  • what bass amp is that sting is using?

  • WOW.

  • name me a better drummer in the world than Stewart Copeland

  • @sheridanargyle Stewart Copeland?

  • @sheridanargyle NEIL PEART(Rush)

  • Superiority. My favorite Police song and a great live performance. Stewart is a God.

  • crazy to think 3 people doing what they love can influence and bring together so many!

  • looks like france has a shortage of drum thrones

  • Great song, Stewart's drumming dominates this song, he's so good, also the track "One World" from Ghost in the Machine is one of his finest moments.

  • copeland ke musicalita' che aveva un grande anzi uno dei piu' grandi al mondo

  • @magarinevica Si è un grande, e anche un grande uomo. L'ho visto ad Asti 4 anni fa, gentile, disponibile

  • Smoking is an Understatement - Sting - The Police - Brought Life to Percusion Ensembles - WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why dibn't come to per'u when were youngs

  • Respect the telecaster, baby.

  • @jwahh

Andy's playing a Rickenbacker. Look more closely.

  • @brianallancobb

That, my friend, is Andy's iconic Telecaster.

  • @Neubill

    Are you sure?

I'm no expert but I once owned a Telecaster and the body of the guitar looks too small.

Love the sunburst finish, whatever model it is.

  • @brianallancobb

For some reason, YouTube won't allow links to other YouTube videos in a post so, if I may...

Search for 'Andy Summers Telecaster' and the first results you'll see involve the replication project by the Fender Custom Shop, who have a history of doing tribute versions of famous guitars, including Eric Clapton's 'Blackie' guitar. The Andy Summers tribute guitar from the Fender Custom Shop is based on the Tele in this video.

  • one of there best ever song

  • Andy's solo here is pretty kickass

  • the sound of my childhood. the best genre ever

  • Stewart is a MONSTER! Love that guy!

  • hot damn stu!

  • no air conditioning theatre

  • a trio of blond headed musicians. you just dont see that much

  • @OralAgreement69 bleached

  • i just heard this song for the first time on the radio . " the world cafe" radio program ??? they play the most god awful shit. i feel embarrassed for the singers, but then THIS SONG comes on and im like "holy shit, this is The Police and ive never heard this song" i totally got excited cause i need some new music. i have to buy all their early albums now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @OralAgreement69 Zenyatta Mondatta, def. not an early album but better sound and andy has reached his style fully by now on guitar. unlike alot of 80's shit, his effects don't sound dated but unique. probably the best studio album in terms of sound quality. if i had to only have one police album, this would be it.

  • Copeland's gotta have spinal arthritis by now. that guy still plays just as hard to this day, he probably goes to a specialist every week to keep that in check, hats off to him

  • Mii & my Mom luv dis song :]

  • Stew is a f@#$ing monstah!!!!

  • gangstra!

  • I once called this the perfect three minute song. I still stand by that. Genius.

  • I LOVED this band.. Like was said earlier, I have lost count of the amount of Police tapes I ran out before CDs came along!

Keith Moon, Stewart Copeland and John Bonham, three of the best drummers in rock as far as I'm concerned. What an inspiration!

  • Andy Summers,Stewart Copeland and Sting ,What a Trio!

  • please post any more clips from this show - we LOVE everything about it!

  • please post any more clips from this show - we LOVE everything about it!

  • stewart copeland is the greatest drummer ever!!!

  • TIGHT

  • Tight!

  • 19 years old i was there in frejus seems yesterday

  • This is the best solo Summers ever played in his life!!!!

  • Stewart Copeland is a genius, these three musicians play together so well!

Groundbreaking for the day and I have to say nothing has come close to it since!

  • The really introduced a unique sound. Off-tempo never sounded so good.

  • Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart (Rush) created modern drumming. You're seeing a clinic from one of them right here.

  • they did not. they are just important in rock drumming.

  • Although Sting got most of the press and went on to become one of the largest stars in music, I believe Stewart Copeland was the driving force in this band. Those unmistakable beats drove the music of this awesome band. No other drummer could compare during the 80s.

  • What's that Onion editoral based around Sting? "I used to be cool once?"

Because I think that sums everything up very easily. Because outside of a tight band(and The Police did happen to be fully formed band) he crawls straight up his own arse and brings us Desert Rose...urghhh..

  • I bought the song (album, actually). Doesn't have nearly the same energy as this live performance.

    Copeland rages.

  • Protest is Futile...CLOCK CLOCK

  • ccROcTALES

BEFORE YOU CAN BURP. DRIVEN TO THE EDGE OF SUMMER

PROTEST IS FUTILE " ST AUG IN HELL"

    who dat?

  • MY COMFORTABLE EXISTENCE reduced to her saying Too Many SHadows bouncy balls and ha timing is e. Just because I protested the fact that crucify me by meerkat. By now we bounce around of walls like

  • @ePhilosopher9 ive seen u on many videos now, are u just some drunk guy posting shit?

  • Yeah Copeland's a guy who I just wish got a lot more attention. Sure drummers know his name, but he hardly gets the due he's deserved.

I mean he's just absolutely killin' here.

  • IN YOUR FACE...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Stewart Copeland is amazing. One of the best rock drummers ever.

  • wow !!!!! thanks for posting this amazing. ☺☻♥

  • LMAO...love it!! Total Cocaine Monster Drumming there!!! Whew!

    What a trio~

  • Spettacolo puro!!! grandiosi i Police!! ricordo dei miei 20 anni!!

  • Cocaine performance all the way... God bless Cocaine...and GOD BLESS POLICE

  • finally someone said it...

  • espetacular!

  • Stewert is f'n amazing!! What a frenzy he wipes up on this song, the driving kick and the chorus breaks. Love the guy!!

  • Copeland at his best! one of the greatest bands ever...

  • Copeland is pure BEAST !!

  • Amazing... Three talented individuals that make such a magical sound... pure joy...

  • Copeland is an animal.

  • much better performance than the crappy version on the Haiti telethon.

  • Comment removed

  • you can bet your ass it is so.

  • that was a badass version! questlove rockin the drums

  • The Beat T-Shirt!

  • Stewart Copeland and Sting both had them.. I want one ha.

  • This sounds like a re-recording. Notice how the drums aren't in sync...

  • @ccy2 not re-recorded, just out of sync.

  • The reason why I say this is because it sounds too good to be live...and Sting is in sync. Also, look at 0:59 where Andy is still playing the bass notes while the music goes from Bm7 to Am7...I don't know, it just seems suspiciously too good sounding.

  • @ccy2 listen to original beginning and then stewart's made up fill its just out of sync and its also faster

  • lead vocalist, bass player, also playing fretless bass? go figure!

  • The Police has been my favourite band since May, 1981. Now, 42, still my favourite band still...... Rush, continues to be the most musically talented without any dispute, ever, trio or not..........

  • Stewart Copeland, what a drive, groove and timing, no one can play like that...

    R G France

  • @WANNAROCKNROLL yeah stewart is amazing , but I think this version is speed up from the original live version of this, but it still sounds great!

  • @fendergolden1 Yes, def sped up, sounds almost better faster

  • @WANNAROCKNROLL Yes, but I never undertand why Sting always said that he didn't go on tempo!... présomptueux? sure :-)

  • Hendrix also had a great drummer, Mitch Mitchell, very unorthodox - it's rumoured that he played all the drums on Sgt. Pepper's, Ringo was only allowed a tambourine...

Copeland drives all the great Police songs, definitely the instrumentalist of the group, the main force to the energy..

    ..the Jman..

  • Jimi will never be touched, that's for sure. NEVERTHELESS, The Police was in many ways an escape from the Rock that surged from him, Cream, Led etc. They believed that less was more and mada their point with that. I love Hendrix, but Copeland is "THE" DRUMMER for me.

  • intense & viscious

What I would'nt give to be able to groove like Stew just once

  • My left nut... Hell, both my nuts! I'm serious.

  • Stewart and Andy were the kickass musicians that made this band - Sumner's talent is and always has been overrated. Copeland is clearly pumped in this video - looking toward the end like his throttle was stuck wide open after someone threw a little coke in his fuel tank..... Love his drumming style.

  • i saw them live and they were incredible.its amazing the sound they get for just 3 guys.the only 3 man band that could even come close is rush

  • Freakin' great song and decent vid quality for 1980, i just wish the camera would've stayed on Stew a little longer so I can learn his technique....MONSTER DRUMMER!!!!

  • before sting became a lame woosie.

  • I have to agree (and theoretically, I'm a 60s guy....This will always be one of the most powerful experiences ever. Unsurpassed.

  • There will never be a trio sounding better than this live. This kind of energy and chemistry happens only once a century. I dare you to name a better live experience!
