Am playing it again now and plan to use it this year in amateur Competition. It is such and introspective piece. I think one could work on it for a very very long time and still want to work more on it!
So beautiful and graceful.. I really enjoyed your playing. Nocturne 9/3 is one of my favourite nocturnes. Sometimes practising is frustrating... after watching your performance I want to practise right now-- thank you. :)
Great performance! I have a question - when you have several notes in the right hand vs the left hand, does it matter where the notes connect? Or can I just let the right hand go free as long as I maintain the tempo with the left hand?
@gradius55 Well...yes it makes a difference. When learning it divide up the notes so you know where the L.H. note falls. You have an uneven group of notes on top and even below. Practice slowly until it moves. The beat has to continue.
I guess I need to pay more attention to those details. A perfect example is the first nocturne (op 9 no 1). When you have 22 RH vs 12 LH. Is it ok for any notes to connect besides the first note of the measure? I try to create a staggering effect with no notes connecting in the RH and LH. I don't know if my method is correct.
Fantastic, beautiful, wow . . . as someone who has studied the piano, I know how hard it is to phrase things beautifully and play by memory. It's definitely the hardest thing I've ever attempted so when I see someone like yourself ace it, I just . . . hat's off! Bravo!
Not compared to a Steinway, Boesendorfer, or some of the other big names. Piano stores are really hurting right now, it is a good time to get a good deal!
Very sensitive and lightly playful - I like your interpretation and tone quite a bit (it really sings with headphones on).
Everyone slips up - I do, also - but as a performer, I would refrain from shaking my head at 1:11. I hope I don't sound severe through the text, because really, I'm not at all serious. :D It's cute and all, but just act like nothing happened. It would be better to leave them doubtful as to whether you made a mistake *rather* than confirming it, no?
gosh, You are REALLY observant! I didn't feel I made a mistake as such, but had a note or two that didn't sound. I was not shaking my head for that reason, but interesting that you interpreted it as such. I surely could have re-recorded this to try for a better reading....but just didn't. Thanks for commenting.
Robert, Thank you so much, your performance is indeed lovely. I think a wonderful piece like this Nocturne is constantly evolving. I know if i did it again today it would be slightly different. That is what keeps it fresh and interesting!
Hi, Judy. I think I saw this one before. Has it been online for a while? Didn't you also play this at Carleton in your recital on June 19? Thanks for uploading "Soiree de vienne" from that recital at Carleton. I just listened to it again. I remember liking it a lot when I heard it originally, but it sounds even better now, as does this Chopin. I guess your videos mellow with age, like a fine wine. Best wishes, Don O.
Hi Judy, so great to see/hear you again. This is one of my favorite Chopin Nocturnes and your interpretation is just stunning. Best wishes to you. I hope all is well.-Melanie

@gradius55 I have not played this Nocturne...but i would say that SOME notes fall together. Listen to recordings of it, you should be ale to tell.
