  • Kinda reminds me of Enya, but I think SS came before. This is such a lovely song.

  • so lush and dreamy~ <3

  • really?...faggot for recognizing such deliciousness?...don't be a hater....it wastes too much energy...and besides its not pretty!

  • this is a pop song masterpiece, the arrangement is pure genius!

  • they were ahead of their time, this is like pre-shoegaze, they, to me, sound like a perfect mix of lush and st etienne, it's like I took 2 genres I love, dream pop/shoegaze, and alternative dance pop, and combined them. this has been a real treat to discover, amg doesn't describe their sound at all, if I knew they sounded like this, I would of been listening to this years ago.

  • @xjuggaloryda1991x : coming from a juggalo i'll take it as a compliment. you people are the scum of the earth.

  • @xjuggaloryda1991x

You, sir, are a faggot. Have a nice day.

  • PERFECTION

  • Very relaxing song... stress reliever.. thanks for the post! I ♥♥♥ this!!!

  • It is sweet as melt. And, it is sad. Love.

  • The 80s - a most colorful decade. Not grimy like the 70s or doped up like the 60s.

  • Saint Etienne? Was Sarah Cracknell ever a fan? There's a thought...some, slight similarities there or am I mistaken. Strawberry Switchblade were first too, no?

  • @winstonthecat that's sooooooo funny , I said that on my comment, they sound like a source for saint etienne AND lush, it's crazy. there's groups that influence bands in england, and we never know. like I've just gotten into the buzzcocks, and I've been listening to some early, rare/unreleased at the time adam and the ants, and it's TOTALLY where blur got their sound, and I loved blur for years, funny how that works...

  • what a beatifull song this is... can remember listening to it over and over again in the eighties..

  • I alwasy thought it was funny she said "colour magazine" as opposed to a greyscale one or something.

  • the 80s smell ..it gets emotionalwhen music reminds us of our younger years.. long lost friends ,relationships.....

  • Terry Halls Terry Blair And Anouchka single Ultra Modern Nursery Rhymes is back up!

  • Its kinda Lolita style!

    I loved!

  • the music is nice,

  • This is a beautiful video. Did MTV play strawberry switchblade in the 80s? I dont remember seeing their videos.

  • Nice song

(Just ashame about some of the not so nice comments below!)

  • these girls were the first american lolitas (japanese street fashion-look it up if you don't know)

  • @Desi1204 my bad, english lolitas- not american

  • They are SCOTTISH :)

  • @Desi1204 ok then, my bad again. The first scottish lolitas ^__^

  • :/ never thought of it that way before

  • Ha Ha 1787dude is a fag.

  • stop trolling me u shitbag,.

  • like i said in the other room, your secret homo desires are showing, and your just making yourself look like a moron, and your an embarassment to other black people.

  • what the fuck are you talking about!? you are living in a fantasy world, a really disgusting one too.

  • aight!

  • I agree... "IFuggedYerMomma" is a naff homophobic self-loathing nelly... and we all know he craves a big boner and actually wants to look like one of the "Strawbs'...

Anyway... most of his rants are impossible to decipher... I mean, does anyone here actually know what language that is? It sounds pretty retarded to me.

  • @macintosser i think its some form of wannabe gettho shit hoodrat or somethin, i dunno why but this guy just targets me for no reason and starts trolling the hell out of me, in three or 4 different rooms at the same time.i was targeted maaan :D

  • Yes, I had wondered why that apocalyptic white trash was here, bothering people who are into Strawberry Switchblade... Why isn't he somewhere else commenting on Pariah Scarey's big pendulous udders...

  • @macintosser lmao, her evil bitch smile just makes it worse lol

    -Gang

  • you can say that again! hahaha

  • Im 16 and i prefer this music over the music they have today they pretty much sound the same so it gets boring easily they play it alot but i find this music more interesting and awesome

  • da pra entender pq nao fizeram mais sucesso rs - bom visual e musica ruim

  • the first time I heard this song was a quarter of century ago and the girl I was with then strangely resembled one of them - I should've run to buy the import album, though... everytime I listen to this song and watch this video, my heart misses a beat. "Kimi Ga Yo!"

  • Does anyone know how Rose hooked up with David Tibet & the World Serpent crew?

  • Rose McDowell - dark hair

    Jill Bryson - ginger hair

    Just think Ginger Jill.

    That's how I remember!

    Lovely song!

  • Goddammit this album brings me to tears at the most inappropriate times.

  • Wow, what a beautiful video! I wish I could see it in better quality... =(

  • Lovely Song for a lazy afternoon. I still have their Cassette tape now. I was 16 when their album was released.

    FOND MEMORIES.

    -With Luv from SGP-

  • Now that I've readed few of these comments, it seems I'm the only teenager who listens these girls these days O__o awesome music, awesome style.

  • I listen to them too but i just turned 20 hehe

  • OK......So you are above the rest of the 99% of people in your generation...Congrats.

  • I love these girls.. they are from my hometown glasgow and a lot of their clothing came from a market called paddys market!!! Im 37 this year my 12 yr old daughter loves them too..

  • its interesting listening to these trax as they are b4 auto tune.

  • A truely amazing track, wish they would reform.

  • when i walked in to HMV and asked for Strawberry Switchblade, the sales assistance when "HUH"?????hahaha, i am 35 now, and listened to them at 11years old... from Singapore with love...

  • konokyokuwasugeenatsukasiosue ! arigatosan☆

  • The most beautifull and sad song.

  • @TheBallroomsofmars there are much sadder songs on the album. this one, to me, is sweet & sour.

  • I still have this album, in vynil, of course. Used to love especially this track. Wonderful! It´s the first time i see the video! THANKS!

  • I've seen them live in 1985. But never knew they had a album out. what eas it called?

  • It's simply titled "Strawberry Switchblade" and it's one of the most sophisticated pop albums of the 1980s.

It's like they're right out of my dreams...lovely.

  • delightful

  • Un autunno lezioso, donnette viziate, non fa per me. Però tutto ben costruito.

  • For I hate the trees...and I hate the flowers...

  • Beautiful...I remember listening to this when I was a kid and relating to the lyrics, so funny "then I get myself a glass of milk...". When I hear this song now it sounds really haunting, but beautiful in the way something good that is gone seems.

  • one of the great songs that came from the 80s.

  • this is a badass song it take me back to 86'

  • sheer creative genius song writing very unique

  • It's 2008, and it still sounds amazing! This is a timeless piece. Thanks for the video. I remember my high school days!

  • Since yesterday is weird but intreging. I like this song though. Perky goth is very odd. (or maybe because i'm 15 and more used to bands like the cure)but anyway i like this song.

  • MMmmm so dreamy....This song is fantastic as well. Still remember listening to the 7" back in the 80s. And here I am 20 years later still listening....Ooops :)

  • Beautiful song and wonderful colours (perfectly apt for this song). I like the way those girls play hide and seek.

  • what a change eh, jack off jill, and scarling are much better tho

  • I don't know why this didn't chart. The vocal/harmony arrangements are just beautiful. The horns sound great, proabably the only track they recorded where their vocals and guitars were mixed way down like the rest of the songs they recorded. I think that album was overproduced with too much "electronics." That's why it sounds so dated today. But this track is an exception.

  • wow....it sound so good. 1985

    Nostalgic.

  • the was the lost era, when music was really music not noise

  • i cry........... this is like a shining example of CROSSOVER music..... this made me a fan of theirs...... xx

  • 20+ years ago this was 1 of the songs that lured me to New Wave--it kicked ass then, it still does now, for me. Also like 2 hear the Sundays, the Lotus Eaters, the Care...

  • OMG! Haven't heard this for well over 20years! Thanks for the post bog. Was this a single? I remember the video on the telly on the song on the radio, but there's no trace of it ever entering the Top 75. Not sure who's who, but a mutual friend of mine used to live in the same apartments as the blonde one, down in sunny Brighton!

  • anyone got the album id love it

  • I've got the album but I'm buggered if I know how to upload anything. Still, if I can help ...

  • hi there

im the same not very tecchy, could you just copy the album and i would pay for post etc no problem, its a hard one to get hold of

    regards from

    ireland

    seamus

  • one of my favourite songs ever, love it.

  • I have been lookin for this for the looongest time!! thank you thank you for posting. I remember seeing this for the 1st time when I was a kid and as totally enthralled by their look and sound

  • WOW!!!! Many thanks for posting this! Loved Rose and Jill in the 80's still got the vinyl, album, trees and flowers, jolene 12" etc. Got the greatest hits cd recently too! Love their melancholic sound...fave is either Go Away or Secrets, probably the former, beautifully miserable.

  • ROSE !

  • I had to get my copy of this album from Japan but it was well worth it...love it still. Does anyone have Trees and Flowers to upload?

  • One of their best songs is "10 James Orr Street" (I think that's the right name) from their album. It's a truly superb song, I'd love to hear it again. If you can find it, check it out!!!

  • Wow ,this song is so lovely! Do i hear Xylophones? I like the beat of the drums, the horns are soothing and the vocals are just sweet and the dream-like video makes the whole thing great! I luv this song and i always go here to watch and listen to it. This has been a part of my teen years and i'm thankful i found it here! *80s music lives on! =)

  • ditto! the 80's were my halcyon days

  • the pastels so copied this music

  • first love at 18 still brings back mems would love to have met them

  • Ahhh this is my favorite of their songs - hadn't heard it in 15 years or so, and it still sounds wonderful! So odd how it's almost over-the-top bubble gummy and girly and yet it sounds so rich and delicious. Maybe it's the Herb Alpertish horns ...

  • What? They had OTHER songs too? LOL*

  • hmmm... love this song :)

  • this song kicks ass

  • Rose looks soooo dreamy! Too bad she doesn't play out with Current 93 these days.

  • yeah seriously, her voice is missed.

  • Oh god they wrote songs about milk ... how I remember ... ahhh! ... I actually bought some of their albums thinking they might be something like Siouxsie & The Banshees ... I was sooooo wrong.

  • Siouxsie was the queen of goth. Cool she was but definitely not cute.

  • Strawberry Switchblade has never been big in Holland. I am probably the only idiot in the country who knows and remembers them. Up till now I never ever heard this song. Great!

  • i thought i've never see or hear this song again, this is one of my fave song back in the days...ssb where r u now???

  • smoooooth, love it. brings back memories! umm and they also sounds like Club 8 from sweden...tnx for upload.

  • That firehaired women... i can die for her.... I ust simply love her.

  • Really? I prefer the black haired one myself. Never heard of them, but they do have part of my name in the title, and they are pretty hot...from what I can tell at least...

  • I swear, she looks like a brunette barbie doll. So cute!

  • Her name is Jill.

  • The Switchblade are sublime! Check out Trees and Flowers - an early 7" single - if you want to hear their original (pre-major label) folky sound.

  • Listening to this is like being hugged by a kitten.

  • This song always puts me in a restive, mellow mood. The girls running through the park in long dresses is a nice touch.

  • Lovely.......

  • I always fancied Jill...

  • You know what I'm saying, bro? Still, Rose was cute too. I met her in 1988 at a Creation Records After party in London. She was very sweet and put up with me asking about Jill, I was only a kid, she understood...

  • Is it true that Rose once released a version of "Don't fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult, after she went solo?

  • Yes

  • "this ain't the summer of love" it was

  • ahhh, SO BEAUTIFUL!! it fills my heart with longing and with all subtle and gentle emotions...I love Rose so much... and the music...Rose is a genius for creating etherical voice harmonies. she started doing this with Strawberry Switchblade and continued with it, and even raised it to another level, in her other band Sorrow...if only I could her her singing live! it would be such a treat *

  • if u ever c them tell them if the want 2 come 2 any viking reanactments there is a free ticket 4 them just ask 4 jan the trouserless. we do events like battle near hastings and other events.

  • they don't do stuff together anymore, Rose has friends in Brighton and of course Glasgow, often playing in other bands like Current 93, Into a Circle and many others where she is backing or lead. I haven't seen rose for donkeys years (late 80s) but there are plenty of websites ploting her movements

  • i used to live in brighton but know live in crawley near gatwick airport and still have freinds and family in brighton so mabey i will come across rose sometime my brother in law is in the music down there.

  • I'm sure you will find people who know her esp the more unusal bands. jill on the otherhand is less outgoing, their first single called Trees and Flowers was about Jill's agriphobia (on 92 happy customers label later rereleased as a free bonus with album on Korova)

  • i have freinds in brighton and see if they have rose.i think i did c her about early 90s but i am not sure.

  • sorry its been so long,i was having a chat with a freind the other day and i reamber were i saw rose its was at a party i shared a house with a ex dolly mixture(captain sensibles backing group)i was very drunk though,

  • yes, simply lovely!!!!

  • i feel sad after listening. we really are growing old.

  • what ever happend 2 them?great group.

  • they split up after sucess in japan, Rose went off to Canada and continues singing, Jill remained in N london but i haven't seen her for over a year. several songs were only released in japan avilable on ebay from time to time -look out for the extra long version on cd

  • THE RIGHT ONES MY MUVVA

  • lovely. simply lovely.

  • I have always loved this song, it pops in my head all the time, it was a treat to see the video for it. Thanks a million!

  • Surreal....Beautiful.....A fragment in time missing forever.......

  • BRINGS BACK MEMMORIES, REAL CLASSIC

  • Another underrated band !!! One of their best songs...

  • its a lovely song actually..nice vid too.

  • A perfect pop song. Love it. The video looks like a classic French porn film though. They were ahead of t.A.T.u in um, certain aspects. Now I know what love is!

  • breath taking ...awesome!!!

  • you know something sucks when you're high and it still sucks

  • brilliant!

  • There's this lovesick smile on my face...Shallowed Breathing...Eyes fixed...This is love.

  • wow, never thought Id see this! Thank you!

  • gothic yet nostalgic.

  • Caladonian Cuties! Saw them in 85 in Coventry Poly and still have the 12" singles.Beautifully haunting song. Seem to remember that one of the girls was agoraphobic, which may explain some of the lyrics. Stu :}

  • I hate that I wish I was seventeen again.

  • After 21 years and it's only now that I've seen the video to this awesome song. Brings back memories. I share everyone else's sentiment... relaxing and artistic. Kudos to the girls, bogartnoir, and YouTube!

  • very relaxing song..

anyway, im a smashing pumpkins fan for 14 years now and lovin' 'em (latest album early next year)

but as i was browsin' for a much rare bands here on youtube and stuff then i found this.. strawberry switchblade!

brings back my elementary years together with depeche mode, ABC, workshy, style council, spandau ballet, joy division, U2, EBTG and the cure.

  • Fantastic. I'd never seen the video for this song till now. So lovely to see it and the girls again. Even in 2006 the song it still as fresh as it was in 85. Love it.

  • God bless youtube...strawberry switchblade ace! I snogged them both! x x x

  • First time I see this one.. this is superb this is art! It is like an emotional landscape and the cenario is also very good. This is like a Romantic painting in a video clip.

  • brilliant!

  • cool song! brings back memories of my high school years. thanks!
