u guys are retarted the player on the other theam came out and said that he wasnt trying to blah and that hes was trring to get up fast it just looks bad because it was in slow motion
if i was that running back, i would have kicked in straight in the balls. spikes is a complete piece of crap. i absolutely hate players like this. one day, what goes around is gonna come around....
"I don't know how often peoples' eyes get pulled out. And jabbed. And eyesight taken away." I'm sorry, did someone lose their eyesight? That's like saying, "I don't know how often Nick Williams [late] hits quarterbacks, paralyzing them, causing them to never walk again."
Now thats football, thats a pretty pathetic comparison to attempting to poke someones eye out. lol Urban Meier iisood at coaching but needs to focus more on discipline besides winning s much
OooOoo! A half game! That's like suspending a baseball pitcher for a game. Well, he's not going to pitch again for a few games anyway, so what's the point? And for that matter, they always seem to freaking appeal! Just take the damn suspension!
so dez bryant of osu gets suspended the rest of the year for talking to deon sanders and not harming anyone but brandon spikes gets a half game suspension for trying to gouge someones eye out. NCAA has the wierdest punishment structure ever.
im sorry but jeremy you're clearly biased. you avoid answering if ealey was injured (cuz he wasnt), you play down the fact that spikes had his eye poked, and you claim poking an eye can have long-term consequences, but not a punch? are you serious? cuz nobody's died in the ring or from any kind of punch. take spikes' actions to the extreme and not blounts...way to go. you're a f'ing tool. did you go to georgia or something?
She had the best question ..."did the player get hurt?" it was interesting you had not thought to check that out much...you were so caught up in your own assumption of guilt....never thought to ask the player involved...after all you had all the proof you needed of eyebrow tickling... I think this story plays off of the fear of what if this happened to me...vs. the reality of this particular case....
This guy is a thug. Bottom line I've played football and I know a lot of stuff goes on but it was a mutual understanding that the eyes and face were not really messed with. Leg twisting ball grabbing all of that happened but it was like he said that just hurts this could ruine someones quality of life. He needs to sit the rest of the season.
ok guys, if you havent played football for HS or College, or know someone who has then you are an idiot for thinking that this doesn't happen a lot in the piles. OH HIS EYE OMG HIS EYE. his eye didnt get gouged. so you should shut up and stop crying.
This piece of shit should be kicked out for the rest of the fuckin season! Fuck Urban Meyer he shouldn't have the decision of the suspension this should be a ncaa decision not a coach. Florida doesn't deserve any credit for the crappy game they play. No skill just a bunch of fuckin thugs.
I absolutely do not condone or appreciate what Spikes did. However, to say the guy LeGarret Blunt punched could not have been permanently damaged is also a ridiculous comparison. In fact, Brandon McArthur, a UF baseball player, was cold cocked, hit his head on the ground, and almost died from that type sucker punch.
This is hilarious: if FL were not the number 1 team in the nation this would be a "non issue." A bunch of jealous haters come on here because they don't like FL and they want to see FL lose by any means necessary. They know Brandon Spikes is the real deal at MLB. So, FL sees this plays, makes it public, suspends their own player for half a game...and the moaning begins. Nobody talks about what was done to Brandon and having his helment ripped off and stuff prior to this act. GA did stuff too.
playing dirty unfortunately is part of the game. it happens all the time. in high school i played with a guy who eventually went on to win the heisman. our rival team had a hit list on him and who ever could knock him out of the game got a monetary reward. after my friend iced the game with a long touchdown run a db from the other team swooped in while he was 8 yards in the end zone and dove at his knee, tearing the guys acl. the whole rival crowd went nuts like they won the game after he didit.
i'm british and have only recently started following football, iim quite familiar but whats the heisman haha? pretty bloody harsh about what happened to the guy on your team though.
But you have to be in the criteria. First you can not be a freshman or sophmore. Then you cant be named anything other than Tebow. I must say I think this is going to be a weak draft class, though.
Urban Meyer doesn't even care about Spike's actions.. Urban should be fired and Spikes should be thrown in jail with all his other Brothaz and Cuzzins....LOL... Class act out of Florida huh? THUG TRASH

Unbelievable! This guy intentionally tried to gouge the guys eyes and he gets suspended for a half against Vanderbilt? I hope Florida loses that game and gets killed in whatever bowl game they play in just because of this play. DIRTY PRICKS!
The Georgia player was completely unharmed. He has even come out and said that he thinks there should be no suspension for Spikes. Urban Meyer actually went to the SEC commissioner and they said that no suspension was needed, it was Meyer's choice to suspend him at all. I still think half a game is a bit of a joke, and by no means do I condone Spike's actions, but I'm tired of uninformed people blowing this out of proportion.
You are missing the point though. The fact that he even attempted to poke his eyes out can literally hurt someone for the rest of their lives. Mike Slive is a complete joke who does nothing but protect the teams that run the SEC and he gives all of the other teams the finger. The NCAA needs to step in and fire Mike Slive in my opinion. He is a disgrace to college sports.
Get over it. How many plays does this sort of stuff go on that the cameras never see? If you weren't on the field, and I'm not saying I was, how much dirty crap do you think the cameras missed? A lot more than this from both sides, guaranteed.
This is nothing Cenk. My daughter was a high school cheerleader and her football team purposely sent the opposing team's running back to the hospital with a dislocated knee. They huddled on the first down and decided to seek revenge because the running back was a member of some gang. They gang tackled him and ripped his knee apart.
Football is getting less violent. They protect the quarterback too much, they call a lot of facemasks and holding. It's still violent, but it's not too bad.
This is just about 10x more unacceptable than that LaBlount skirmish (where that guy got suspended for the rest of the season for bad sportsmanship).
This is beyond "bad sportsmanship." This was a case of reckless rage. He inserted his hands into that guy's helmet, and began squirming his hand in there. Trying to eye gouge somebody like that (somebody at the bottom of a pile) is pathetic. He might as well have hit somebody up with pepper spray.
oh come on seriously, they say this doesn't happen alot, WELL IT DOES. that happened all of the time in junior high and high school when i played. its not really as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. come its not like he isn't getting penalized. and its a bunch of college guys getting angry and competitive. they aren't going to skip and hold hands. so just get over it. its not a big deal.
THIS IS FOOTBALL ITS NOT FOR THE TIMID! If at most you lose an eye, YOU GOT OFF LIGHT! There are people that have ended up in wheel chairs for playing the game. Its a gladiator sport not just a game.
This shit is serious. Spikes should be suspended for the rest of the regular season. If he isn't, then it should be open season on all Gators' eyes. Remember that Clevelend Browns offensive lineman, a couple seasons ago, who had to retire after his eyes were hit by a ref's penalty flag?
I think he would be if he were mor important.. but Spikes is a huge deal- probably the most revered Gator next to Tebow and Urban didn't want to mess it up...
haha I'm from Gainesville, this is ALLi hear about on the news... so annoying
as somebody on ESPN said, its as if you got your eyes gouge'd out at the movie theatre, its not apart of football, it has nothing to deal with football, he should be punished based on being an idiot and assualt or something not half a game cuz he did something in football.
Isn't that assault? I think he should be criminally charged. It was clearly on purpose for no reason. That's tampering with the victim's career. What's the difference between this and Tanya Harding? Banning him for first half. Ha. What a joke.
What was Spikes trying to accomplish from that? You really think he was trying to actually take someones eyes out? Who suspends someone for half a game?
i've never heard of rugby players getting poked in the eye. plus if it wasn't on purpose why didn't he pull his finger out as soon as he noticed it was in the helmet.
i love football, but i don't think it will be around very much longer. head injuries are real, and affect people's lives detrimentally. also, cheating: eye gouging, stepping on people hands on purpose, rib punching, spitting, ball racking, etc. is well known in football. thats why those fights happen out there and you wonder why. this is cheating, one game suspension at least.
yeah it's not a big deal, i think they should even authorises weapon on the field... it's not a big deal...not a big deal for someone to try to take your eye off... how about it was your eye you dumbass
How did you get to weapons? you are about as smart as a rock cake boy. Why are you responding to me anyway? Oh.. it wasn't my eyes and nothing happened to his eye smart guy. Also I'm not a toy or snow man so while you can take my eye out of the socket thereby removing it, it is not clothing so I can never take it off. Dumbass..lol
its people with ideology like you that turn a good pure game into something evil. Where in the official rules of football is it said that one aspect of the game is to purposely injure your opponent? saying it is no big deal causes this kind of shit to keep happening, and if there were stricter punishments, like getting kicked out the league, it would stop. i'm sure many talented guys have had their careers ended because of UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS.
Pure Game....lol...Have you ever played? Its a savage sport and the goal is to physically dominate. What do you call cutting lineman's knees? Is that pure??? You could tear a guy's ACL like that but its still allowed...Let's put some flags on em and have em hold hands....
Sorry smart guy. My thoughts on a sport are in no way representative of an ideology. Do you even know what an ideology is? A 26 word comment on whether him poking at someone's eye does not in any way constitute a ORGANIZED SYSTEM OF SOCIAL BELIEFS.Probably seemed really cool when you wanted to use that word didn't it? Well gave you a thumbs up because Ithink you are a little retarded and thus deserving of some positive feedback. Just don't take off your helmet when around walls.
I didn't say it was right but I played for 9 years in high school and college and 2 yrs of semi-pro . It's just part of the game, it's not always that obvious, but in a pile eye's get poked, fingers get broken and nut's get crushed! Thats just the way it is.
a half game suspension? wtf? Meyer just wants to act like he's actually doing something about it, but still doesn't want to lose. what a half ass suspension!
I though JR said that he wont be able to use it again..... I got a tumbs down for a fucking Q that I was asking...Fucking faggot bastard whoever did that lol
r u an idiot or just really that stupid??? That is not football that is just dirty and grimy I mean I know brandon spikes is a dirty thug but this is just beyond low and you are are dumb fuck like tebow and meyer for condoning it.That is somebody's eye?!?
Seems like, given the circumstances, that he was trying to "get away with" doing some illegal damage. Maybe it was "this for that".. dunno... Off the field, it would be a fairly serious crime that he might do time for, if he was trying to do actual damage. Football is a sport that damages some of the players quite badly. It's like "Roller Ball" or colliseum sports. Godd think they don't allow knives and brass knuckles.
I love the comparison with Oregon's running back that snapped after a game. That guy not only hit a player in the face, pushed away his own teamates, but he also went after a freaking fan in the stands! I understand that the time for the crime wasn't fair, but come on comparing Spikes to that guy. Wow. Just think if Spikes was at FSU,they would have given him some type of reward for that.
Am I the only one who thinks this should be more than just a football related penalty ? As it happened apparently the other guys eye was ok, but if it hadnt been, wouldnt this be assault ? As in jail time ?
Going for the guys eye had nothing to do with football, it was a direct attempt at causing physical harm, is that suddenly ok just because it happened on a football field ?
In any case half a game is a damn joke, should be half a season, at least.
You stupid jackass! Where's the victim? Ealy wasn't hurt. Brandon was just demonstrating that two can play the eye-gouging game, which Ealy instigated just a few plays before.
Spikes is a great player, and a clean player. Brandon didn't hurt the pussy Ealy, but the Gators hurt you Bulldog fans little girly f e e l i n g s by kicking the shit out of your worthless team... AGAIN!
This should be a multi-game suspension, if LeGarret Blount(HB Oregon) gets canned for the season for throwing a punch after the game. Then this guy should get canned for just as long for gouging somebodies eyes.
Half a game? WOW! I bet he never does that again. If i was the coach this guy would be off my team. There is no excuse for that kind of action on the field. This punishment nowhere fits the crime
Well if I was the player and all they did was take the half away, I'd do the same thing to that jacknife, then insist on my half also being taken away.
It's best for Spikes to spend the remainder of his "education" on subjects other than football. He is now a target for every offensive lineman and back who takes issue with his actions. Even his own offense will retaliate during scrimmage. The stupid bastard.
Couple of jokes about. Spikes was just checking for a concussion on the UGa player. Spikes: "How many fingers do you see!". Well maybe if Blount was a bad fighter and missed the punch. He probably would have gotten half game suspension too. Tim Tebow took Spikes to the side after the helmut butt(eye gouge) and read a passage from Leviticus. "Eye(gouge) for an eye(gouge)". Let's call him Spkes. Because he does not like eyes.
lmfao Jacksonville is not a neutral stadium its like 1 hour north of Gainesville, they only play it there because its a rivalry game and it attracts a large audience.
You are wrong. If you have listened, even Mike Golic said that there are lines that don't get crossed, or when they do, there are severe consequences. He is outraged by not only the actions, but by the ridiculous 1/2 game suspension. Every NFL player I have heard comment has confirmed his sentiment. They all agree you don't go for the knees, you don't grab privates, and you certainly do not gouge out people's eyeballs! Golic said he never went into anyone's facemask, or had anyone do it to him.
According to Brandon, he was only retaliating. I'm not justifying his actions. I said "Bitting, pinching, slapping, scratching all goes down in the pile.", I didn't say anything about eye gouging.
You said: "It's football, people do things like that in the pile all the time." To make that statement in reference to this incident is tantamount to defending it. There is no defense. To what was Spikes retaliating? Did he have an injury? Where is the evidence that was done to him? And even if it were done to him, there are ways a MAN responds to things like that. Spikes is a punk thug. Criminal charges should be filed, and he should never see another NCAA athletic field except from the stands.
Give the player a choice, season on the bench/home or let the other player have one free shot to three stoogies the guy on the fifty yard line at half time. If afterwords he can see let him play if not then he sits out.
Why is it up to that player's coach? That doesn't make any sense.
This player should be suspended for the rest of the season at least and the coach needs to be suspended as well. That other coach was suspended for his 'faggots' comment. This coach is allowing criminal conduct on the field.
There was a guy playing in the Australian Rugby League back in 2001 who stuck his thumb up the ass of some of the opponents in the scrum. When they complained to the ref and the video footage was replayed he was booted out for life. Now what's worse, ass or an eye socket. Half a game for a very serious eye injury is almost an insult.
wtf is this shit? I don't even watch American soccer but that sounds like such a light sentence. Screw that. Should he be ban for life? I would feel that's normal. But if he only get that, I hope someone will do the same back to him and go all the way.
Jayar is crazy, when the Bucs had a good defense.. pretty much every game other players said that Bucs players would gouge at their eyes in piles, let's get real... it happens more than you know. If we were to look back at all game film I bet you find similar things... what, you going to go back and punish everyone?
a) why are we punishing people who voluntarily play a violent, contact sport?
b) are we going back to review every play, of every game to make sure nothing extra-curricular happens? then start handing out suspensions left and right to everyone who throws a late hit?
c) it happened in-game, the Oregon incident happened after the game was over, which is totally different.
football is mayhem... people have been turned to vegetables because free-safety's can take a guys head off when they arent looking... yet that's "part of the game"... in the end, no one got hurt...
no, football is not mayhem. there are clear rules that fall well within criminal laws. assault is assault. felony blinding is felony blinding. professional sports is not a license to commit mayhem.
"people have been turned to vegetables because.."
in this instance, no one got hurt... seems my grammar made my point moot...
you cant say that an overly violent sport isnt mayhem just because it has rules... we can dress it up and make it look pretty, but it is still mayhem...
I guess what I really want is a standard... there has to be standards for these things... if this instance is ripe for suspension for an entire season, then lets look over the tapes for every game this season and suspend everyone that hurts someone else
I don't know of anyone turning into the vegetable, but poking someone's eyes out is not a legal football move. Yes it's a violent game, and no we shouldn't have to review every play for shit like this, but he was caught and he should be punished.
Now I'm not saying suspend him for the whole season, or some shit like that, just bench him for the whole damn game. Half a game suspension is
People invest way too much emotion into this "ball game"... At least it's not soccer though.

oh come on seriously, they say this doesn't happen alot, WELL IT DOES. that happened all of the time in junior high and high school when i played. its not really as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. come its not like he isn't getting penalized. and its a bunch of college guys getting angry and competitive. they aren't going to skip and hold hands. so just get over it. its not a big deal.

Remember that Clevelend Browns offensive lineman, a couple seasons ago, who had to retire after his eyes were hit by a ref's penalty flag?

as somebody on ESPN said, its as if you got your eyes gouge'd out at the movie theatre, its not apart of football, it has nothing to deal with football, he should be punished based on being an idiot and assualt or something not half a game cuz he did something in football.
MrRebelIious 2 years ago 2
Isn't that assault? I think he should be criminally charged. It was clearly on purpose for no reason. That's tampering with the victim's career. What's the difference between this and Tanya Harding? Banning him for first half. Ha. What a joke.

superchang847 2 years ago 2
i love football, but i don't think it will be around very much longer. head injuries are real, and affect people's lives detrimentally. also, cheating: eye gouging, stepping on people hands on purpose, rib punching, spitting, ball racking, etc. is well known in football. thats why those fights happen out there and you wonder why. this is cheating, one game suspension at least.

alfredoelhombre 2 years ago
its people with ideology like you that turn a good pure game into something evil. Where in the official rules of football is it said that one aspect of the game is to purposely injure your opponent? saying it is no big deal causes this kind of shit to keep happening, and if there were stricter punishments, like getting kicked out the league, it would stop. i'm sure many talented guys have had their careers ended because of UNNECESSARY ROUGHNESS.
jumar1281 2 years ago 4
Pure Game....lol...Have you ever played? Its a savage sport and the goal is to physically dominate. What do you call cutting lineman's knees? Is that pure??? You could tear a guy's ACL like that but its still allowed...Let's put some flags on em and have em hold hands....
sampson5507 2 years ago
Thank you sampson5507... I agree totally.
alfredoelhombre 2 years ago
Sorry smart guy. My thoughts on a sport are in no way representative of an ideology. Do you even know what an ideology is? A 26 word comment on whether him poking at someone's eye does not in any way constitute a ORGANIZED SYSTEM OF SOCIAL BELIEFS.Probably seemed really cool when you wanted to use that word didn't it? Well gave you a thumbs up because Ithink you are a little retarded and thus deserving of some positive feedback. Just don't take off your helmet when around walls.

NDstephan 2 years ago
I didn't say it was right but I played for 9 years in high school and college and 2 yrs of semi-pro . It's just part of the game, it's not always that obvious, but in a pile eye's get poked, fingers get broken and nut's get crushed! Thats just the way it is.
wade6906 2 years ago
If the league isnt gonna do anything...why does the coach HAVE to punish him?
TYT is upset with the punishment. What the fuck do you think the coach is gonna do to his own player.
Dont hate the player, hate the system which allows for such a conflict of interest, as opposed to a league sanctioned punishment...

Interesting. Meyer is, apparently, devoutly religious. And here I thought religion included a sense of personal responsibility.
eirefrance 2 years ago
Seems like, given the circumstances, that he was trying to "get away with" doing some illegal damage. Maybe it was "this for that".. dunno... Off the field, it would be a fairly serious crime that he might do time for, if he was trying to do actual damage. Football is a sport that damages some of the players quite badly. It's like "Roller Ball" or colliseum sports. Godd think they don't allow knives and brass knuckles.

It's football, people do things like that in the pile all the time.
Bitting, pinching, slapping, scratching all goes down in the pile.
Chimera1591 2 years ago
You are wrong. If you have listened, even Mike Golic said that there are lines that don't get crossed, or when they do, there are severe consequences. He is outraged by not only the actions, but by the ridiculous 1/2 game suspension. Every NFL player I have heard comment has confirmed his sentiment. They all agree you don't go for the knees, you don't grab privates, and you certainly do not gouge out people's eyeballs! Golic said he never went into anyone's facemask, or had anyone do it to him.
DavidDLPE 2 years ago
According to Brandon, he was only retaliating. I'm not justifying his actions. I said "Bitting, pinching, slapping, scratching all goes down in the pile.", I didn't say anything about eye gouging.
Chimera1591 2 years ago
You said: "It's football, people do things like that in the pile all the time." To make that statement in reference to this incident is tantamount to defending it. There is no defense. To what was Spikes retaliating? Did he have an injury? Where is the evidence that was done to him? And even if it were done to him, there are ways a MAN responds to things like that. Spikes is a punk thug. Criminal charges should be filed, and he should never see another NCAA athletic field except from the stands.
DavidDLPE 2 years ago
I meant when Jayar said he said someone ripped his helmet off, stuff like that happens in a pile all the time.
Chimera1591 2 years ago
Give the player a choice, season on the bench/home or let the other player have one free shot to three stoogies the guy on the fifty yard line at half time. If afterwords he can see let him play if not then he sits out.

Why is it up to that player's coach? That doesn't make any sense.
This player should be suspended for the rest of the season at least and the coach needs to be suspended as well. That other coach was suspended for his 'faggots' comment. This coach is allowing criminal conduct on the field.

wubbadubdub 2 years ago
There was a guy playing in the Australian Rugby League back in 2001 who stuck his thumb up the ass of some of the opponents in the scrum. When they complained to the ref and the video footage was replayed he was booted out for life. Now what's worse, ass or an eye socket. Half a game for a very serious eye injury is almost an insult.

a) why are we punishing people who voluntarily play a violent, contact sport?
b) are we going back to review every play, of every game to make sure nothing extra-curricular happens? then start handing out suspensions left and right to everyone who throws a late hit?
c) it happened in-game, the Oregon incident happened after the game was over, which is totally different.

football is mayhem... people have been turned to vegetables because free-safety's can take a guys head off when they arent looking... yet that's "part of the game"... in the end, no one got hurt...
jhansell 2 years ago
no, football is not mayhem. there are clear rules that fall well within criminal laws. assault is assault. felony blinding is felony blinding. professional sports is not a license to commit mayhem.
"people have been turned to vegetables because.."
"..in the end no one got hurt"
which is it? LOL
KataVideo 2 years ago
in this instance, no one got hurt... seems my grammar made my point moot...
you cant say that an overly violent sport isnt mayhem just because it has rules... we can dress it up and make it look pretty, but it is still mayhem...
I guess what I really want is a standard... there has to be standards for these things... if this instance is ripe for suspension for an entire season, then lets look over the tapes for every game this season and suspend everyone that hurts someone else
jhansell 2 years ago
I don't know of anyone turning into the vegetable, but poking someone's eyes out is not a legal football move. Yes it's a violent game, and no we shouldn't have to review every play for shit like this, but he was caught and he should be punished.
Now I'm not saying suspend him for the whole season, or some shit like that, just bench him for the whole damn game. Half a game suspension is
