When asked in the April/May 1980 Modern Drummer magazine about whether there is a message to this song, Peart said, "No. It was just a flash. I was working on an entirely different thing when I saw a cartoon picture of these trees carrying on like fools. I thought, 'What if trees acted like people?' So I saw it as a cartoon really, and wrote it that way."

@imbueto You're high if you think Black Sabbath failed after Ozzy. Heaven n' Hell and Mob Rules dwarf anything done by Ozzy backed Sabbath.

There are several parables to this song, The Trees. In it's purest form is liberation and just right of Society to recognize all kinds of people [trees] of their innate and noble right to live equally amongsts all classes of society [trees].

@magick1969 The Ozzy was much better with Ozzy than was with Dio, sorry man. Dio is just amazing, but the era with Ozzy to me was better.

And nice interpretation of the song man, seriously. I'v seen people comment on their take of the meaning of this song and I think I like to think of it like a poem, because like any good poem, it;s open to a variety of diferent interpretations.
