This business of the Scots avoiding the plague through isolation was thoroughly debunked in series 1 ("Gone to the Angels"). There some people who had no outside contact with the plague remained uninfected, until Greg, Abby and Jenny turned up. Then they caught the plague and died.
Those who are immune to the plague (like our heroes) were established as being carriers of it.
Most of the 150,000 would be living on borrowed time unless they remained permanently cut off from other people.
Why does the Laird have an English accent? My relatives are Scots so am familiar with their accents - his sounds English. I know that, centuries ago, when England wanted to ensure Scotland's loyalty - land and titles were taken from some Scots and given to the English or those loyal to England. So you'd have lairds who had English accents.
I'm just surprised to find a Scottish Laird in the 1970's with an English accent. Was there a social advantage to his 'posh' accent?
@MsZathras All Posh people/Land owner types in the UK hav the same accent, whether in Scotland or England. the actor, Iain Cuthbertson, was actually completely Scottish.
If the Scots got off so "lightly" much of the world should have to! The whole thing would have been more credible if more consistent with the over-arching bleakness of series one where 99% of humanity had been extinguished. I guess some Beeb executives decided the nation would prefer an improbable story of society quickly rebounding (relatively). Three years would be nothing in the original circumstances and things would have got much worse before they got better (if they ever did).
@matty1234ism There was so much more to tell. Series didn't have to end. It could even have recovered from the tragedy that was season 3, once they stopped the endless search for Greg.
To give variety they could have had them travel to various buildings in search of stuff and meet new people. This could be interspersed with core group at a farm. Lots of action and adventure was still possible as well as thought provoking stories. Hate to see it end like this.

I was amazed when I discovered Posh people in Scotland had virtually the same accent as Posh people in England about two years ago.

Why is this & how do so many pick up this accent vs. what many regard as a Scots' accent?
(I understand there's more than one Scottish accent- just like there's more than one US accent.)
Does the accent denote a certain class? (In the US accents denote region, not class.)
