Never get tired of this gem. I so love this video. Major props to who ever thought/took the time and effort to put this amazing arial footage with a perfect kick-ass song. kudos all day long!!
This reminds me of CITI FM in Winnipeg in the 14 months or so after they went on air (April 1978) and before "Bro. Jake's" anti-disco movement ended much of the innovation and variety the station had become known for among my high school peers. That magical period introduced me to this band and prompted me to buy the album. Of course, I may just be nostalgic for that old Marantz receiver with the big blue tuning dial that I had in my bedroom back then.
Ideally , you would like to get a missle off before your opponent gets one off on you and aircraft can't outrun missles . If you were to invade an opponent's airspace it would be a low-level attack below radar level . Therefore , it then becomes a turning battle and the first one to get a gunsight lock-on gets to put a few hundred rounds of 20mm through the enemy's canopy . In a high "G" turning battle , the stronger pilot gets to live . These pilot's know their land and have the advantage .
@prsjoe like as if one pilot would chase another pilo t!?!, they just shoot at them from 2-3 km away, they dont even see their enemy most of the time except for a blip on their sreen
Oh man. I remember the first chance I had to see FM live was when they opened for RUSH on September 2, 1979 at Varsity Stadium. Seeing RUSH was enough to floor me but finally seeing FM made that show one of the best concert experiences of my life.
Loved these guys.
Thanks very much for posting this. I appreciate it. :)
This song still takes my breath away 40 years later, am I really THAT old? I remember seeing this group at Ontario Place in the late '70's. The cinematography of this video is amazing too!
@cypresscoach "Phasors on stun" was released in 1977 by FM from the ablum "Black Noise."
Please tell me how FM ripped off Coldplay unless Chris Martin wrote a similar style of music as a fetus? Coldplay has ripped off countless bands including FM! Edwin is just plain horrible!
Christopher Martin (born 2 March 1977) is the lead vocalist of Coldplay.
@pikeasaurusrex Maybe his mother went to a F.M. live concert and he heard it then. After he was born he had a nagging thought that he was supposed to write a song...... :}
@cypresscoach Dude you are so dumb that I can't even wrap my head around it? Coldplay is one of the LEAST original bands ever and Edwin does not even count. There are far too many ignorant people on YouTube and on the planet that don't know shit about anything. This includes you...jr dumbass! Now pull yer head out of you ass and listen and learn and maybe you will learn something. At the very least google first and do your research before making a fool out of yourself!
What an awesome tune!!!...I play my drums to this song all the time. Martin Deller is an excellent drummer, I would put him up with the best rock drummers, for e.g. Neil "The Professor" Peart. I think Neil would agree with me on that, seeing as they are friends
seeing this video brings back memories of long ago when i first heard it in the mid 70s all high and thinking or imaging how it would look on film back then no vids. seeing this video was a good experince of the past.
When FM was trying to get their 1st record deal, no one wanted them. The CBC put out album 1 taking a big chance. First time I heard POS on a new FM Rock station, I ran out and bought the album.I wasn't alone. In a day when Disco ruled, they were way ahead of their time. That first album sounds as good today as it did 30 years ago. It fits today's Industrial Techno! I had the record, then the cassette, then the CD and now sits on my HD in MP3. It will be on every device I buy in the future.
what kind of a "chance" does the cbc take when it is a crown corporation. You the taxpayer took the chance and you lost. Any time the fucking government sticks their finger in anything they fuck it up. FM didnt need a record contract to be real artists.
I've seen the CBC waste a hell of a lot more money on many less worthwhile things. CanCon was supposed to help Canadian Artists, but in the end it made it harder for them reach the international stage. I agree that the gov screws up when they try to compete with the private sector. I can think of many extremely talented Canadians who were not accepted in this country until they were big hits in Europe...Rush, Saga etc. A record deal is the difference between an artist and a STARVING artist.
FM! By reading the other comments, I understand they were fairly well known in their native Canada, but here in NY, I think me and a few of my friends were just about the only people that knew anything about them. A seriously underrated band here in the States, as was TPOH!
I saw FM live at the old Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto in 1981 when they opened for Rush. It was during Rush's Moving Pictures tour. FM was quite good. Two things I remember clearly, Rush was loud (as usual) but FM was even louder! I also remember the red LED tracer lights on Nash's violin bow. Looked cool in the dark.
Great video concept for this song! Get the LP, CD or whatever. The whole album drives and drives and drives to the finish as few albums do. It leaves you sonically spent. The Stun on the album is better though. This music lifts you up and energizes!
I love this song. Used to play on the radio in Louisiana years ago. I discovered it again listening to radio staions in Canada on line since Houston, Texas where I live has the worst radio stations.
DAMN this is an awesome tune!!!! Like one of the comments below, I get chills when I hear this song. The jet pilot video really helps give you a bit of an adrenaline rush. Who needs coffee - if you need a kick, just watch this video and listen to the music. Thank you so much for sharing this gem!
After all these years, I still get chills whenever I hear this song. What a great rendition. The Jet pilot theme lends itself nicely to this song. Some really nice footage there.
Phasors on Stun --- one of my favourite songs of all time. So much talent comes out of Canada. Rush, Saga, Triumph, Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies, Gowan, Tom Cochrane, Kim Mitchell/Max Webster, April Wine, FM ... shall I go on. Amazing talent!
Great muscians in FM Shame tho that Cameron Hawkins has a bad reputations as a total prick!.Martin Deller tho drummer supreme that he is a super nice guy!.
