  • @elfhermie your exactly right!!! I just listen to the basic line and do what I feel comfortable with

  • There's no "right" or "wrong" way to play music. You can add fills, slow stuff down, play on different frets, etc. Why do so many imbeciles on youtube want to be copycat musicians and play exactly like the original artists even to the point of needing certain notes to be played on the exact same frets? It's ridiculous. Keep on with the lessons, man. Screw those non-thinking, uncreative, closed minded dolts.

  • hey thanks a ton!! I've been wanting to learn this on my bass forever :-) please keep it up with bass instructions. I am def subscribing

  • thanks dude, helped me heaps

  • thaaanks! :)

  • voodoo economics, anyone?anyone? the grat depression period....anyone??

  • Bueller.... Bueller... Bueller...

I did not know Ben Stein played the bass.

  • wrong..... wrong.....wrong....

  • Very bad, you play the song in the wrong way.

  • you are wrong broi jajajaja and noob for lessons

  • Helped alot!

thanks a heap. Wonderfully done. :)

  • make more quick tip vids. i needed that last tip.

  • omg im again here lol, sorry but this is noob's lesson ^^

  • Great Video. I like the way you broke it down to parts.

  • thank you very much

  • You can censor it in the options if it bothers you.

  • Shouldn't have to ...its just sad people with no regard for other people's sensibilities ,most of the offenders wouldn't swear in front of their mother...so why abuse me and other people and their kids...just no need guys!!.

  • Well if you don't, it's your own fault. You can't stop people from swearing. Just get over it, they're only words. No sense being offended by words. Especially if you're reading those words on the internet.

  • Hey thanks a lot that really helps!

  • Thank you so much. You are a great teacher.

  • thanks a lot maan

  • Good lesson man. Nice to see that people take the time to make these vids. They're truly helpful.

You might want to get your fingerstrength or accuracy up. you are slightly sloppy. also your rythms a bit of. only trying to help here. it's still very cool that you make these vids

  • such a big hands!!!

  • close but after you play with the f chord it goes to b not b#, well at least i think it sounds better

even though im a year late lol

  • i don't know why you ppl have to hate so much on this guy... seriously why the fuck are you watching this video? it's meant for those that don't know how to play it so they can get a rough idea on how to play the song... so what if there's a few messed up notes. If you're all as "good" and "flawless" as you say then upload your own god damn video.

    All shit aside,

Thanks a lot for this video man, picked it up in less than 5 minutes :)

    5 stars from me.

  • you fail so hard and it's sad because your probably ten years older than me.

  • wrong

  • giant hands...thanks for the lesson

  • Good tutorial, easy to follow.

The notes before the hammer on are E G E E not E G twice. etc.

    It's not C# after you play it in F it's B f# b(octave)

  • bet i couldn't play that. well actually it's pretty simple but i'd have to practice alot. thanks anyways though pretty cool

  • its awesome

  • ah.. my cousin taught me this a few years back.. haven't forgotten it since :) good stuff lots of fun to play

  • I was able to pick this up in about 45 mins! Awesome stuff man! Hope you post more vids. I'm excited to learn!

  • umm i just got a bass guitar anyone know wat fingering there are cuz im stuck

  • stick to 1 finger per fret. so here use 1 and 3.

    although im 7 months late.

  • Good Lesson, Easy to understand and learn from thank you

  • haha i dont wanna be annoying cuz its been said before but he sounds exactly like ben stein

  • wow your lessons are so easy to understand i thank you keep teaching on youtube...mabye you could put up some scales cause i dont know many!

  • awesome thanks!!!

  • ↓ lmfao.

  • wow clear eyes

  • LOL yea!

  • thanks for the bass lesson Ben Stein, damn you sound a lot like him

  • check out my bass lesson

  • Bueller....Bueller......

  • umm...this is wrong

  • sounds like ben stien

  • Vale la pena verlo!!

  • WRONGGGGGG!!!!!

how bout u listen to the song before u try to teach it to evryone!!!!

its two eigths dotted quarter-eigth- dotted quarter- two eigths- eighth rest- 4 sixteenths they run throughout bars so it wont line right up with a full measure. and the notes r extremely wrong... and dont play on the bridge to make it sound bright.. get a pre- amp, head , or filter

  • stfu bitch, look at you, you can't even give the proper name for a musical note. and eighth is a called a demi semi quaver. and a quater is a semi quaver. you try to act like your really smart, but you don't seem smart at all. go learn your music theory before you try dissing other people.

  • One whole note for a bar of 4/4. Therefore, wholenote = semibreve

Two halfs, so halfnote = minim

    Four quarters, quarter = crotchet.

Eight eighths, so eighth = quaver.

  • I don't agree with 0mansoon0, but you sir don't know theory for shit. An eighth is a quaver, and a quarter,(spell it right pls), is a crotchet. Sorry.

  • do you feel better now

  • thank you man.

  • is he using a pick popslapping or fingering ?

    plz comment back

  • sounds like finger style.

  • i think i heard a pick coming on the string. but it could be finger too

  • it's a pick but who gives a shit? people can play how they want

neither one sounds better because you can't compare them.

    it's like apples to oranges.

  • ok, when moving from the b to the e and back again you should be rolling your finger, not lifting it. and you need to work on your hammer-ons, they're rather lame.

  • dude, no offense, it doesn't sound right.

Allowing for like, artistic interpretation/modification it would still be a good bassline for the song, but it's not the exact one from the song.

  • you teach well i picked up on this fast and i have a learning disorder!

  • LMAO!!! WTF!?!?!? (MUDKIPS RULE!!!)

Nicely taught. Pretty cool riff to.

  • lol

  • haha, your voice sounds a little like Ben Stein's

  • there are a mistake on B cord...fatal mistake...

  • nice. thanks!!

  • can you teach me how to play the pokemon theme song!?

  • Man, that just made me giggle.

  • no offence bro but u just screwd victor damiani's riffs. anyway useful vid!! :)

  • this guy sounds like ben stein lol

  • thanks for help but there are some mistakes :) tnanks anyway

  • thanks that was very useful

  • it was very usefull thank you

  • Yes, I sound like Ben Stein. I also hear he has a big schlong. And no, my lessons are not perfect, and I never intend on making them perfect either!

  • Uggh. Learn Simandl so you can use all four fingers.

  • lol for dry red eyes clear eys is awsome. he sounds like that dry eyes guy.

  • Ben Stein :D

  • thax i didnt kno that name

  • true true

  • you need to use your pinky, more.

  • at least u were nice about it

  • Better form would be to hit your octaves with your pinky though...

  • he's got huge hands, if you can make that reach with your ring finger without having to lift your index, you should, because the ring finger is stronger than the pinky and has less chance to buzz the fret or otherwise give bad tone.

I certainly can't do it. I have to use my pinky. heh.

  • Eh, I disagree. With hands that big, the pinky should easily be able to hit the octave without buzz. It's just better form.

  • Did.. did you really just reply to a year-old conversation? that's dedication, man.

  • the rythmn *spelling? is definately different from cakes version and when your doing the E to E7 change thing thats just off in fact I dont think you even play E,E7 sounds good but its not cakes version

  • I am a beginner, I love this, give him a break guys.

  • Watch this guy: Djame311

    good luck

  • but man, that's wrong, the notes are right, rythmns wrong. listen to the song again.

  • this guy has posted several slightly incorrect bass lessons. it's better than nothing, anyone with any kind of ear for music at all should be able to tell what's wrong and fix it on their own after this.

    hopefully.

  • You sound definitely sound like Santino from

    Project Runway XD

  • MAN! you sound like ben stein!

  • LOLOL

  • i commend you for trying to teach.

but that isn't even close to the way it should be.

my opinion. i'll back it up if you want.

  • jezus, can it be even slower? just make people find their own tones, make them press pauze instead of making the other halve wait for 10 minutes.

  • s*** bigist 00 teacher... he can nothing^^

  • hehe nr.1 gay song..

  • lol :D its true

  • not a bad choice, but some Queensryche would be better!!!!!!!!

  • you sound like mark when you talk lol..

  • The funniest thing is, that you spend sooo much time learing people to play a bassline, which you don't even play correct. That's funny to me. Listen to the original song from Cake and try and get the notes right next time...haha

  • CAKES'S VERSION of "I Will Survive"

    Shh

  • love that fuzzbass and the fuzzteacher... oh yeahr

  • YOU SOUND LIKE BEN STEIN!

  • lol you're right!!!!

  • cool, i love the bass

  • It's funny I should run into this, I worked it out today! It's a good song to mess around with, simple but funky. It's a bit of an RSI, song, though.

  • this lesson helped a lot thanks for the lesson

  • nice voice ;)

  • too fast? lol.. you can watch it as many times as you want. But I guess its easier if u already play.

This is good stuff.. thanks man <3

  • Wow dude, you are a horrible bass player. No timing, no groove, no feel. To anyont that needs to be shown how to play this ridiculously easy line, give up. Try a new hobby.

  • you are a douche. good lesson fevasowl.

  • Sobre todo por que predicas con el ejemplo, fevasowl al menos puso un video y tu no tienes ni uno, asi que no creo que toques excelentemente bien el bajo jajaja.

  • Lighten up. This is obviously aimed at beginners. We all were beginners once.

  • arrogant popeye smeagol man

  • neither is your mom

  • wish i had a bass

  • This is an in depth tutorial. Thanks.

  • i dig it man !

  • Nice job slimlim000, sounds good!

  • that was awsome! got anymore?

  • Awsome,helped alot!

  • Thanks for the lesson, it certainly was clear and inspiring. Keep it up.

  • esta mal eso loco!

  • this is one of the best lessons I've found. Most of 'em just show a guy playin without any hows are whys. thanks, man

  • the bass gutair is da koolest instrument ROCK ON!!!

  • Nice job. It might help if you preface this lesson with: Here's a variation of the most basic of blues riffs that has existed since the invention of the electric bass. Check out Tax Man by the Beatles.... I'm just sayin' ;)

  • This was one of the first riffs i learned that was beyond the "easy" realm. Only I can't play it anymore cuz im missing the g string.

  • Hey, not bad... But your "B" note on the D string is actually and "F#" (right around 3:55). And the actual bass line Cake plays is a bit different(more random if you will)... The hammer-ons arent as often, double-ing the strum on the notes in-between changes. But it would "pass specifications" on a live stage.

  • shteever u are correct, it's just the framework really that players can improvise on. Every time I do this song "live" I ad-lib

  • damn i need to learn this i'm goin to play a bass guitar starting today or tomorrow

  • goovin bass line but you need to work on your tone

  • don't you love that there are folks that have nothing better to do with their life than go and randomly bash on people that are being constructive on youtube so we have random crap to read in between good remarks

thanks for the good little lesson here :)

  • thats a sweet bassline, better than those guys who think they are badass playing super fast..

  • i like it ! keep teaching us dude ! you're so calm , and cool ! greetings from italy

  • yea, it's too bad they can't write the same damn song 60 times like AC/DC.

  • Cake sucks! Cake needs to write their own songs so i can say those suck too!

  • If you don't like them you don't have to flame them. I personally like their version of I will Survive. That bass riff is awesome.

  • thankyou so much!

  • Ibanez Soundgear, nothing special

  • Good bass!

    And a good work.

    Keep playing and teaching.

  • what kind of bass is that

  • tricky but cool

  • if you suck , you teach

  • good stuff

  • thx mate, keep up the good work!

  • sorry about that post, i got hacked.

  • nice one man thanks
