@The123oz999 - Too many injuries mate, like a lot of good Kiwi bowlers. For some reason they keep breaking down! a real shame as Bond was so good to watch. Plus he was quite old when he came into the NZ team....
on his day, in my opinion, he was probably the most destuctive bowler in international cricket. its a great shame that he spent most of his career injured otherwise he would have been up there with Hadlee as New Zealands greatest fast bowler.
test cricket requires greal level of fitness.its good for a fast bowler to quit playing test matches and focus on limited overs cricket,if he wants to have a long career
i was not saying he was a chucker or bowling illegally! wat im saying is one of the reasons he was so injury prone is because of his action. Dont get me wrong, i agree he was a great bowler.
well with a bowling action like his ur only asking for injuries, but my god he certainly was pretty sharp through the air. A real shame he couldnt have played more tests cause he was good to watch.
are you kidding me? shane bond has probably the most legal arm delivery of all cricketers known to man kind....shoaib and everyone else chucks while bond mcgrath marshall akram used to deliver properly....bond would bowl legal deliveries consistently at the 93-96 mark
i feel sorry for bond, and i consider him as one of the greatest fast bowler emerged in last 10 years, sad too many injuries caused him to reduced his career but still i am his huge fan
@The123oz999 The reason for him retiring was his action. His back collapses in the follow through. And he should have been more up right. If he had a better action he would of been the best bowler in the world.
in my mind shane bond is one of the tragedies of world cricket. his career was wrought with injuries. if he had played for another 5 years or so there's no doubt in my mind he would go down as one of the greats of the game.
That's from the first test of the Pak vs NZ series, right? That really was one of the best test matches I've ever seen - even if I had to ruin my day/night cycle for a week to get through it :D
@The123oz999 he was getting far too many injuries from playing the longer form. Thus he chose to play the shorter form so he can play cricket for a longer period of time.
@CricDilan007 .. and then quit that too a few months later..
I personally was gutted when he gave up, didn't understand why he worked so hard to get back and then to give it up so early afterwards. Must have been something to do with the bombings in India during the IPL season.
However when he played he bowled his heart out, he wasn't any pussy like Shoaib Ahktar, Bond was hard core, bowling over 150 clicks with a strained abdominal... Legend.
@Plowcow now this comment against akhter was uncalled for, if u compare bond with akhter then do it on justified parameters, bond cant even reach the height of akhter, akhter is a next level bowler he even @ the age of 36 was faster the lee , and tait, forget about bond, i being a pakistani admire and adore bond but sorry ur comment against akhter was in ridicules tone , the truth is shoaib akhter is the best thing happened to fast bowling.
shame shane bond never maneged to fulfill his potential as a test bowler. he averaged 21 when he retired better than all the other top 10 test bowlers in the ICC test rankings. better than: steyn, Johnson, murali, asif, anderson etc...

This test injured him again. Vettori bowled him way too much is this test and he broke down again. So he retired.

In an era filled with medium pace trundlers, this guy was a joy to watch. His action was just awesome as well.
New zealand won 10 out of the 18 tests he played. Showed how much NZ depended on him.

i read a stat somewhere that he won 10 out of 18 of his test or something and NZ's winning record is very poor so that just goes to show something

This was Bond's last test ! He only played 18 of them ! He couldn't play for two years because he signed for ICL and he was injured a lot.
But hey when he did play he was world class, especially against the Aussies !!!
Bowled Shane !
