The fundamental rule i have been taught from the quran, prophets, etc.. is to question, not only my religion, but also every other religion until i am satisfied with the outcome. The main religions being: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. And if you think about it carefully, you will realise that they all have the same fundamental laws, which is respect your peers (both those younger and older), have moral values, and educate yourself to be able to differentiate between what is right and what is wrong.
