@chicagocanine I agree with it as well, the organ seems to add to its appeal. Also the carousel appears to be moving a little too slow. By the way do you know any wood carvers with the carousel construction experience?
If you're sensitive to motion the way I am, if you stand on the railing, after a few moments it will genuinely feel like YOU'RE the one spinning around the carousel. It's an excellent feeling!
lets see...I saw a dog thing a zebra centaur a small centaur, a unichorn a mermaid something that looks like ither an angel or a....uhm I forgot how you call those half woman half birds things a lion a dragon something that looks like a wolf a hippocampus and elephant man it's an entire zoo in there
i use to work at the house on the rock and all of the animals are made wood and came from many other carousels they use to let people ride it but it took so long to start and stop the line would never end
I doubt seriously if these are the original animals. The artists at HOTR have obviously made fiberglass reproductions of many animals and simply designed new ones. This is not a crime--if you see the machine in person, it is simply a wonderful piece of pure American kitsch.
I love that place, I've been going to House on the Rock since I was little, it just get weirder and mouldier each time! I'm convinced that man was mad, but I still love it.
this thing is wierd.Which drunk wasted a month or 2 making this???There's no organ or centre engine,Just a bunch of animals going around with no one on it.Come to the uk for the best roundabouts
The menagerie is incredible! I can see why they don't allow riders on it but it would be nice if they could eventually make copies of these magnificiant beasts and put the wooden ones on display in the museum, and that way, if they wanted to increase their tourism by allowing people to ride the carousel, they could use the copies as riding animals instead of the original ones. Of course with that many it would take a long time to do that.
This carousel is 35 feet tall, 80 feet wide and weighs 35 tons.
There are no people on it (no 'real' people anyway.) They don't allow anyone to ride it unfortunately. Probably because the animals are old and fragile.
i beleive the center of america (not completly sure if thats what it was havnt read it in a while) was real but he moved it slightly from itss description so it wouldnt become tourist infested
I agree with the answers that consider this carousel is a bit creepy, it's the bloody music (I know it's a bit of a pun).

@DrBCorwen Yes it is a bit creepy, but in a cool way IMO. Also the music is quite LOUD in person!

I went here a lot when I was little, and I was always disappointed that we weren't allowed on the carousel.

If you all will take note: There is "NOT" one horse on this carousel,......The "House on the Rock" is a very strange & interesting place to visit.
