  • Blur kicks ass, but this is terrible.

  • Recorded for NME compilation CD called Ruby Trax, not heard this in a while.

    Thanks for upload

  • not so good as the original...

bands are doing well, but vocal sounds shit

  • The fucking dog's got more charisma than these purile wankers.

  • @maddalicex you're the only purile wanker here.

  • I use to play this version all the time in my local estate pub 'Spotted Dog' in Hull, way in back 1993. (Was a very average dj). The punters use to want the Rod Stewart version, but I give em this one instead ! Still love it to this day and Graham Coxon's guitar at about 1.42 sounds on purpose 'sloppy but neat'. Thanks LOOPID77 for uploading this !

  • Omg to propper needs less articulation

  • fucking depressing song

  • What a load of pathetic crap. Good lord - bring back proper bands.

  • @maddalicex ....go on then name afew 'proper bands' then?

  • @modsheff1 Any band that is not a bunch of schoolkids saying: "Listen to us - ain't we got attitude like them Americans we try an' sing like". Pathetic.

  • @maddalicex

This cover was recorded by Blur almost two decades ago, and the original version was written and recorded by by Rod Stewart four fucking decades ago. Blur subsequently went on to enjoy universal acclaim for ten years after recording their Maggie May cover. So get a clue, cheesedick.

  • @davesmith7891 So what? This version is as weak as your reply.

  • @maddalicex

I know - this is a very run-of-the-mill cover of a shit song. But you commented as if it a) had only just been released and b) showed Blur at their absolute best.

  • @davesmith7891 But it is not a very shit song, so your comments are worthless.

  • alex wasnt down with rod stewart..so he isnt playing bass on this. :)

  • the bassist hated rod stewart. so he isnt playing on this track.

  • I love this version, I have for a long, long time now. But my gosh, would I be wrong to say that the backing instrumentation sounds like late '70s FLEETWOOD MAC?!?! Listen to Graham's guitar at 3:29 and I swear that sounds like something Lindsey Buckingham would have done!

  • i adore both versions. damon does it with a wistful nostalgia of a sweet schoolboy all grown up, thinking back to better times with maggie. pogues' is shockingly tortured, more tumultuous "adult" relationship gone wrong with maggie. both are valid it's all a matter of taste.

  • The Pogues cover is way better

  • I prefer Graham's Solo but as whole yeah its nothing compared to the original but then it was never meant to be anything more than a b-side.

  • One of cases when a cover is better. Another one is "Living For The City" by Da' Books.

  • Crikey this is crap!

  • Blur is kind of a gay band, but this cover is ok

  • murdered this.

  • pretty rare? oO What? it's terrible. They have only destroyed the song! Rod Stewart over all.

  • @Louhuuu

I can't share ur idea. Even despite the fact an original version was oh-so fucking cool! Good job, Blur!

  • awsome!!!!! love it

  • dont get me wrong i love blur but this cover is a bit lame :\ its still blur though and its good!!!

  • WHOA

  • mmm...I love them, but Rod's version is waaay better

  • like it ~ it sounds a bit sedated though

  • Good but not Great. Rod will always have this one.

  • good but rod stewarts cannot be replaced

  • so good.

  • so naturally sound.

  • Great. They should have made a big deal out of this cover cos' it rocks!

  • Have you heard Rod Stewarts version... this is shit in comparison!

  • Sounds alright acctually!

  • they dont have a clue? hmm, ok then..

  • liked the cover (:

  • g r e a t ~ love the dog too.

  • I love this cover song! I was 14 when I heard the song! Nice!!...(I´m almost 30)

  • If youre gonna cover a guy with a great voice (say what you like about his taste-in song choice, women or clothes) you would want to either not change much but have a better voice, or if you have a tinny crap voice but lots of imagination, production talent and taste do something completely different. But if youre just gonna take to many downers and plod on as if its a 9 to 5 you shouldnt waste youre or anyone elses time...

  • PS: the pogues wipe the floor with whomsoever they please on this one...

  • PPS. blur occassionally writes their own music 99% of the time

  • mos definitely true!

  • ooo i thought this song was from blur, cause it's one of my favorites of them

  • i usually dont like to jump in, especially since im surrounded by british but..

Alex isn't in fact on this cover as he wasn't really into the whole idea of playing a rod stewart song.

so yeah, coxfire at the bottom said something about a synth..yeah..absolutely right.

  • i love this song, i introudced my dad to Blur and he loves them!

  • i think this is a great cover. i love blur! they are dressed cool as fuck in that pic too

  • when i first saw the title, I thought it was the beatles' maggie may haha

  • awesome guys ~ love the alternative syle too.

  • Beautiful song¡¡¡¡¡

  • This is awful the song only suits rod stewarts voice

  • WHAT!? sorry, but thats bullshit, this song is great!

  • this song by blur is better than rod stewart version...damon's voice is marvellous...

  • nah rod stewart is so much more smoother and classic.... if that makes any sense...ll

  • i've seen Rod Stewart about two weeks ago in Harrods in London and took a picture with him.He was nice :) By the way,i like this cover!

  • can a real brit explain to me exactly what accent this is? sounds like something ive never heard before

  • it sounds like london to me

  • Southern accent

  • deep english accent.

    essex?

  • Yup, Essex accent, but then I'm not familiar with it =)

  • im from coventry, n we sound like damon here

  • its not crap, its brilliant

  • Alex does not play on this. He hates Rod Stewart so much. He did not show up in the studio when they recorded the song.

  • I guess it was Graham then... I hate Rod Stewart's Voice so much, but his songs are okay, so I like this B-side!

  • No the bass line was done with a keyboard..

  • good version

  • its alright but you really can't mess perfection. Rod Stewarts happy-go-lucky's delivery just makes the song.

  • but he wrote it and composed it, right? i mean, if you think about it, most every cover's got some elements of the song and lacks others. in a way all the covers of it are more about seeing what little bits of rod influenced the band that's covering him the most

  • this was the b-side of the girls and boys cassingle.

  • No; it was the b-side on the 'Chemical World' 7"

  • @thischarmingmartin i've got it right in front of me now- it's the B side of the US cassingle of 'girls and boys'

  • @maryandchild Maybe in the US, but here in the UK, it was the b-side on the 7" version of the 'Chemical World' single.

  • @thischarmingmartin yes- that is why i said "the US cassingle"

  • Comment removed

  • crap? its one of the best versions ive heard

  • Can you send me the mp3?

    please?

  • Blur's version should have been included in guitar hero 2!

  • muy buena version, esta mejor la de los faces igual.

  • thats what she said!

  • oh shit!

  • lol

  • i like this cover better than O.G.

  • I've got this on a CD it was the b-side to Chemical World

  • you can find it on the rare album "another side of...blur"

  • @loopid77 sucks.

  • @loopid77 Or on the Girls And Boys Single

  • I like the original but Blur is the greatest band of all time, so I´m loving this one!!I love Blur....definitely.

  • where can I find this song? I've searched for it and I can't find it anywhere!

  • It was on the "RUBY TRAX - The NME'S Roaring Forty" 3 CD set released in 1992.

It was issued to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the NME as consisted of various then current bands doing covers of songs that had been No.1 during the 40 years of NME's existence.

  • one of my favorites!

  • Thanks for posting it, man.

I was craving Blur's Maggie May, and it wasn't on Youtube! I actually came on to post it!

    Nooiice song.

  • i'll be posting some more rare blur songs soon
