There seems to be a lot of debate. I just read that Nookie, Full Nelson and some other stuff is played on a 4-string tuned to F# F# D D. I've been trying to figure out for the last hour or so how that's possible. Also, I read that his 7-string is tuned crazy too. I'm sure you can play the song any way you want. I was just trying to figure out the whole 4-string thing.

the f#1 is a bass string the rest are normal

as this is a bit crazy and you wouldnt have your normal player like this a good way to get to this is a 7 string guitar as the gauges are more suited as for a 6 string the gauges to reach that tuning are more rare and uncommon, so a 7 string guitar perfect choice, and a 7 stirng is a 6 string also so you cant go wrong :)

another thing if ur curious the numbers there are the octaves, and for your top 2 strings just have it any tuning you want as the top two strings are not used, or top 3 if your using a 7 string guitar

the two F#'s are one octave apart. Wes used a .85 gauge bass string for the low F#. he used this same setup in Full Nelson, The One, and Stalemate.
