This piece has always kind of annoyed me because the opening sounds like a poor imitation of the beginning of the Bruch concerto which was written just a few years before. Sounds like plagiarism to me.
@Grobanite122549 That's great! It's a good audition piece. I hope you've started on it. Two months is about right for preparation. You might want to get my full video :-)
Good luck. Tomorrow I leave for Bolivia for five weeks. Best regards.
@kaileyxix14 Depends... I found this in piece in my grade 8 practical book.... Hmm... Just 3 years of violin playing... This concerto is very easy compared with other violin concerto which are above DIPLOMA level....
Great lesson. Reminds me of the good old days when I could stop playing and tell my teacher "I have no idea what I'm doing, show me!", now I'm stuck in college being told "I don't care if you don't know how, figure it out, I'll show you once and you better never forget it". Also, mr. sonne, would you play the triplet part in first or second position?
Hi akm, I assume you mean the passage at bar 133. I play it in first position. I had never thought about playing it in second. I tried it out today. It's an interesting idea. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I guess it could go either way. Here's hoping you and your teacher can work things out between you.
I would say it would take one or two years to progress from the Vivaldi A Minor concerto to the Accolay. If you are really able to cope with the Vivaldi Concerto after only one year then you are a very fast learner and/or a very hard worker. On the other hand, it is possible that you are overreaching a bit by playing the Vivaldi after only one year. Are you working with a private teacher, and if so, what does your teacher say?
In any case, best wishes with your violin studies.
I've been playing for almost 40 years now, but I remember playing the Vivaldi Cto in A minor (Op. 3, No. 6) after only a year -- but I practiced my ass off -- around 4 or 5 hrs per day -- to the neglect of my school studies! I worked hard enough (with the help and encouragement of my teacher) to play the piece from memory at a CMEA festival and win a Superior Command Performance award.
If you continued practicing that way you must be quite a violinist. I don't know anybody who has played only a year, is studying the Vivaldi Concerto and practices 4 or 5 hpd.
so would you say learning/being able to play the vivaldi concerto at 7-9 months of playing is a good pace? (I am a music major in college and violin is my 6th instrument) because now I'm at 11 months, and I'm about to start this accolay piece with my instructor tomorrow...I am excited to start this piece i find it to be beautiful...at times i feel im not progressing fast enough...
If you've only been playing 11 months and you're playing this.... you are progressing very fast! However.... that being said, I'm sure you're probably playing pieces that are far too difficult for you. Try going back to really master well just 1rst position in like books 2-4 in suzuki. There is a lot of good technique to learn in the Seitz concertos before Accolay. Just all in 1rst position so you can play it well. then go to Accolay.
Yes, I played it many times after that -- it is a wonderful piece. I later went on to learn the Baroque violin and played all the other Ctos from Vivaldi's Op. 3 -- I came to discover why the works are titled "Harmonic Heat," (L'estro armonico) -- they are very hot (sensual) harmonically and quite exquisite in their craftsmanship.
Thanks...also is there any way to buy this full length video at a local music/violin store?.. because I'd rather not go through the whole shipping thing... Thanks so much:)
1:01-1:06 sounds like Bruch's violin concerto 1st movement; somewhere in the beginning of it

@Gregorius24- i started to play at 11years. and at 12 a was playing vivaldi a minor . it was quite troublesome. just like you xD
i'm 14 years old now i i played bach a minor accolay and i had to work out 3rd moviment of vivaldi.
it's quite awsome that you played it too at the same time i did. did you ever had to play it again after that?
