there are no such elegent song nowerdays anymore, kinda sad~~~dutch music recently sucks, even my dutch friends can not name a one in their mothertongue for me, but good thin g is i found this . thanks so much ~~~
Sad that nowadays the Eurovision contest is no more in the different languages but mostly in english. I really like the english language but all the different european languages are are geat treasure we must keep for the future. Europe is so special for its many different cultures. That is our strength!
i heard this song when i was 18 , i loved it so very much back then, that i wanted a copy , its taken 30 yrs on to enjoy it again , its made my day ...
The song and performance are both very good, but I find it odd that she did something very offbeat and unusual in 1974 and then came back with something extremely conventional. I prefer "I See A Star" personally!
Maybe conventional is the wrong word, but to me this is very Eurovision French-Diva. With Mouth & Macneal she was this glam rock chick like Suzi Quatro.
This has become one of my favourite Eurovision tunes to not win the contest. Even though I don't speak a word of Dutch I know it communicates a positive message about the Dutch capital.
NO country has continually sent quality acts - tey have all sent crap "novelty" entries at some point! Even Iceland ( when?) try your early entries - crap!
I agree. In the beginning stages of the voting, it looked as though it would do just that. Unfortunately that wasn't to be, but at least she got a respectable 5th place.
Yes, Seth still stalks this woman - she now lives in a convant in Outer Mongolia, to escape his reach. The last straw was when he sent her naked drawings of himself......bad dog bad dog - get in your basket!
Amazing... I totally agree with your words, setheurovision... "One of my Dutch favourites, and one of my very favourites from 1980. A very classy, dramatic song, and a truly great performance by Maggie McNeal." This should have won!
In the early stages of the voting it looked as though it would do just that, before their streak thinned out and in the end they had slipped to 5th. But still, as you say, this is a magnificent song.

This is such a magical and enchanting song =) Best of 1980 by far and one of the best songs ever in eurovision, I love "Amsterdam" so much

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This is a very nice song but actually very conventional.
Should I remind you that in this 80 springtime, Madness were at the top.
AMsterdam is an out-of-time song that could performed in 1956 !

netherlands, to get back on top, you need songs like this :)
your friends,
United Kingdom
(and yes, we aren't exactly not-guilty for bringing bad acts to the eurovision...sometimes we have been terrible :P)

Dear all! Could you help me to find this song in English version? I know it performed by man. It very important!
Thank you in advance.
MKondrashova 3 years ago
In my opinion, in 1980 were only 3 great songs:
1. Katja Ebstein - Theater (should have won!)
2. Maggie MacNeal - Amsterdam (5th place? What a underrated song!)
3. Paola - Cinema
krzykul 3 years ago
And there were 3 funny songs
1. Morocco - no comments
2. Belgium - first song about the contest itself
3. Luxembourg - it' the precursor of the Junior eurovision
XPooh3r 2 years ago
why was morocco "funny" ? i thought they had a great song and deserved a much higher position than the one they got...

it's funny because it deserved a higher position LOL

Is she also from The Netherlands ?

In 1980 at least three songs were better then the winner:
Amsterdam by Maggie
Theater by Katja
Cineman by Paola.
I wonder how much the record company bribed to make Logan the winner.
He was simply outclassed...
