  • Happy New year, girl in a cafe, you rock!!

  • I WOULD love :">someone like her if she would sing to me before bedtime :(((( :X:X:X:X:X

    bedtime :)))yeah I"m a pervert :)))

  • Wow. Loved it

  • Ahhh amazing heheh lol though i normally see geisha play the shamimasen while entertaining.. People. She is pritty xD she would be a pritty geisha

  • 9 people listen to 50 cent lol.

  • @mrsockesocke or worse

  • I want to move, Got a rich auntie ?

  • Marry me!!!

  • Are the shamisen's breakable, and what kind of shamusen do u have? I want to get the tsugaru shamisen, but their pretty expensive.

  • @SaraiS23 Yeah, I guess like any instrument they are breakable. The "drum" is the probably the most fragile part. It's sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. I had one tear over summer. Nearly $400 (40,000 yen) to get repaired. The pegs that adjust the strings can also crack or break if you drop it. The wood is pretty solid, though.

I have a tsugaru and yes, they are expensive. You can get a practice one made from lighter karin (quince) wood for $500 - $900.

  • @SaraiS23 They also come apart in three pieces for easy transport. there are grooved cuts in two places in the neck that allow you to disassemble it.

  • Encoru! Encoru! Encoru!

  • ive gotta get myself a shamisen

  • @JooSooConfusoo no staircase of satan. only its not a staircase well call it that just for effect :D

  • Simply beautiful.

  • its like pick slapping

  • what is the thing called you pick the strings with?!?

and is it possible to play without it?

  • @HECKproductions It's called a bachi and you need it to play the shamisen.

  • @grooble ok thanks

  • @grooble it's like a guitar pick isn't it but it kinda looks like a fan :) I'd love to learn to play this instrument!

  • @grooble theyr also good for getting the ice off your windshield

  • @HECKproductions It would be possible... but you wouldn't get the same sound at all. You could probably use a plectrum. If you were going to get a shamisen you should really get all the gear, and probably get a few ばち (Bachi) just because they look pretty flimsy.

  • I love japanese instruments :V

  • SHAMISEN HEROOO!!!

  • that was great.

  • she is hot

  • she really starts rockin @1:43 i wonder if thats where the first metal guitarist got that motion from?

  • How cute and skilfull ! I would like to hear her in live.

  • The song is very beautiful.

  • iknow this song hehe very nice! you did it exactly right.

  • If you don't have the money but you have time, make one. I'm doing so right now, making a beautiful black walnut shamisen.

  • Making your own instruments is awesome. Shamisen seems to be one of easier instruments to make.

  • Nice.

  • It all depends on what you want for your money. You can get practical plastic based shamisen for quite cheap, as the materials are poor and produce a poor quality sound. A real entry shamisen would be made of Japanese quince wood, with animal skin for the body. The tuning pegs, bridge, and plectrum would be made of bone/tusk/shell. And the strings would be made of silk, in comparison to cheap models which would be nylon.

  • u can import them and they start at 400 dollars for an okay one

i remember looking on a site that had them when i first discovered this instrument, i still think its an amazing intrument

  • you shouldn't trust everything wiki has to littlelifeform cause after that it says on wiki that on the best shamisen sometimes you can see the cats nipples...which kinda makes it more than obvious that someone tampered with the article

  • I don't see what's the big deal, some people worship cows.

  • how much does a starter one cost?

  • $400 - $800

  • :O

    that's a lot of money!

  • not really...

  • Not really, when compared to other instruments. A good electric guitar can cost around the same price range, if not more. :P

  • @Ostplayer Youtube user fiddlefella has videos on how to build your own.

  • It's called a Bachi, it's a plectrum used to strike the strings. Hers is made of tortoiseshell and plastic.

  • you play beautifully...i love this! I've always wondering how much a shamisen cost? anyone know?

  • I don't know for sure, but I guess hers would be between $2000 and $4000. You can get an entry level one for about $400.

  • It's a very expensive hobby. Even after you get the Shamisen you have to worry about the skin's deterioration with time, you periodically needs to be replaced (-$500+).

Even when you start up, Tsugaru Bachi marketplaces jumped to $250+ these days for a standard low class one. The best thing is that bachi has to be replaced from play since it deteriorates from play.

For a good bridge that will help bring out your Shamisen skin ($50+), Silk Strings ($20+) that turn bad around 1 month or so.

  • Do you know where I could get a Shamisen that would work with U.S's climate?

It looks like a very intresting instrument and unique. Much different from the drums which I do play.

If you could message me with info, That'd be great.

  • aligato XD

  • Sugoi ^_^

  • Marry me plx *.* Just kidding of course :P Very talented, very cute and just awesome! ^^ Greetings from Poland :)

  • great

  • wow, she's really great!!!

I wish I could play Shamisen... *sad*

  • hai! me too^^

    its amazing!!

  • される井戸!

  • OMG o(^^o)(o^^)o わくわく

  • Needs some distortion and some reverb, then she'd be rockin'.

  • woah, she sounds amazing!!

  • how much are they / where can i get one in america ( west coast )?

because guitar center definitly doesnt have these haha

  • they're expensive. I've got a "beginners" one made from Karin (quince) wood which cost about $800. My teacher is onto me to get something in the $3000 - $5000 range. A harder darker wood called Koki. (not sure what that is in English - Some kind of rain forest hardwood I guess. I'm in no hurry. I keep telling him: "Ishi no ue ni mo san nen."

  • Actually, that's a thing with the buyers of Shamisens in America.

They don't want to spend more than $200 USD but they want a either a Tsugaru or some kind of Koki concert level.

And for some other reason, they have been reading too much on online and have the weird idea that Ayasugi & Gold Hoso Saos are the things that make it concert level.

I tried to unload a koki Tsugaru Shamisen on eBay for $600 and all complained that its too much. They should listen to you about the pricing. LoL

  • People are always surprised when I tell them about the price range of shamisen. Apparently, they think it's about the same as some $30 spanish guitar you can pick up at a depato. ;-)

  • Well, I can't deny that I have to help myself to cheap crappy shamisen stuff most of the time, I simply don't have the money nor the resources. I'll be in Tokyo next month, and I've been saving up. So I'm going to get a lot of the good stuff!

  • A bachi I would never buy second hand. I usually get my strings from Chords Canada. My teacher has a sweet spot on Hokkaido for skinning the shamisen, $300 and it's almost the same climate as Holland, so it's not too tight or too loose.

  • what hokkaido same climate as Holland??? im understanding wrong right?

  • Technically speaking, in terms of humidity. Of course, the temperatures on Hokkaido are way below those of Holland. But if you skin your shamisen in, for instance, Tokyo or Osaka, and play it in Holland, it will rip in no time.

  • oooh u mean like that, serious? geez... does something like plastic shamisen exist? xD that would be something for me

  • If you want a plastic shamisen you have to go to a Japanese arcade hall! :-o

  • Wow, I wish I have the time to go Tokyo myself to get some supplies.

Don't go to Shamisen Katoh, their prices are at least above market prices. I done business with them a few times, I'm not really impressed. Sure Kenji can stretch his skin pretty good, but its because he always stretch them with the highest tension. Usually you get to pick at other stores. If you want the original Tsugaru sound (and your skins to last longer), I wouldn't go with him.

  • i want to learn to play that so bad but durff got to have money to buy one now dont we lol

  • A Tsugaru-jamisen type?

  • I would marry a girl who has a smile like hers.

  • O_o

  • how long have you been playing?

  • WOW amazing! I want one so I can play it..or at least..try to. haha. it looks hard to do..which I'm positive it is. and I"m used to instruments with..frets. haha.
