Although I am a Michigan fan (and alumni), I've always watched this rivalry closely. I preferred FSU and was glad to see them win this game. This was after the 28 point comeback to tie and I was glad they won the overtime battle if you will.

UF constantly has a high SOS ranking, every year we go through a tough SEC schedule, play FSU, play in a SEC title game, and then end the season by usually beating a top 5 team in whatever bowl we are in. FSU had great teams in the 90's, played really good competetion too, but to say UF plays weak teams is not true. SEC is stronger than the ACC.
Urban Meyer will avoid scheduling good competition if he can help it. The FSU thing is mere formality. Forget the SEC for a minute and look at the OOC and tell me Meyer schedules better than Bowden.
Also, when he was the coach at Utah awhile ago, Texas approached them for a home and home (because they're fun like that)...and he turned them down flat because he didn't want to risk a loss.
I'll give you that. UF does not normally schedule good OOC teams. But what is the use? The point to schedule good teams is to make you look better and have that get you into the best Bowl game possible (or even the National Title). But with Florida playing Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and FSU, there is no reason to even make your schedule harder. I do wish UF would play some harder OOC games, but its obviously not something that has to happen of UF to get in the National Championship Game.

This game was nicknamed "5th quarter in the french quarter", after FSU put a wippin on Florida when FSU was down by 28 with 11:48 to go in the forth. FSU tied that game, then went to this one to beat them. That was a great year in FSU football.

31 of Bowden's claimed wins come from Howard, which is not even a D1 school. Correct me if I'm wrong but are you saying Florida doesn't play top teams? UF constantly has a high SOS ranking, every year we go through a tough SEC schedule, play FSU, play in a SEC title game, and then end the season by usually beating a top 5 team in whatever bowl we are in. FSU had great teams in the 90's, played really good competetion too, but to say UF plays weak teams is not true. SEC is stronger than the ACC.

Urban Meyer will avoid scheduling good competition if he can help it. The FSU thing is mere formality. Forget the SEC for a minute and look at the OOC and tell me Meyer schedules better than Bowden.
Also, when he was the coach at Utah awhile ago, Texas approached them for a home and home (because they're fun like that)...and he turned them down flat because he didn't want to risk a loss.

I'll give you that. UF does not normally schedule good OOC teams. But what is the use? The point to schedule good teams is to make you look better and have that get you into the best Bowl game possible (or even the National Title). But with Florida playing Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Georgia, and FSU, there is no reason to even make your schedule harder. I do wish UF would play some harder OOC games, but its obviously not something that has to happen of UF to get in the National Championship Game.

Yeah it's not the SEC, we realize that. But we're one of the few teams that will schedule a major, highly risky make-or-break game every year...and we won't play them at neutral sites.
